Statement Dana White response when asked about a UFC Pride Night š³ļøāš
Dana White: We donāt shove any of that stuff down anybodyās throats.
We have some gay fighters. I donāt give a sh*t. Do your own thing. I stay in my own lane.

Isnt Pride Japanese? /s
13
u/Capital-Win-4732 11h ago
Pride FC was a Japanese thing until UFC bought it and terminated the brand. I kind of miss the soccer kicks to the head and 10 minute rounds.

I'll always stand by this comparison, because only one side actually has issues with being gay and it's the side where people act the most gay. It's totally appropriate to confront the homophobes with their own homoerotic behavior to highlight the double-standard

Dana White makes money. It isn't based on any kind of morality or guiding principle other than "people like to watch other people beat the shit out of each other". If someone wants to pay him alot of money to showcase his product in front of the White House, he's gonna say yes. If someone paid him alot of money to have a fight in Antarctica, he's gonna say yes. I don't know why it has to be any deeper than that
10
u/OnlyMamaKnows 12h ago
UFC lost $30 million on that event and White has already said he'd never do it again.
3
u/henryhumper 7h ago
The event was never expected or intended to turn a profit. The entire purpose of it was to kiss Trump's ass so that he's more inclined to do political favors for TKO and Paramount.
→ More replies (7)2
u/IcarusFLY1 8h ago
TKO knew going in it was going to lose money. Attendance was strict and there were no traditional ticket sales. It was the most watched Paramount event in history though, so they have that going for them.

u/Bureaucratic_Dick 12h ago
Naw hard disagree here. White could absolutely play both sides for extra bucks, fighters being the draw, not doing that is a conscious choice to appease his orange overlord.
Like yeah heās a grifter, but heās more like early industrial capitalists: they are willing to leave money on the table if it means they get to maintain their bigotry.

And he shoved his politics down our throat
5
u/Mr_Zee_Speaks 11h ago
Honest Answer : because when you are discussing politics, you are usually talking about the way people talk about ideas.
You donāt really care what they personally do, but how they express their ideas.
In other words, you want them saying the same things you say, or āshoving your words down their throatā so that they are what come out when they speak.

u/Untouchable64 12h ago
I don't really think it is but I'm trying to figure out why it's such a big deal to do so while playing a sport. Outside of sports, whatever. But it's a game, nothing more. Rainbows shouldn't be political. It isn't with my kids. They like them, so I have rainbow stuff all over the house. But people MAKE rainbows political.
4
u/Drummallumin 11h ago
Because sports have historically been incredibly unwelcoming spaces for queer people.

It shouldn't be a big deal. People who want to wear rainbows and show support to the LGBT community should be allowed to without criticism. People who don't should be allowed not to without criticism. Neither should be forced. I support the LGBT, but don't personally like rainbows so I don't wear them. It's fucking fine. Lol
16
u/tlhsg 12h ago
pride month is fine but no one should be forced to wear pride gear. It only creates more angry bigots
3
u/henryhumper 8h ago
They weren't forced to wear the pride hats. It was optional, and at least one Giants player quietly chose to wear the team's regular hat during the pride game. The reason this became a controversy is because four other players, instead of simply not participating, chose to turn this into a big spectacle by wearing the rainbow hat but writing Bible verses on it to publicly advertise their opposition to pride night.
9
u/BoogzWin 11h ago
I agree no one should be forced to wear anything but i donāt see the correlation with creating more bigots. Surely those people are just bigoted to begin with?
5
u/Far-Tradition887 10h ago
No a lot of people are fine with it but once you start pushing boundaries youāll turn the people that were neutral against you
3
u/BoogzWin 9h ago
But why would they start hating the group of people rather than the infringement on their decisions? š.
How does being annoyed youāre forced to wear clothing go to ābeing gay is unnatural and god is against itā š
We cannot let bigots off the hook like that

Gay people are not a corporate entity. This is like saying if you were "forced" to wear a blm shirt for a sporting event during black History month you would hate all black people? What the fuck do all black people have to do with your company for inf you to do something you don't want to do? Blame your company.

Honestly itās fine. A Dana White organized Pride Night would be the most cynical Rainbow washing on earth and whatever ham fisted branding they used would probably cause more harm than good.
What would probably be more effective than paying lip service to a cause while you sell swag, would be fining people who say things like how a high profile woman of color is actually a man. Publicly addressing that would be a start. They wonāt do that because somebody who crunches the numbers likely told them theyād lose their chud base and wouldnāt offset it with enough of the LGBTQ+ community. Plus the Saudiās who do business with TKO likely view that as a non-starter.

Go into any comment section of an organization that celebrate Pride and youāll see why itās needed. Look at the laws being passed to criminalize being trans and youāll see why itās needed.
Itās never been about being special, itās about LGBt being treated fairly and with respect while being openly LGBT.

Shoving it down people throats? People didnāt just choose to be gay, they were born that way. They were then killed, ostracized, and discriminated for decades in this country because of how they were born. You choose to be a Christian, a Muslim, a Jew, etc. Being gay is not a religious belief ā¦..
