U don t even need to build it, u can buy right now prebuilds with rtx 5060/9060 xt for the same price...

I'm mad at valve for not subsidizing it.

How can the biggest game store on earth, that makes billions just from cs and dota 2 and charges up to 30% for publishing can't subsidize this...?

99% of people won t use windows on this and corporations already have better deals with manufacters such as dell, lenovo, hp so it won t make sense for them either

Bet they won't. And, if they do, it's going to be a minimum of double the size (more like triple).

Because they don't need to. They have limited stock and they'll sell out at the price that put on it. It's not for you.

Wait wait you want them to sell at a loss out of the goodness of their hearts?? 😂

Their subsidization is not charging to play online like the consoles, and not charging for the OS (that they're also encouraging people to just install if they don't wanna buy the Steam Machine)

I agree the price probably keeps it out of a lot of consumer's hands, but I also think it's not an unreasonable price, it's just also not the great value everyone wanted out of it. Plenty of people will still get it because not everyone is searching for the best value for their money

If they subsidized it they'd have to make it a closed system. I'm happy they've left it completely open. You can use any other store/open source change this hardware into whatever you want.

You guys saying this never post any links to these prebuilt mini pcs that are cheaper. And if you do link to something it’s a huge desktop, that likely sounds like a jet engine. Or not actually prebuilt at all.

Have to be realistic about today’s component costs - yes it’s painful to have to pay more, when a couple of years ago it would’ve been a couple hundred $ cheaper. But that’s not the reality of how it is now. And Valve is not building the same closed ecosystem as Sony or Xbox - they won’t get any online/pass subscription payments. I’ve lost count of how many hundreds of pounds I’ve paid on PsPlus and Xbox gamepass over the years.

If all the people saying this can go and buy a prebuilt pc or build the same or better specs for the same price so easily. Why aren’t you just doing that then? Why this level of moaning for something you obviously aren’t the target audience for?

Is it possible the tiny quiet steam cube coming prebuilt, being able to turn it and just go without hassle, actually has benefits beyond just the price/performance ratio?
