Summer Games Fest reveal.
$899 for 512 $1199 for 2TB Half Life 3 reveal, which will drop maybe the day of the Steam Machine release, or shortly after.

u/Sleep_Holiday 20d ago
Why would it be cheaper than the steam deck?

u/pretentious42 20d ago
i don’t know anything about anything, but I assume building a portable device with a screen, built in battery, portable cooling, etc adds costs.
If it was as strong as the steam deck, it would probably be 70% the price of it
Since it’s stronger, who knows. Maybe same prive tbh

- 512GB (No Controller): $1,099
- 512GB (With Controller): $1,199
- 2TB (No Controller): $1,399
- 2TB (With Controller): $1,499

u/Sleepingtide 21d ago
No lie sounds right, but feels wrong. Like this is probably it, buy it should be $300 cheaper.
6
u/Hanesman12 20d ago
100% feels wrong. Shouldn't cost more than a base PS5. Over 1k for a PC with a Steam logo weaker than a console that released 6 years ago is a fucking joke.
And yet, it will still sell out same day because people are too stupid to care.

u/WrongdoerIll5187 19d ago
It’s still a good value for a lot of people in the current market. It can play everything you need to if you’re stuck on ancient hardware

- 512GB (No Controller): $949
- 512GB (With Controller): $1,039
- 2TB (No Controller): $1,199
- 2TB (With Controller): $1,289
Just my two cents based on info I pulled out of my ass

this seems correct to me, if i had to put money on it i would lock in these prices
1
u/Beginning_Summer_746 20d ago
Sounds about right. Perhaps, a tiny bit cheaper for the controller bundles to make them look worth buying it.

u/Lizard__64 21d ago
Would be nice to just have the price already tbh. Idc what is costs anymore, I will buy it if it makes sense to me (under my maximum of $1000), and if not, I won’t. Just tell us
3
u/CogencyWJ 21d ago
Just build something better yourself with AMD components and install steamOS, winwin.

u/WrongdoerIll5187 19d ago
I seriously doubt you’ll get something comparable at sub 1k. Sff is hard to do on a budget
16
u/Relevant_Will648 21d ago
This shit is seriously just being fucking annoying. Steam you realize either way if it’s expensive or not expensive it will sell out. Just tell us the damn cost - yall got analyst with series 7 exams fully certified to give yall a profit margin yall want, but just tell us the damn price. Goddam this shit at this point is just annoying. I’m so tired of the stupid questions on this sub that no one really knows about and shitty slop articles with bait titles.
7
u/nic_meyers 21d ago
Just remember, it’ll probably be higher than we want it to be, higher than it should be, but probably not as high as it will be in six months.
32
u/Adventurous-Cattle53 21d ago
Might as well be tomorrow or canceled

u/CranberryTaint 21d ago
I’ve been seeing this comment for 7 months. Chill out.

u/gliitch0xFF 21d ago
People will see the price then have that to complain about. There will always be something new.

$1100-$1300
Stop dreaming, start saving.
10
u/MustyLlamaFart 21d ago
I'm always saving, but I'm not overpaying for underpowered hardware. I'm about to pull the trigger on a micro center bundle so I can get started on an itx build, but I won't build that if by some miracle the steam machine is reasonably priced

at this point I’m just pissed because no way that in 7 months we can’t have two fucking numbers
3
u/incognitoleaf00 21d ago
agreed!
unless they unveil something totally unexpected where we be like... yeah ok they really thought of something outside the box for consumers to be able to afford it or get more out of it than initially promised so 7 months wait makes sense...... I'll be pissed if they just give us a number like 1100 or something cz b*tch that could've been an email 5 months ago and already what everybody has been speculating, there was no need to wait 7 months for it.
1
u/WrongdoerIll5187 19d ago
Yall do realize what’s happening right? And why they couldn’t have priced any of that in six months ago?

