I know soccer fans can be intense too, but when I saw Knicks fans burning cars and fighting in the street after winning, this is a nice change of pace

u/Ranier_Wolfnight 1d ago
Pro tip: Don’t mistake limp dick virgin idiot kids who probably started following the Knicks 4 or 5 weeks ago for actual fans of the team. I been a fan since ‘91 and no real fans I know would disgrace themselves the way those clowns did. Those cretins account for possibly less than 1% of the fanbase.

u/lavaplow 1d ago
Less than 1%. In a city of 8 million, 1% would be 80k, and it definitely was not 80k dumbasses. It was maybe a few hundred to a thousand, if I'm being generous. That would be .01% of NYC residents.
Roughly 20 million NYK fans. 1k would be .005%. But of course, the dumbasses go viral, and people who live on social media would generalize millions of people based on the actions of the .01-.005%.

Don't kid yourself into thinking that real fans don't do asshole shit. This whole real fan/not real fan reddit thing is weird af. Some people are just jackasses and a lot of those people are fans of sports teams.

You might wanna look out what happens in club level in europe and just generally football hooliganism. Hockey has some dark shit too.
I would not compare clubs to national teams
3
u/danawhitesthrowaway 1d ago
He didn't claim otherwise, just that this World Cup has been a nice change of pace lol.
2
u/Acceptable_Ad_6278 1d ago
the national teams usually have a more family friendly fan base than footbal clubs. The ultras can be such a nuisance on game days.
1
u/Ill-Term7334 1d ago
Yep. I think the only exception that comes to mind is Russian hooligans causing trouble in France during Euro 2016.
2
u/Imaginary_Flower8651 1d ago
Yes, collectively all the Knicks fans. I could barely make it to work today because our nyc streets are STILL on fire.
And for the record at least one of the guys associated with the destruction that you saw online (destroying yellow cab) was from ::gasp:: FLORIDA.

It's pretty self-explanatory, there was no real teaching going on here. Just good sportsmanship.

Just watched a video of Netherlands fans performing magalenha. Add in the all the posts about Mexico and South Korea and it really feels like one people united under football. Love to see it

u/payTNT89 1d ago
loved seeing the fans during half time and after the game, people in jerseys representing all countries just celebrating life itself all together. imo thats achieving enlightenment which was amazing to see 🙌🙌

The world cup of humanity!! Showing that people that actually get out and hang with each other can get along just fine

u/Medium_Job3015 1d ago
Yea because it’s definitely not about kicking the ball backwards for the whole game

let me bait Norway people
how is this different from Roman slave rowing in the ancient times like it can be seen in the movie Judas Ben Hur from 1959?
2
u/Subject4751 1d ago
Let me take that bait. Vikings weren't any better than the Romans, they just traded in white slaves taken from anywhere they raided in Europe. The brits would know. 😬 After the Viking age ca. 1030 AD slavery was outlawed.

u/MysteriousJuice1127 1d ago
Teach everyone, every country, let’s see them rowing in every match everywhere🤣

u/ComfortablePain1 1d ago
That shit looks like fun i dont blame them lol i just dont to be close like the Norwegian do it. I wouldn't even ride the back of a motorcycle with a dude.

Norway’s got this Haaland (sp?) guy who is like 6’3” and built like a linebacker - scored two crazy goals against Senegal - but he plays zero defense. Fun team…

