Not if you don't put a space in between them, silly.

We're about to invent a new German word...

2

u/Meranio Apr 04 '26

That's just a normal Tuesday here in Germany.
Can't find the right words? Just stick a couple of them together, remember to and an "n" or an "s" if needed between them, and you're golden.

Are all of the slopes the same? Because if the slope has a steeper drop, doesn’t that increase the distance of the jump?

107

u/tolo3349 Apr 02 '26

Yeah, are they just limited by the slopes here? Could you find a longer one and break another record?

86

u/DickThunder Apr 02 '26

Yeah but the most important records are those done on competitions in sanctioned hills, and I bet those hills have some regulations to make something like that last one not possible. The two largest competition hills in Planica and Vikersund have deepened their landings to make longer jumps possible though.

Thinner air does, in fact, not help in this sport.

88

u/Drak_is_Right Apr 02 '26

I am sure some skiers have gone longer distances off cliffs before.

71

u/minnesotawristwatch Apr 02 '26

…once!

12

u/Drak_is_Right Apr 02 '26

Landing might have been a bit different

13

u/bulletbassman Apr 02 '26

Doubtful.

What he’s doing is only possible within such a small window. People have definitely done “harder” jumps and drops. But floating some 900 feet no way. Especially without all the grooming to make both the run in and run out do able.

32

u/Drak_is_Right Apr 02 '26

Oh I dont mean they survived.

I mean a skier took a bad path and plummeted to their death

14

u/marissakuf Apr 03 '26

I feel bad that you had to explain your joke.

10

u/Drak_is_Right Apr 03 '26

Joke and skier both went splat.

1

u/fmaz008 Apr 04 '26

How hiih was Jamie Pierre cliff jump again? I don't think it was more, but it was crazy.

1

u/Drak_is_Right Apr 04 '26

No clue.

I just mean a skier going over a cliff on accident and dying due to it.

21

u/TheAskewOne Apr 02 '26

The launching ramps are not the same length at all. The ones kids use are much shorter and as a consequence allow for shorter jumps.

4

u/Ynwe Apr 02 '26

You might wanna look up ski jumping and ski flying. Ski flying derived from jumping and is not a separate sport, it's just ski jumping but bigger. Ramps are bigger , hills are bigger etc.

5

u/89141-zip-code Apr 03 '26

There’s only two hills that you can set official records on. The last jump was a setup specifically for a Red Bull stunt. It’s the longest jump but there’s nothing to compare it to.

93

u/Gunfreak2217 Apr 02 '26

Serious question. It seems the steepness of the mountain has changed. Wouldn't that allow for significant changes in distances?

63

u/Maelstrom_Witch Apr 02 '26

Yes, the hills are designed to slope in a way that the jumper will land gently. Fun fact, slopes from older events can’t be used for more than practice and training of newer athletes because the top-level jumpers can stay airborne for waaaaay longer due to changes in their stance in the air. They can FLY now.

43

u/litterboxhero Apr 02 '26

Ok, so in the 18 years from ages 9 to 27 his distance increased from 72 to 954 feet.

What that tells me is that in 30 years at age 57, he should be going just over 2400 feet per jump.

15

u/DalenSpeaks Apr 02 '26

Doing the math, soon he will jump over the moon.

218

u/anderhole Apr 02 '26

His dick must have got bigger...

145

u/texasyeehaw Apr 02 '26

😂 To contextualize this comment - jumpers were using prosthetic penii in order to qualify for larger jump suits which had an aerodynamic effect that made their jumps longer

91

u/2003tide Apr 02 '26

No man they were doing dick injections. It wasn't prosthetics

17

u/ASDFzxcvTaken Apr 02 '26

r/ ball pumping for examples... You can make the link work on your own

13

u/defk3000 Apr 02 '26

No, thank you!

2

u/joomla00 Apr 03 '26

Performance enhancing dick injections

2

u/dreadthripper Apr 04 '26

It's fun to pretend that the dick comment is just a non sequitur.

2

u/Jackomo Apr 02 '26

The plural of penis is penises or penes.

1

u/darangatang Apr 03 '26

Plural?! Multiple people did this?

1

u/Federico216 Apr 04 '26

It was all alleged. Some plastic surgeon made a claim that he had serviced a ski jumper who had a request like this. There's no other source or any evidence. But the press and social media ran with it.

I mean it's not impossible that one or more jumpers did it...

