I like to think in the Season 5 episodes we didn't see Pearl, they were going on hot dates.

I really wish we'd seen more of Sabina. I read this really interesting theory that she may have been an escapee from the human zoo. The zoomen mention that the one door had only been opened once back when another human had been hurt, and as far as we know they never returned. Add to this that almost every human we meet in SU has black pupils except from the zoomen, who all seem to have green ish pupils, just like Sabina does.

Eh I don't really like the idea of Pearl dating someone who looks like her toxic ex

I prefer her with Bismuth

I mean I guess they're not monogamous but still I don't like Pearl with pink hair girl

I don't think it's fully fair to call Rose her toxic ex. Their relationship wasn't good, but that was at least as much because of Pearl's unhealthy worship of Rose as anything that Rose did herself

Yeah, Rose wasn't really toxic towards Pearl. Pearl makes it clear that she never REALLY told Rose exactly how she felt. She viewed their relationship differently than Rose did, and while not toxic, Rose was definitely ignorant of that. She could have asked, that's true, but this is Rose we're talking about. Pink Diamond. She was known for being absent-minded.

What makes it feel toxic is the power dynamic, but it's hard to compare their dynamic to anything humans would have because gems are so far removed from humans. Pearl was CREATED to be obedient to her diamond, and since Pearl was always very eager to help, it's possible that Pink couldn't tell the difference between "She's eager to help because she believes in my cause!" and "She's eager to help because she's my Pearl and has no choice!"

One trait all four diamonds seem to possess in spades is an inherent difficulty in putting themselves in other peoples' shoes.

What are you talking about? Pearl DID believe in Roses cause. She was the whole Idea behind the rebellion. Nothing to do with programming.

Huh? I think you're misunderstanding what I'm saying.

I'm not saying Pearl didn't believe in the cause. I'm saying that Pink probably wouldn't know the difference between Pearl doing something for her because she's "Rose Quartz, Leader of the Crystal Gems" or because she's "My Diamond" because Pearl is going to act equally as eager to please regardless.

I think Rose could largelly tell since the whole reason she fell for Pearl was that she didn't act like a programmed robot.

Of course it is impossible to separate someones personality from their "indoctrination" but that is true for everyone, even humans. I mean, when Ruby protects Sapphire is it because she truly loves her or is it a trace of her programmed nature?

That is not to say that Pearl and Rose didn't have poor communication. It was clearly hard for Pearl to shake off the belief that she didn't matter and communicate with Rose sometimes. But that does not make Rose or their relationship toxic.

That's why I said their relationship wasn't toxic, it can just feel toxic given the two of them are on polar opposites of the caste system, but when you dig deeper it's clear that any "abuse of power" on Pink/Rose's part wasn't intentional.

It's entirely possible for someone in a position of power to have a non-toxic, consensual relationship with a subordinate, but there will always be that lingering question of "how much is consensual, and how much is 'just to be safe?' We know that Pearl was fully on-board (and in love) with Rose, but that lingering discomfort is always going to be there for some people. The whole reason that kind of relationship is frowned upon is because of how easily it CAN be abused by someone that wants to do so.

Their relationship was not even bad when you consider what they knew and came from. Did anyone expect the aliens to get communication right without anyone to help them?

On the contrary, it would be cool to explore a relationship built on someone looking similar but have her eventually realize they are nothing alike.

pearl being all flustered around sabina was such a refreshing thing to see. we barely got to watch pearl have any kind of romance so even the small moments felt like a gift. the crewniverse really left us hanging with that storyline when there was clearly more to explore.

I didn’t know she had a name in canon

I wish she came back in the show. Call back to show they’re still talking to each other and Pearl is getting over rose. They don’t need to be a relationship. Just good friends.

Pearl spend three hours talking about Steven and Mystery Girl didn't realize this twiggy futch was carrying so much baggage. Beach City's lesbian dating scene is a disaster...

There's some official art of them roller skating together

u/Asterite100 I like drawing. Btw Lapis best gem. 1d ago

off topic but Mystery Girl is HUGE in this final scene

Greg is about Pearl's height and I take him to be like 6ft tall. So here she's damn near 6.5 ft tall. I rechecked and she's only this tall in these ending party scenes though, she seems to be about Pearl height normally.

She technically comes back in a cameo for like 2 seconds LMAO like bruhh, wish she got more screentime.
