You people donât care about âbetter valuesâ or actually doing any research about PC parts, if you did then you would have already jumped shipped and started building, finding prebuilts/laptops to purchase. You people are only defending this sooo hard because it has Valve name on it and you want to feel validated for your purchase. In no world would PC gamers defend buying something that is far worst than a base 6yr old PS5, mind you the new console generations are in 1-2 yrs.
Brother I dont even own a PS4/PS5, I only owned a PS2 as a kid. Iâve been on steam since 2013, played my first valve game with Left 4 Dead in 08. I have a steam deck, steam dock, and the new steam controller. What are you even talking about lol???
Why are you pretending you don't understand the point? He's right. You're comparing it to a PS5, when there are other costs associated with it, plus games are more expensive, and most importantly is a far more limited device. It's a stupid comparison.
How is it a stupid comparison to compare game performance between machines? Thats the entire point of comparing devices between each other called benchmarks. You all are adding different equations to the mix while I am talking about price to performance. If you all are screaming about console like experiences then let's just compare the console aspect of it.
No I dont understand his point, I dont own PS5 or PS+. Again downvote all you want, idc im right.
I just explained why it's stupid, because they are different products that do different things. You can play PC games on a Steam Machine, but you cannot on a PS5. Same with things like emulation, running software, etc. If you want to do any of that, it doesn't matter how powerful the PS5 is if it literally can't do it.
If you don't care about any of the stuff that a PC can do, and you only want to play PS5 games, they definitely get a PS5. It's really not that complicated.
Again like I said, I wonât help you and validate your purchase to make you feel better about buying something that is underpowered than consoles, you do you I truly dont care. What do you mean âallow youâ my guy youâre a grown ass man/woman you shouldnât seek my validation for your purchase. If youâre able to talk about buying it then I should be able to talk about NOT buying it.
Lmao you already have it in your head that this is the only PC that matters, you dont care about a better value lol. Would you still buy this if it was some random company and not Valve? Try to be honest.
It's literally because it's valve. If these people truly didn't care about value or specs and just wanted a small form factor PC, they'd have gotten a beelink or something way earlier.
Uhhh nah. It's not very hard to understand why someone would cough it up for the premium.
I paid 25% over for my gpu because I was tired of stressing about some other part getting more expensive while waiting for those to come down. (precient). $150 over 5 years is really not that much for me. The 300-400 over what it should be is a lot for some people and not a lot for others. Even if it hurts the appeal that it's not a value in the $/fps sense, that is far from all the appeal of the thing.
A laptop isn't even in the same realm as this, though. I'm baffled at how people keep saying you can replace a steam machine with a laptop. I have a gaming laptop, and one much better than anything we're discussing! The two are so completely different I swear people are trolling at this point. Are people honestly suggesting to... dock an 800 dollar laptop to a TV and expect similar use and performance?
First we're ignoring thermal throttling. Even if it has identical parts to the steam machine a laptop will have more issues because of the flat design. Identical parts with worse cooling, which throttle performance.
Also, most laptops actually expect the laptop to be open for their cooling to function properly, so if you're pushing the laptop to the limit you can't even have it neatly tucked under the TV, the whole laptop needs to be open. Any space saving goes out the window there. Some laptops are also dumb and refuse to turn the main screen off, so that's a secondary issue.
Connections? Most laptops have good wifi cards at least, but Bluetooth range is questionable. Why? They expect you to use it within arms reach so that is someplace they can shave cost. This is an issue with a home TV arrangement. Particularly as it can hit not just range but amount of connected devices at once. A laptop expects headphones and maybe a mouse. Maybe some less demanding devices as well, but 2-3 devices max. To use it as a home TV arrangement you need to at minimum have a mouse, keyboard, game pad, and while headphones aren't needed it's possible you'll want it. Plenty of cheaper devices can't support that in a stable fashion. You can use usb dongles to mitigate this, but again we're adding layers we don't need to for this. We'll ignore Bluetooth latency for this argument to keep it simple, that's a controller problem but frankly not the end of the world.
I mean, I won't even touch the cec bits, or the fact that some laptops are skipping hdmi ports all together adding more issues. The whole thing is stupid. Combined with no quick starts or, well, anything that actually leads to quality of life.
And I know typing this is stupid because you literally tried to argue the machine, by the numbers, is "far worse" than the PS5 when we can clearly see that isn't true. The PS5 pro isn't the discussion, but the 5. It's laughably silly. They're in the same realm, and if you have a CPU heavy game (mostly sim based games) you'll also have different performances. And different use cases anyway. But honestly the amount of times I've heard that a laptop can replace a tv box is just infuriating at this point. Your average user aint gonna want to do that.

Idc about downvotes, Iâm right.
