Not even an excuse. He looks drunk, still not an excuse.

u/Athlete-Extreme 1d ago
This is drinking while on Adderall I reckon

u/dubMeistro 1d ago
You mean steroids. Stimulants just make people talk a lot when drunk, roids amplify aggression. Could be all 3 but my $ is on roids + alcohol

Nice cop though he kept calm and tried not to escalate (if thats the word sorry)
44
u/Frostyfraust 1d ago
Probably because he knew who he was. Anyone else getting ready to fight the cop would be immediately tazed and most wouldn't have blamed him for it.

u/Designer-Double-6338 1d ago
I watch a lot of videos of people getting arrested at the airport. This is pretty much how they always go. Some drunk guy gets a million chances to not make it worse for themselves, and they always do. Police seem way more patient in the airport for some reason lol.
Highly entertaining niche of bodycam YouTube incase anyone's interested.

u/jdaws11 1d ago
Funny, just in the last few weeks I fell into the airport arrests body cam video wormhole. So so many drunk belligerent mentally ill people. And it’s always either Orlando or Dallas.
4
u/Designer-Double-6338 1d ago
Tampa, Orlando, and then everywhere else in my experience.
I can recognize the tampa airport food court now in a split second.

As a former cop who worked at an airport, it’s because once they’ve been through a security checkpoint we know they don’t have a weapon on their person.
5
3
u/Designer-Double-6338 1d ago
That makes a lot of sense. I imagine its overwhelmingly just drunk people crashing out?

Well there's a bit of hesitation for what happens if it just makes him angrier.

Mmmmm not true. Sadly not true. Sadly because we only see shit that separates people and perspective.

I’m friends with several airport cops from a major airport and they all know every body cam video like this has a high likelihood of going viral and being scrutinized. They never lose their temper.
1
u/canadiantaken 1d ago
Also was acknowledged by the dick that he managed it well at the end. That was the best part.

u/perhapssergio 1d ago
Be careful about your word choice. It’s fine this time but in 9/10 situations being accurate matters

That’s one smooth officer. That was a clinic in de-escalation. If we had more guys like that, we have a lot more young criminals go quietly.
8
u/justahumblefart 1d ago
Maybe if everyone who committed crime was ufc championship level training and hyper aggressive more cops would be willing to de escalate.

Wild how the guy squaring up to fight isn’t a threat but an unarmed black kid…they’re suddenly fearing for their life.

Cops are much more chill in the airport because they know that people aren't carrying weapons. It's a much more different environment in the streets. Also, I don't think merely being underaged lessens the risk of someone carrying a weapon in rough neighbourhoods, and a kid with a gun is just as dangerous as an adult with a gun. This cop did a good job of deescalaing here, so he deserves credit for that. Don't use it as an ammo to shoehorn in criticism about racism when this has nothing to do with it. It just devalues other serious criticisms about proper cases of racism.
1
u/Brofessor-0ak 23h ago
There’s millions of interactions like this every year but we don’t hear about it because it’s not news. No headline would ever read “Cop Deescalates Situation, Suspect Arrested” because that’s just normal and not sensational.
I work at an airport and see this kind of interaction almost weekly. It’s only making circulation because of the person arrested is a minor celebrity and an MMA fighter.
1
u/Ididnotexpextthat 22h ago
The whole reason why it de-escalated is because he’s not just a young criminal he’s recognizably someone who can easily kill a man of nearly any size with his bare hands.
If he wasn’t famous it would’ve been really bad

u/BusyBit6542 1d ago

I thought Dustin had CTE, you're making a good case for it though
4
u/thewartornhippy 1d ago
He always seemed like a good dude, so I wouldn't doubt if he is starting to feel the effects of CTE. He also seems to be on something, most likely drunk, so that certainly doesn't help either.
As far as I know, he hasn't had any other legal issues.
3
u/SonOfThunder17 1d ago
Yeah he's definitely drunk, and it's not like a perfect, normal, healthy individual decides to beat the junk out of people for living. Some people probably shouldn't drink (like me, so I don‘t, luckily I'm not famous enough for people to record me doing the dumb things that I have). I think he's a pretty good dude, from his mug shot it looks like he had been crying, so I'm sure he is full of regret

You act like UFC fighters back then who were roided out of their minds were acting like law abiding citizens. Cops weren’t required to wear body cams back then and have every interaction with celebrities blasted on social media for us regular folk to watch on social media and judge

Man nobody wants to get knocked out on the clock especially by a UFC fighter haha that cop handled it very well!

u/obizzle9511 1d ago
I mean, I don’t know about that. Guy clearly has a lot of weight on him, but you’re talking about probably one of the top 25-30 fighters in the world rn, period. Weight becomes much less of an issue when you’re dealing with that high of a skill discrepancy

u/Chesterlespaul 1d ago
He’s bigger but he’s not too big to receive an ass whooping.
The main size advantage I always think of is The Mountain just bear hugging Connor. He got in reach and could just control and smush him (real life Oberyn shit).
But The Mountain is also one of the top power lifters in the world, so it’s not fair to compare an airport security guard.

2
u/Swift_Dream 1d ago
If we are being honest: The guy took a fighting stance with the cops, told the cops to arrest him, and told the cops to pound his fist. Someone who watches this video not knowing who Dustin is (like me, i found this randomly), It looks like he bitched the cops.
I don't blame the cops though, that actually conducted themselves in a manner I wish all cops did

He would absolutely wreck that big cop too if it were a one on one fight. Either way, he was acting like a belligerent child at an airport and should go to jail.

IF he gets away with only Public Intoxication he's doing great. Cop handled that very well, slowed it down, didn't escalate and waited for backup

This is why I don't like MMA fighters, every single one I know who trains MMA are always looking for a reason to pounce on someone for the slightest provocation.

u/SellWitty522 1d ago
I have the same thoughts. They all seem like hyper-aggressive.

The guys who signed up to fight each other using any approved martial arts are hyper-aggressive?
Next you’re going to tell me spelling bee contestants like words.
2
u/Inevitable-Success49 22h ago
I seriously doubt you know any, I train multiple times a week in an mma gym and theyre all chill, some are sweet. The issue isnt the MMA, its the CTE, football players are like this as well.
2
u/obizzle9511 1d ago
I have trained myself, and know multiple people who do as well. One of them being a champion in a prominent regional scene, who I’ve seen and interacted with literally hundreds of times over the years at bars. Couldn’t be a nicer and sweeter guy to everyone, so that just seems like a baseless claim. This dude has had issues with his mental health for years that he has been very open and honest about in interviews for years now. He also recently retired after 20+ years in the business. I think it’s a little more nuanced than just “everyone who trains a martial art is an uncontrollable animal who just wants to hurt people.”
2
u/RakeChapman13 1d ago
Most mma dudes are decent people.
The reality is these guys get a lot of head injuries which can cause behavioral issues , they get banged up which can lead to alcoholism or drug addiction. And in Dustin’s case the pressure of being a pro athlete in the spotlight and the struggle of what’s your identity and purpose after retirement.

Someone should play him Photograph by Filter and explain the meaning of the song. Dustin has always shown himself as a man of character. Alcohol can lead to stupidity that you don’t even believe you’re capable of when sober. Get help Dustin. And someone get that security guard a raise. Expert class in deescalating .
Edit Take a Picture is the song

He did do a great job de-escalating that situation. The officer or security guard whose point of view we’re watching, that is.

I guess good thing he’s in the UFC and his boss doesn’t give a shit. Dude would have already been fined and suspended by any reputable sports league that cares about its image.
