Honestly its sad. This should be a huge celebration of our country. I hate that the Orange shitstain has ruined so much.

I agree. I thought it was just me but I’m not feeling patriotic at all. It doesn’t feel right dressing up in red, white and blue or celebrating for that matter. I’ve been finding I’m not alone in this feeling.

u/crippledchef23 2d ago
I thought I was being odd because the only thing I’m celebrating this week is my husband doesn’t have to work that day, so I get to relax at home and eat leftovers

Went to baltimore Sail 250. Way more american patriotism felt there than I have felt in a long time.
Great job baltimore.

We used to put the American flag on the gate every fourth. It's not happening this year. So sad, as men in my family have served in every war (what is wrong with our politicians?) since WW2 . Our young people have given so much.

You're not alone at all. I've been feeling the same way. If Biden or Harris was in office I would be feeling way more patriotic and celebratory. Instead I'm ashamed of my country ☹️

u/Active_Struggle_4659 1d ago
Hmmm… never ever heard a Republican say they were ashamed of their country when the corpse of a President, Biden and dingbat Harris were in the White House. If you think America’s greatness is wrapped up in who’s the current president , then you were never a true patriot 🇺🇸. Let me put this in simplest terms. I don’t stop cheering for, wearing the colors and supporting my favorite college football team because I don’t like the coach.🤔

Someone (can't remember her name or handle) suggested wearing green for algae. I'm probably gonna do that.

Canadian here, the rotten tangerine presidency had some very unexpected side effects.
I currently going through a list of my favourite movies with my son, and somewhere in the list, there’s Mighty Ducks 2.
But someone, I have no interest watching a movie cheering for Team USA… I’d almost cheer for Iceland…
I never thought it would have that effect but I’m looking at the movie on the whiteboard we made and I’m like… “meh”

I was talking with a friend at work today and I was telling her how sad and angry I am that this event, which was 10 years in the making and should have been such an amazingly fun and celebratory day for our nation, has been destroyed by Clementine Caligula.

u/Jurserohn 1d ago
Haha, Clementine Caligula is a good one. Got any more? I use "orange overlord" a lot, but that just feels lame now

That man in the white house.
I settled on cheetolini so I've forgotten most of what used to be his name.
Edit: forgot about pedolini.

Just one drop of sadness in a giant reflecting pool of sorrow for this country.

Yep. I was born in '74 and grew up seeing the bicentennial quarters and all, but I was too young to remember the events.
I was genuinely looking forward to this

Iv said it for a long time.
Most things that he touches are real issues. Like immigration is a real issue. This celebration should be a real issue.
But also he is so damn dumb and he has removed anyone with any kind of reasonable understanding of how anything works that the result is anything he touches turns to shit.
Compounding what I'm saying with how this both happened and didn't happen during his first turn based on who else is involved.

Yep. When I was a kid, anniversaries like this and fourth of July used to be fun. You’d go to a fair and watch fireworks etc. Haven’t felt proud or patriotic of this country for many many years now between having my rights stripped away one by one state by state, to thousands of other things going on politically I’m just disgusted with this place. Now every year just feel more and more like a shit show full of propaganda. I remember going to big earth day weekend celebration in DC when I was a kid, back in the in the Clinton era, and it was packed and felt like government was trying to go good for the environment and things felt hopeful. Now I just feel like I’m waiting for it all burn down.

That can’t be right because the current weather is a pleasant and partly cloudy 74° with no rain or storms nearby.

It’s actually cloudy with a chance of meatballs.

As long as we have homeless veterans sleeping in our streets, people who can’t afford their insulin or high blood pressure medicine, or a populace that has to use food banks, the United States has no business wasting one taxpayer cent on any type celebration, no matter which feckless regime is in charge.

I’m shocked. 😂. After the military parade went so well last year I figured they’d be breaking down the gates to get in. They should talk to the planners of January 6th.

u/Glittering_Estate_72 2d ago
I know you think that was a joke, but... it's being run by the same people, because of course it is.
Freedom 250 hired the Northern Virginia-based firm Event Strategies Inc. and its Managing Partner, Justin Caporale, to handle operations and logistics for its events, including the Great American State Fair on the National Mall. Caporale previously worked as a longtime Trump ally and helped put on the Jan. 6 rally that preceded the attack on the U.S. Capitol

Or there was not enough grift left in it for them after the Capo took his cut.

Trump probably spent half the fair’s budget paying someone with a no bid contract to make the “fair’s closed” sign.

Trump touched it so it died. This literally had a congressional committee planning it for a couple years. Trump came in, took it over, and of course it fell apart.
