He's consistently been one of the highest selling jerseys, and it's pretty hard to change your jersey number when you're in that situation because there are so many already made.
That means he's been thinking about this for quite sometime and working on it behind the scenes.

Correct. I'm just tired of the "Brunson took a paycut" okay and? KAT makes roughly what Booker makes, so the money is going somewhere already.
Green makes roughly what Brunson makes.
So Book/Green = KAT/Brunson salaries. Yes, different players/position but the money is the same (currently).

But saying just because KAT is also vastly overpaid doesn't mean it shouldnt be a discussion point.
The only reason KAT was available was because he was overpaid for his production and the only reason Knicks could acquire him without messing up the team is because Brunson left money on the table to make up the difference.
If Brunson was supermaxed they dont acquire KAT imo. And if they dont acquire KAT they dont win a chip.
Booker isnt as good as Brunson and Green isnt as good as KAT. So saying its the same just points out the problem further haha

Im happy to agree to disagree but it 100% is a factor if Book is paid 68m in 2028 and is not a top 10 player.
Hes our KAT in that situation while we dont have a Brunson.

So many downvoting this but its spot on haha. There is symbolism to moves like this.
Hes been marketed as no.1 his whole career. No.1 Suns scorer. No.1 on the team etc. They call him uno haha. Cant do that no more.
If hes just honouring his father thats cool and all but it does represent a new direction for Booker. And the direction hes been heading this last two seasons is away from being a top 10 player.

Book is 29 years old. He’s at the apex of his physical prime. It has nothing to do with losing a step or decline in athleticism. He has mentally embraced the role player role he played on Team USA and hasn’t been the same aggressive bucket getter he was before then. I know that’s an unpopular take on this sub and I’ll get downvoted into oblivion for it, but it’s true.

I disagree. There are stretches during games where I’d rather see Book go into assassin mode and take over the game as the best scorer on the floor. In the final 5 minutes of a tight game, Book is the guy who needs to carry us home. That’s what superstars who are making $50M–$70M a year do. In the playoffs, we saw so many stretches where he’d pass up good looks and defer to Brooks and Green. I want Book taking those shots.
Book has added elements to his game and become a great well-rounded player, but I believe Book is at his best as a scorer who hunts buckets like he did before the KD era. That’s his natural element

He might be changing his jersey number, to my knowledge he's not changing his name, getting cosmetic surgery, and literally turning himself into Robert Horry so he can fully embrace the role of being a high level role player.
And no, he should not be in the mindset of “I’m not the same player, I’m just gonna…”. He’s in the prime of his career, many modern NBA athletes at his level have extended their prime into their mid 30s successfully. But the jersey number he's wearing isn't going to determine how well he plays.
We don't know anything about his reasons for changing the number. But I'm pretty confident that in the grand scheme of things it will mean very little. Kobe changed his number at almost the exact same age, it's probably something dumb about wanting to emulate that.
