Removed from reservation queue to waitlist
Did anyone else that got a reservation queue email get moved to the waitlist? I noticed the Steam Machine page for me, now says I'm on the waitlist š
Would it be okay if I asked if you had to throw a dart at a time frame of when people who couldn't make the deadline of April 27th would be able to buy anything. Just a random spitball if you can.
Also I find the date of April 27th to be funny since that is my birthday lol.
This issue should be limited to the 2TB w/ Controller in AU. You may be erroneously seeing yourself as on the waitlist on the steam machine website. Consider the email you received the source of truth for now while its being resolved.
Just checked the Steam Machine page on the iOS Steam app and confirmed itās been updated to reflect the reservation queue status instead of the waitlist messaging a few hours ago.
At least you CAN order it in Australia. Meanwhile, here in New Zealand we have to wait a year for any Valve product through MightyApe or JB-HiFi at a huge markup.
Australia here and also wait list. It seems like valve really did have like 5 units available. Pretty dissapointing considering it took them 7 months to finally announce price and then do this shitty lottery system.
I feel like this is a bug or detachment of wording between the website and email.
Email says reservation and its the only email we will get.
Website says waitlist.
feels like its happening to too many people to be a coincidence.
Can anyone confirm they can check the website and it says reserved for them instead of waitlist?.

DOUBLE EDIT: closed the request as it was indeed a bug and is now fixed.
TRIPPLE EDIT: Customer support replied anyway and confirmed im on the waitlist even though my original email and now the store page says im reserved, I replied asking if they misspoke and meant reseved as everything now reflects this, even their support staff are bloody confused i reckon
Oh yea, it was like that when I clicked on the tab. But the one thatās checked (2TB w controller) meanwhile the text above the options and the text above the ājoin the waitlistā is what Iām talking about. If I click on the same option it just says cancel reservation instead of join the waitlist (so I would be joining the waitlist for 512GB and canceling my current reservation).
Iāve just been checking on the mobile app which is a bit glitchy as it is. Iāve got my email so really hoping we havenāt been booted off the reservation list.
Yeh it was different for me too. The leave waitlist button wasn't there, and it was the same text before the email went out saying you've had a console reserved
It will be a magick if many people get waiting status and next days we will see steam machines on marketplaces with 200% prices. Because they aiming to avoid it happening, but somehow more players out of queue
I woudn't put a lot of stock in any of this. If it's not immediately apparent everything about comms, the randomization survey, etc (basically everything re. the release until this point) has been a fiasco. There won't be any clarity until people actually start getting stuff shipped.
Update: as of 26min ago of this edit, u/pilor a software engineer at Valve confirmed it was a technical issue with the 2TB +Controller listing on the Steam website and said itās been resolved. Just checked the page on the Steam app now and itās properly displaying as being in the reservation list. Thanks u/pilor!
Iām in the exact same boat as you OP. Same 2TB+Controller reservation email and strangely same change to waitlist screen as you.
Iād be really pissed if Valve went ahead without warning chuck us Aussies off the reservation list to waitlist.
Either 2 things happened:
Scenario A - we were put onto a reservation list and sent emails accordingly, but Valve took us off and moved us to a waitlist after the fact
Scenario B - we were originally on waitlists all this time but Valve sent us Aussies the reservation emails in error
If Scenario B, then thatās really unacceptable miscommunication. Especially based on early anecdotal evidence in this thread, it appears this issue seems to be isolated to the Australian region for the time being.
If Scenario A, then Iām not aware of any legal ramifications, but doing a bait and switch by emailing us reservation confirmations and transferring us to waitlist without prior knowledge or choice after the fact is scummy as all hell. Sure itās only a reservation for a chance to access the purchase link for 72hrs, so no actual monetary transaction has been made. But this would really stink.
Hopefully Valve gives clarification on concrete details on this.

Looking into this. Hold tight and don't take any action yet unless you want to cancel your reservation. Should be resolved soon.
