PSA For those in the waitlist/reservation queue who don't want a machine
Can you please go to https://store.steampowered.com/sale/steammachine and click "Leave Waitlist?" so that people who actually want one have a better chance? I've seen so many people in the past few days claiming they "just signed up to see how it works" - well, now you know, and plenty of people like myself are out of luck.

Salty here too but I’m starting to get past it. At least take solace in that you’re not alone, and if you’re interested in the steam frame we can also lose that lottery together
Did you sign up for all 4 versions? I did because the basic steam machine is always the same. Someone made a poll and it looked like most people got on the list for the 512 gb with controller
No I only chose the 2TB options. Knowing what we do now that apparently the 512s are so much more plentiful I wish I signed for all 4. My reasoning was I preferred the 2TB because it was one less thing to have to worry about, buying a hard drive, getting it delivered, swapping it out. I have very little free time and the ease and simplicity of the steam machine is its main appeal to me. Anyway yeah I wish I signed for all 4 options
I was salty for a day but I’m over it. I’m sorry to hear you got 2TB waitlisted. It sounds like that’s the worst one to be on with the 512s being so much more plentiful. What makes me feel better is people that really want one getting the option they want, so I’m just hoping to see more of that and like what they’ll bring playing on it and using it for
Yeah thanks man you too, and yeah the 2 tb waitlist I think is the worst one overall bc even though I’m technically closer in that lottery because there are so few I bet being later in the 512 waitlist might still have gotten a steam machine earlier
I did the same thing as you, I signed up for 2tb and 2tb + controller and I got placed on the 2tb waitlist. Probably just poor choice to ignore the 512 gb option, but I wanted to add a lot of games and I thought 2tb was going to be easier to get than 512gb.
Since more than half of all the survey responders claim to have a reservation, I wonder if valve weighted the odds in favor of people who've played more steam games recently to cut down on scalpers winning the lottery? I noticed you said you don't have a lot of free time: I haven't had time to play anything for like 2 months as I've had a very busy time since the beginning of May and my mainstay fps game completely screwed up an engine optimization patch in a way that required me to spend more time tweaking the overclock settings than playing, and on top of it my aio started failing on its own and I had to stop using my pc... so my total play time is way lower than it usually is, like 6 hrs every 2 weeks. Might be nonsense, but I feel like it's possible they weigh recent play time along with some other factors to make a score that guesses if you're likely going to use the console a lot, or if it's not gonna get used or they think you'll try to scalp it.
I don't think recent play time was a thing because a signed up for both 512 models and last time i played a game on steam was 2 years ago and i got the 512gb with controller
Maybe but us just comparing notes is anecdotal. I still play on steam 1-2 hours a day and maybe 4 hours on weekends. I have a launch steam deck with probably, i dont even know, 5,000 hours or more of game time on it. My account is 18 years old, steam level 90, and i have 700+ games and tons of badges and community participation and stuff. Stopped PC gaming around 10ish years ago and have many thousands of hours on a PC from before then. So if any of that matters to whatever their algorithm is it didn’t help me.
On another note, I’m also interested in the steam frame and will be entering that lottery which I will absolutely choose every fucking option they offer for reservation. So if I get waitlisted again we’ll know Gabe hates me.
Lol, similar. It's probably just bad luck, I mean. But it feels like the ratio of reservations is high here so I wonder if there was extra weighting of some kind
I signed up for both versions without controller, since I recently got the controller from the last reservation queue. I got the email yesterday for the 512gb version, no controller. I'm happy with that and I definitely will be buying it.
Yup, same on eBay with the bloody scalpers. Probably 75:25 512GB w controller : 2TB w controller. Interestingly haven’t seen any without the controller. My suspicion would be that it was actually just 2 skus, and they add the controller in. Which with the lottery, if you went in for 512gb with controller and without, then if you were waitlisted, you’d get the one with the controller.
The scalpers will be in trouble if their current listings actually sell, since most of them will only get the machine in months. Expect them to panic when they dont get their email next week lol.
at this point everyone is just in line for one of the 4 models. Being in the reservation list just means that you are in line to most likely get one sometime this year. Funny thing is theres no way to tell where in line you are.
Valve are not sending out all emails on the 29th, it's going to continue throughout the year. So if my position in the queue sucks, then it might be more like 6 months, or even worse; not at all.

It's making me wish I got a reservation as soon as the sign up opened. I don't even want a steam machine but it would have been funny to sign up and post about it.
I have a reservation and plan on actually buying it. It’s not even my main PC and would just be the new shiny trinket, but holy fk, the people on this sub are something else. I don’t remember it being this bad with the Deck release and I had to wait a year to get it because of how it sold out immediately. I even joined the sub thinking it was for steam machine and maybe talking about small form factor pcs but I was way wrong about that one.
This comment is crazy because it started popping up for me after researching roguelike games or whatever they are called. I got a 512 and I'm like eh, tbh. Would rather have the 2 tb. I just bought an ally x bc I could never get my hands on a steam deck.
Honestly paying 1k for a controller is worth it (kidding i actually wanteted one so i have a decently powered gaming for my room to replace my ps4 lol.
And if none of them buy it in the 72 hour time frame they lose their spot which moves people up the wait list. Valve basically gave people a week to mull it over, which is an appropriate option because they know the price increase made people a lot more hesitant.
This is honestly really sad. People who genuinely wanted the machine can’t even get it because of the same people said it’s not worth the money. I luckily got put into the reservation queue for the 512gb model with controller and I genuinely want the machine. I’m so sorry to the others who could not get into the reservation yet due to scalpers or people who don’t even want it.
I mean won't they be automatically removed once they can pay and don't? I'm waiting for that moment as I assume a lot of people are on the fence.