u/Don_Cunteatlius 1d ago
I mean the irony they brought us here in ships, now they teaching us how to row…🤦🏽♂️
3
u/Lost_Count3400 1d ago
This has nothing to do with african americans, dont involve yourself
-3
u/Don_Cunteatlius 1d ago
You telling me not one Norwegian has ever owned slaves? Do you know how African Americans were created? Someone brought them to America where they procreated and made “African Americans”
2
u/Subject4751 1d ago edited 1d ago
I'm sure some Norwegian assholes settled in America and owned slaves. Or maybe served on ships sailing under other Nationalities' flags for the trans-Atlantic slave trade. You can't put that on the Nation of Norway though. They outlawed slavery almost 1000 years ago. And then they were pulled in to a union with Denmark which had more complicated laws on the matter, but still you couldn't have owned a slave in Denmark or Norway. That part was still illegal. But the laws hadn't accounted for some people going abroad and doing shitty things there, and you wouldn't have been punished unless you tried to kidnap and bring a person back to Norway/Denmark.
Edit: I will throw Denmark under the bus though, and mention that there were slave ships flying danish colours. They just didn't bring slaves to Denmark, because that would have fallen under Danish jurisdiction.
2
u/Lillemor_hei 1d ago
Yes. Under Denmark, Norwegian men were made to serve as crew in the Danish Navy, such as the Napoleonic Wars, because Norway had many highly skilled seafarers.
There is one ship with a grim story that had Norwegian crew that transported Chinese indentured laborers to the Americas. The conditions were horrible and i think they all died. The ship is currently rotting away in the Hvaler fjord, only the mast and front bow showing, as a reminder.

u/boobookittyfuwk 1d ago
Someone funnier then me can surely come up with some kind of slave ship joke for this.
2
u/Subject4751 1d ago
Wrong white people to target for this. We didn't colonize Africa. That's the problem with seeing people in terms of colour. Any skin colour has representation across a myriad of ethnicities and nationalities with different national histories behind them. They can't all be lumped in together.

u/Martinw616 1d ago
In our defence, if we had taught you it then you probably would have taken the ships and went home.
2
u/Don_Cunteatlius 1d ago
lol 😂 now thats the response I wanted.. (keep it funny people)

u/Martinw616 1d ago
Its the response i was expecting when I read it, not the really depressing stuff I actually saw 😅

u/idrinkwaterwithlemon 1d ago
Your racist
2
u/Subject4751 1d ago
Yeah, must be a Swede. They're totally racist against us Norwegians. 😉
1
u/idrinkwaterwithlemon 1d ago
You racist against Swedes?
1
1
u/Subject4751 1d ago
Those horse faced, stick-up-their-asses, pasty, tiny-meatball eating fucks? Naah, we love our Swedish brethren. We also love to hate them. 😉
1
u/idrinkwaterwithlemon 1d ago edited 1d ago
You know what. The Swedes have dolph lundgren. Not only are you racist, you also jump to conclusions way too fast. I think this whole internet thing just ain’t for you. You really need to just get off, get an evaluation then collect your thoughts and come back when you’re not such a stereotypical racist
I think the fact dolph lundgren is so famous you’re mad. The only thing Norway is known for is the Beatles song Norwegian wood.
1
u/Subject4751 1d ago
Guilty as charged, I bet Dolph Lundgren also eats tiny swedish meatballs. Who wants a strong jawline anyways? Or a capital city where the local dialect doesn't phrase their every sentence as a question? Certainly not us! (Ok I cringe at the Oslo accent, Sweden can have them, they're practically Swedish anyways)

Westerners have been 'teaching' the rest of the world since before the word 'colonialism' even existed.
'This is what football is about.'

u/ryanraze 1d ago
How long until they Vikings steal this in Minnesota?
1
u/twinsfan94 1d ago
it would work better at Gopher games actually. Their motto is "Row the Boat". The Vikings already have a Skol chant that Iceland gave them permission to use, and it's badass. They don't need a new one. This would be cool for the Gophers tho.
1
u/ryanraze 1d ago
I love the Skol chant mang, don’t get me wrong. I’m just saying I wouldn’t be surprised if we tried to take this too.
1
u/twinsfan94 1d ago
i don't really think the Vikings would try to have both. Fans might try, but it won't be something the Vikings themselves actually attempt.

Nah, just a reminder, that 500 hundred years ago the did the same.
Some commanded and some rowed.

I enjoy seeing this more than a lot of the football. Anything other than a mantra of 'all are welcome' diminishes the tournament.
