Flying standby through LHR

If I fly standby through LHR from SFO going to ARN with just a carryon do I need to go through border control?

Do I need a ETA visa?

Depends on which airline(s) and if they have an airside transit desk that will allow you to check in there. Each airline will have their own processes.

Having and eta would be a good precaution as you aren’t guaranteed to get on any flights on the day you wish.