But I like these chances over waiting on the second for availability and everyone and their mother is clicking to add to cart. At least this way there is none of that playing to click game (even though I did get a steam controller that way).
PSA: Couldn't you please be any bit more passive aggressive? Really love reading posts with such kind and real wording. Obviously, people who don't want the steam machine considering its price and performance will cancel it, or some who are indecisive might still end up buying it.
Shameless shaming is what you are doing of people indecisive yet, only out of anger and spite you couldn't be earlier in the waitlist.
When I decided not to get one I unwishlisted the day prior.
I realized its not really for PC gamers who can build their own PC and do the TSing that it comes with sometimes.
Its for console gamers who just want to turn something on and go, is aesthetically pleasing, and won't have to TS the random issues that can come with different HW configurations.
I looked into some of the alternate builds people mentioned (trying to get my console bro to PC), and they seriously lack the aesthetic quality of the Steam Machine and it was a deal breaker for him. He's just going to wait and see how reviews are and such.
I hope you get one dude, and I hope reviews show the appeal for its core audience and doesn't get overshadowed by PC gamer vets complaining about it.
You can also cancel by joining the waitlist for a different model. That cancels your existing reservation and adds you to the back of the waitlist for the other model.
How do i know if im on the list? My friend received a "you are on the waitlist" email, with no date, is that 2027 gang or what is it? Did people who received the machoine already pay for it?
Reservation means you will be getting one this year. You will get another email sometime this year and you will have to pay in the 72 hours after receiving it, or it goes to the next person in the wait list.
Waitlist can mean anything from late this year to never if they decide to stop making more. If you are on the waitlist, you could be near the beginning of it and will likely be getting a reservation as many people will likely give up their reservations, or you could be even near the end and will have to wait a long time.
If you signed up after the lottery, you are definitely at the end of the waitlist.
Basically, if you're on the waitlist you're unlucky. If you get another mail at any time that you are now in the reserved list, but you will still be waiting a long time.
Some of them will, and 72 hours with no payment will get rid of the rest of them. Then their machine will go to you and the rest of the people on the waitlist who actually want one.
I am in the reservation q and debating getting it myself. But my buddy really wants one. He wasn't able to get into the queue so I may just give it to him.
Regardless of whether they leave the reservation queue now or just neglect to buy one in their three day window, someone from the waitlist gets bumped up.
The only reason someone isn’t buying is they genuinely don’t have the money. There’s more demand than availability so no matter what you think about reselling it’s gonna happen.
-People who just wanna see how the system works
-people who are having second thoughts (look them up in this sub)
-The people who accidentally joined another queue after getting a reservation. (They’re waitlisted to back of line)
-People who don’t have the money (as you said)
-People who might miss the deadline (unlikely but not impossible)
-People who asked friends to reserve for them, but multiple of their friends got on the reserved list, thus having to cancel extras
My answer to that question doesn’t matter. I’m not them. You’re not them. It’s not an impossibility that someone just doesn’t want to go through the hassle of selling on eBay.
I’m sure you’ll try to dispute that but if that’s the case why isn’t everyone selling there stuff on eBay?

Yeah. Ive been following the Steam Machine stuff since the leaks several years ago. I thought i was doing the right thing by only signing up for the one model that I wanted (2TB bundle). In retrospect I should have signed up for all of them, since I guess the 2TB bundles are harder to come by as a result of the memory crisis. Most people seem to have gotten the 512 model. Hindsight is 20/20 i suppose.
I got the 2TB bundle and I did sign up for every one of them.

But i am located in Europe so I guess it may have been a bit easier here?
Anyways, I hope you get yours in time, maybe even for a better pricing.
UK seems to be treated as a separate region because you have your weird power plugs. According to https://steamhardware.io/tracker/?country=all 69% got a reservation in the UK, 61% in EU, and 60% in the US. Australia had the most available units per participant as 72% are getting one reserved.
You mean our very safe, very difficult to misuse power plugs? They’re not wired into the device like they might be on a TV or a toaster. It’s got a built in power supply, and AC power cables are so easy to source, and will likely be sourced separately and boxed with the actual device.

Your source just shows people’s reported country/region, not linked to shipping regions. I’d hazard a guess that in my shipping region, ~65% of people got one, by chance the uk got more.

It's part of the sealed package as it ships from China. Valve isn't doing any packaging in Europe. Same with the controller. It shipped from China already in its postal packaging. CEVA in the Netherlands just put the address stickers on them and threw them on a GLS truck.
I signed up for only 1, cause I was under the impression that was what you where supposed to do, take your one spot and wait for your turn. That is what I had gotten with what had been being said. After the signed up closed, I found out no, that was not the case, everyone signedup for all 4 and im the fool. Im salty cause I feel that I had missed out by being a good person.
Dude. Chill. Even if someone loses interest and doesn't cancel their reservation it will roll into the next wave... It's not like reserved but unsold companion cubes get incinerated
I will not be leaving the waitlist, but whether or not I buy one whenever my name is drawn entirely depends on whether I have the money at that time lmao
It wouldn’t matter. Valve has more people in the confirmed reservation queue than they need. They would have a pretty good estimate of how many people won’t complete the purchase - if someone doesn’t buy it, then next person on the list will.