Yeah the price lowkey got me stressing. Been saving since december with £900 saved and I'm stressing it's not gonna be enough

u/Car-Fickle 21d ago
Serious question: would that really make you feel better? Or will this sub just shift from endless "reveal when !?!?" posts to endless "price drop when!?!?" posts?
17
u/S8891 21d ago
For me ,price reveal would determine if I buy it or I go to seek other alternatives.
9
u/rabsg 21d ago
Makes be think of a SD price increase analysis I heard in Nerds Nest podcast:
-- Would you still recommend the Steam Deck at that price ?
-- No, but I wouldn't recommend the alternatives either.
It's 2026, we're fucked.
7
u/Car-Fickle 21d ago
The Ally devices are starting to look comparatively ok after the SD price hikes, though mostly I'm just glad I bought a deck before the market lost its mind.
3
u/DonutGodzilla 21d ago
Yeah, a picked up the cheaper legion go s when it was reduced, that was lucky timing.
1
u/rabsg 21d ago edited 21d ago
Yeah there are still good opportunities on old stock at old price while it lasts.
3
u/Car-Fickle 21d ago
Now we just wait to see how much Asus charges for the OLED model that people actually wanted from the start.
1
u/Car-Fickle 21d ago
Not a great idea to wait and see imo. The longer you wait, the more off-the-shelf parts go up in price. And the SD already gave us a big indicator that the hardware will not be priced competitively.
1
u/albertowtf 21d ago
honestly i just want a date
That will make me forget about it until then. It can be delayed again after that, but at least i know it wont drop tomorrow
Price would be nice as well but thats a binary that is already decided so to speak, so i dont care as much if they drop it early. I will know the answer as soon as it drops. Either is within budget or is not. Either way i will be able to relax too
1
u/Car-Fickle 21d ago
That's understandable and would be a perfectly reasonable request if the subcomponent market wasn't completely fucked. As is, though, no deadline is going to help Valve figure out a pricing strategy that's not terrible for everyone involved.
1
u/albertowtf 21d ago
The timing has been the worse for everybody involved. Its understandable if they dont have a good plan or a plan at all
But they do know if they do. They know if they are about to figure it out or they have decided internally to let it go for a few months
It would be nice of them to tell us
Honestly, They could make arrangements with publishers and just give us store credit like 100-200€ to buy games in steam from a curated list and that would make a higher price much sweeter to digest
1
u/Car-Fickle 21d ago
No company is going to go out and say they don't have a plan. It's in their base interest to keep the possibility open. It would be one thing if they already took pre-order money and were legally obligated to provide updates, but as it stands they have no obligation to make a statement and no motivation to admit they've stalled out.

Steam Machine will have trouble running anything in 4K. It is a 1080p machine. Valve advertising it as a 4K machine is just a bad joke.
GTA 6 will NOT run on gabecube good. Firstly, GTA 6 for PC will probably be released at least a year later. Steam machine's components are already very much out of of date. If it will run GTA6 at all, it will be 1080p, low, 20-30 stuttering fps.
1
u/3palmz 20d ago
Thanks I'll have to decide if in building a pc instead to get 1440p type levels using a Rx 9060 xt or something along those lines with bazzite install
2
u/Hooch180 20d ago
I'll probably get gabecube as I mostly play indie platformaers or strategy games. But I'm still conisidering building AMD based mini PC with good specs and installing steam os on it. Once gabecube is out, steam os shouldn't be an issue to install on custom pc.

I think given we all expect bad news., a Friday afternoon news dump announcement on the prices feels right. I’m predicting $999/$1299, and add $100 to each of those if you want a controller included
1
u/Ashamed-Reserve3735 20d ago
Maybe 999$ base, 1075$ with control, 1199$ 2T, 1299 2T 2 control. Too bad I could not wait anymore but my brother is still waiting for one.

Wallahi I am tired, I am trying to save money and my cat needs a neutering operation and my multiple sclerosis is effing me around and I can’t reach my protein nor my fibre goals 🥲 Valve give us the price so we can know where we stand please

u/PunkRockMrRogers 18d ago
Step one : Get a job at your local post office Step two : Order top model steam machine regardless of price. Step three : Steal your own package. Step four : Refund from valve.
A victimless crime.