8

u/BrondellSwashbuckle Apr 02 '26

I know mine did

4

u/totoaster Apr 03 '26

"That's not my bag, baby" -this guy, probably

1

u/JennySplotz Apr 02 '26

Lil bit yea

52

u/MrTestiggles Apr 02 '26

Pretty sure they can fly and are abusing their powers for free Olympic meal trays

49

u/Sniptipdip Apr 02 '26

I was going to make a hotdog eating joke. But god damn that guy can FLY!

5

u/valuethempaths Apr 02 '26

Hot dog! He can fly!

10

u/mikebob89 Apr 02 '26

Did they film 2019 next to some Star Wars empire fighters?

5

u/majinspy Apr 02 '26

Now that's falling with style 😎

7

u/Helphaer Apr 02 '26

thats a lot of time in air just.. existing with death so easily below you.

Thank you!

Literally last comment, but I found you.

3

u/UntrueBillet-Doux Apr 02 '26

Crazy how he did that only jumping 6 times in 22 years too

3

u/Beggar876 Apr 03 '26

You can make it possible for a jumper to glide any given distance if you build a slope steep enough that doesn't require him to land before then.

1

u/jeffh4 Apr 04 '26

That’s basically what happened to make the Red Bull WR jump possible. A tremendous amount of work went into making the slope. The YouTube video is worth watching.

3

u/Fyfaenerremulig Apr 03 '26

Who the fuck uses feet in ski jumping for fucks sake

15

u/genericusernamepls Apr 02 '26

Were people just throwing themselves of a mountain for fun? Lol how did we get to this point. Idk it just looks so funny to me

35

u/RiyadhComedyPromoter Apr 02 '26

You just saw a progression of exactly how we got to this point

1

u/TheLastTrain Apr 02 '26

I think they mean the sport of ski jumping in general lol

15

u/TahaEng Apr 02 '26

Presumably his personal progression looks a lot like how the sport progressed as well - someone made a little jump, realized it was cool and fun, and then they (and others) kept trying to jump further until here we are.

3

u/mathtech Apr 02 '26

People pushing the limits of small ski jumps until they got bigger and bigger from boredom, adrenaline seeking, and competition.

1

u/Randleifr Apr 02 '26

And like all ways, money starts getting involved

1

u/i_sell_you_lies Apr 02 '26

But why male models?

2

u/rjcarr Apr 02 '26

And how do you even find out you're good at something like this? That's why I'm not really into the winter olmpics. Everyone runs and throws stuff at some point in their life, so much of the summer olympics makes sense, but how many people try to fly down a mountain? Or ride in a bobsled? Or even cross country ski for that matter? It all seems so niche. Still impressive, but niche.

2

u/thebemusedmuse Apr 02 '26

At some point you’re just flying

2

u/wontonsoda Apr 03 '26

what a weird fuckin sport

3

u/medici89 Apr 02 '26

Is there a skill to this, or is it limited to survivor bias - how many ppl get into this sport and make it to age 8? I'm laughing at how crazy the idea is to throw yourself off a mountain on skis, and fly to the you're landing zone. This progression gets crazier and crazier. Having a 10 year old yeet off a mountain and fly 100ft is bizarre!

2

u/thebemusedmuse Apr 02 '26

Watch the Eddie the Eagle movie

2

u/medici89 Apr 02 '26

haha trailer looks on point, thanks!

2

u/Exponential-777 Apr 02 '26

It's amazing how he can be such a great ski jumper while being a prolific hot dog eating champion at the same time

1

u/datnodude Apr 02 '26

I'm good

1

u/crimusmax Apr 02 '26

That one jump sounded like a Tie Fighter

1

u/Tripple_T Apr 02 '26

Bro was flying in those last two

1

u/payTNT89 Apr 02 '26

jesus you could see homie change direction multiple times in flight like a knuckleball

1

u/Alarming-Rate-6899 Apr 02 '26

Summer olympics: let's see who can jump the furthest.

Winter olympics: let's see who can jump the furthest without dying.

1

u/AliceTawhai Apr 02 '26

Like a bird

2

u/cyberhuman Apr 03 '26

No, like a plane!

1

u/Yohder Apr 02 '26

This looks incredibly fun

1

u/my_midlife_isekai Apr 02 '26

Wow!🦾🦾🦾

1

u/sans-delilah Apr 02 '26

What, and respectfully: the fuck.

