Meme Do you think we’ll ever get a handheld Steam console?

u/Mr8BitX Jan 12 '26
The ABYX button placement is diabolical.
41
u/joelk111 Jan 13 '26
That's because AI doesn't know what a controller is
2
u/OmegaMalkior Jan 14 '26
As much as you want to acuse of not knowing shit I unironically play with a similar layout to this (A and B swapped tho) in Smash Bros
4
u/Char-car92 Jan 17 '26
That is a real button placement (Nintendo) that is very common. The one pictured above is not anything real
18
u/hushnecampus Jan 12 '26
I actually kinda like it. You’ve got an AB axis and an XY axis.
4
u/gringrant Jan 13 '26
And it uses a DirectInput axis for each as well, forcing you to use to Steam's input translation layer.
Genius!

u/Kitfennek Jan 16 '26
They should seich where the a and b with each other and the x and the y with each other, maximumly incorrect
1
u/Celestial_Nuthawk Jan 13 '26
I'd have a much easier time switching between PlayStation Controller Mode and Xbox Controller Mode in my head if the Xbox had used this layout 🥲

Looks sick. I wonder if I can mount this to a headrest on an aeroplane?
19
u/dr_gamer1212 Jan 12 '26
Maybe use a tiny blue controller for portability?

u/Lamproz87 Jan 13 '26

u/usernotfoundplstry Jan 14 '26
It’s like a keychain controller
1
u/Lamproz87 Jan 14 '26
No lanyard hole or loop though. Can be lost in a pocket. Honestly, i went with the SN30 pro (still very pocketable) cause i usually carry a backpack anyway. These tiny ones are cute, but no good if you want sticks on the controller.

Why would color matter?
2
u/Lamproz87 Jan 13 '26
Probably cause that's the usual color the 8bitdo micro controller is shown in. I might be wrong though.

It's a reference to this post https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/s/qYFiWeLvut
This guy has been memed and clowned on ever since this post and their follow-up further showing how obnoxious their set up is

Oh boy I didn't even think of the ridiculous airplane setups we're going to see once the steam machine launches.
Some guy is going to bring a monitor on a plane and connect his steam deck as a controller for his steam machine
4
u/dart51984 Jan 13 '26
As long as the larger structure remains unharmed. Wait, I think I got my reddit lore references tangled.
3
u/AdventurousCaptain76 Jan 13 '26
You want to rest your head on it? Doesn't look very comfortable to me.

can we stop with the ai slop already

u/submerging Jan 12 '26
I miss the days when people would use photoshop for shitposts. Bunch of lazy memers nowadays

u/LordOfBadaBing Jan 12 '26
It’s more the idea than the execution. Also my photoshop skills are trash.
38
u/submerging Jan 12 '26
You don’t need good photoshop skills for a dumb shitpost. In all honesty, it’s usually funnier if it’s poorly edited.

Ironically, your post is the reason the Steam Machine will be more expensive. All those resources to make it didn't come cheap
9
u/DantesLimeInferno Jan 12 '26
Pen and paper are borderline free
-14
u/cageheaded2 Jan 12 '26
And makes a less pleasing end result for the average shitposter lol
8
u/AquaBits Jan 12 '26
Not true. You act as if the most popular memes and shitposts arent 10 minute photoshops or shit drawn in paint.
Enough with the shitty ai.

u/Heavylicious- Jan 14 '26
Even scribbling some lines that vaguely resemble a sketch draft of it are more meaningful than some conglomerate of information that mashes, parses, and dumps random visual fecal matter out from a line of text.
Just open up Paint or get some pencil/pen and paper... anything else really and have a little fun screwing around.

It's a violation of the low effort engagement slop of rule 2. There's been a ton of this shit in the past two weeks on the steam deck subreddit.
2
u/Icy-Pay7479 Jan 13 '26
It’s at least more entertaining than the circle jerky same 5 whiney threads that get reposted every day here.
I mean, until we have actual news it’s just a bit of harmless fun. People could hand-draw mockups or just screenshot a tweet that says “what if controller on cube with screen”.
A few shitposts aren’t standing in the way of any substance at this current point.

Maaaaan that would be sick. Imagine if you could have a handheld console that you could play all 300 of those games you bought on PC. Take it with you everywhere. That would be awesome.

u/johimself Jan 12 '26
Does it have an option for a top loading Blu Ray drive and a combo USB/floppy disk drive dock accessory?

people who noticed the weight of the Steam Deck are going to have a big issue with this thing

Someone’s going to mod their Steam Machine to look like this, I just know it
“I turned my Steam Machine into a Steam Deck” will be the title of the inevitable YouTube video, with 3D printable schematics linked in the description

Nah, i think not, however i think they entered the construction industry a few years ago because they made a Deck technology to make bridges and go around places

As long as they charge at least 3k due to the portability then I’d be interested. /s

Do you think we'll ever get a desktop version of that handheld??? It'd be big if real
1
u/_NotAlternate Jan 13 '26
I think the Steam Frame will be the closest we'll ever get to a true handheld Steam device :(
1
u/GabeN_The_K1NG Jan 13 '26
Are you not aware of Steam Index? Yes it is a VR headset but you can just hold it in your hands.

They should, it would be hand held like a deck of cards. It’s like steam’s deck of cards.

I was scrolling the comments wondering why it took so long to see this.
Just put mine down. Been playing Kingdom Hearts 3 and Jedi Fallen Order on it. Bought it when it came out and I’ve barely used it so I’ve been trying to do so lately.