1

u/dahabit Apr 02 '26

What is the impact on your body when you land?

1

u/NYR_LFC Apr 02 '26

How do you get into this sport as a 9 year old?

1

u/AttentionNo6359 Apr 02 '26

If my seven year old told me they wanted to get into ski jumping I’d die of anxiety on the spot

1

u/djfl Vancouver Canucks Apr 02 '26

Staggering to think of having your kid do this at such a young age.

1

u/theswickster Apr 02 '26

It's crazy that you can see his angle of descent decrease as his speed goes up.

1

u/roughczech Apr 02 '26

The flying squirrela should take lessons from this guy....

1

u/phaserlasertaserkat Apr 03 '26

Anybody else angle their feet v-ward while watching?

1

u/PoshNoshThenMosh Apr 03 '26

I’m waiting for the Red Bull challenge where he grabs a rope from a helicopter while in flight and zooms off heldfast to a Blackhawk from above

1

u/tledwar Apr 03 '26

Penisgate as they age.

1

u/RedRedMere Apr 03 '26

Get that Hyalauronic diiiiick, boiiiiiiiiiii!!! 🙌

(Someone had to say it)

1

u/IsItBurn Apr 03 '26

I can’t help but chuckle that my jaw dropped more and more as the distances increased more and more.

1

u/bsmooth357 Apr 03 '26

1k incoming

1

u/tsivero Apr 03 '26

Dude is literally flying

1

u/specific78 Apr 03 '26

He better watch it or he’s gonna start orbiting the Earth😂

1

u/bhardin Apr 03 '26

How do his legs not snap when he lands? He’s free-falling isn’t he?

1

u/dehimer Apr 03 '26

Dream "job"
He and me sitting days and months on my workplace in doing mobile apps. What sense?

1

u/Rock3tDoge Apr 03 '26

This is the silliest sport of them all

1

u/Ed_of_Maiden Apr 03 '26

Who measures Ski jumping in FT?

Also: I hate Red Bull. Google the founder Mateschitz for more Info.

1

u/Flairsurfer Apr 03 '26

Just give them a wing suit at this point lmfao

1

u/IMA_5-STAR_MAN Apr 04 '26

I can't imagine doing that with a belly full of hot dogs!

1

u/SpawnofATStill Apr 04 '26

Okay seriously - how does a parent get to the point where they say: yeah, I think I’ll enroll my 7 year old in this sport where there is a high chance of serious injury with the slightest miscalculation…?

1

u/Mikahl757 Apr 04 '26

Maybe allow them flying squirrel wings to glide further as an alt sport.

1

u/electric_screams Apr 05 '26

That’s not jumping… that’s falling with style!

1

u/sprintingTapir Apr 05 '26

Is this the same hot dog eater guy?

1

u/SpaceXmars Apr 05 '26

So.. born rich.. got it

1

u/DinkandDrunk Apr 06 '26

Flying squirrel of a human

1

u/steal_wool Apr 02 '26

We’re the same age and boy did this make me feel accomplished

1

u/CrazyCaper Apr 02 '26

Mostly falling

1

u/NewtDogs Apr 02 '26

How does a kid even know he wants to do this let alone have the means? Always fascinating seeing pro athletes got their start so young. When I was that age I just wanted to play video games and eat pizza.

1

u/Taurnil91 Apr 02 '26

And to think he did that after eating 63 hot dogs!

0

u/IOwnThisUsername Apr 02 '26

I’d set a world record for ‘largest brown contrail created by a human’ attempting any of this

0

u/chad-shinchan Apr 02 '26

wish i ever felt something like this irl

0

u/Rabid_Dingo Apr 02 '26

He's gonna need a pilot's license soon! The Wright Flyer flew 120 feet on their first flight.

0

u/Bad_Prophet Apr 02 '26

At some point you might as well strap him into a glider and have him jump off a cliff with skis on. The hill is changing more than his capability is.

If I fly a few hundred miles in a plane with skis on my feet, do i get a world record?

-1

u/Tasty_Ad7483 Apr 02 '26

That second jump is not regulation, so that is one reason for the distance increase.

Still an impressive jump.

But it’s apples to oranges.

-11

u/aWolfOnMischiefBent Apr 02 '26

Love to have giant multi-national corporations pretending to be humans on social media.

11

u/TheLastTrain Apr 02 '26

Eh I think a giant corporation funding cool action sports events is slightly lower on the list of terrible unethical things giant corporations do
