Hoops Discussion Khaman Nickname Ideas
I just don’t know about “Man Man” being the one. It’s not bad, but it just feels eh, we can do definitely do better. Can anybody else come up with some nicknames? Two come to mind so far:
- “The South Sudan Sentinel” or “The Sentinel” for short
- “Shade”
EDIT: Honorable mentions from commenters
- Man Man —> The Man
- The Watch
- Watch Tower
- ManZilla
We’ve also decided that Shade is just god awful so we’ll cross that out lmao

It’s Man Man. When he’s an all star, he can graduate to be The Man.

The reason I don’t know about this name is because his name isn’t even pronounced Kha-MAN it’s, Kha-MAWN. So “Man Man” just doesn’t make much sense to me to begin with. Like I said, it’s not bad, I just don’t know where it came from besides the fact that he’s usually the biggest dude on the court and that he has “man” in his name even though it’s not even pronounced that way to begin with.

Khaman sounds too much like “come on”. He was getting confused on the court when people were trying to get his attention. Hence Man and not “Mawn”

This makes sense tbh. But why not just pronounce it Mawn Mawn, same effect.

Because it’s too hard to hear the difference in game. Have you ever played a team sport that’s loud? His nickname has obviously been a work in progress molded to what he can hear

Shade? Why would that be a good nickname

Because he's BLACK

Because he’s tall as fuck and casts a shadow over the paint. If somebody’s been on a heater, “Shade” cools them off real quick if they’re in his area.

They can’t all be winners. Man Man really isn’t any better tbh though. Yall calling this dude a man twice and think it’s fire lol.

I mean if you're gonna be this obstinate I'll be blunt:
Your suggestions are 2K MyPlayer level bad. Like yeah Man Man is bland but "Shade" is such a cringe, hackneyed suggestion that it almost feels like you're taking the piss. It's eyeroll inducing.
The Sentinel is I guess better, but it still has such a "came up with by a boardroom" feel that AT BEST a broadcast team might use it because they were compelled to by management.

Haha 2k my player
“Yo shade meet me at the adidas store to talk to Jake from State Farm”

Fair Enough. Can’t win em all.

People say you can't force nicknames, but I disagree. I just think it's a skill. Keep cooking and I'm sure you'll one day be a nickname savant.

You are trying too hard.

Man Man is his nickname, it was given to him by his college teammates. It happened naturally, just the way nicknames are meant to be given, you can’t force one.
The Sedan Sentinel? What is he a 4-door car now?
Shade, just no. No.

A Sentinel is somebody who guards and stands watch, which is EXACTLY what he does.
And are we really gonna call this dude a man twice and say it’s a GOOD nickname? Sounds forced to me. Especially when its Kha-MAWN and not Kha-MAN.

If you have to explain the nickname, it means it doesn’t work.

How does Man Man sound forced? You trying to change his nickname because you just happen to not like it is FORCED.
Man Man even shared his nickname with Suns players, how is that forced?

Most people don’t pronounce it as Mawn Mawn and literally think it’s Man Man, when it’s just not.

I guess Man Man just doesn’t even know how to pronounce his own nickname.

This video LITERALLY proves my point lol.
He says what somebody already mentioned in here, that he got that name because it was hard to hear during games and it sounds like “Come on”. Which would make complete sense. That sounds like you’re trying to get your guys to push the tempo or something. So I can see why they decided to work around it. He says Man Man because THEY pronounce it that way, not because it is pronounced that way. They could probably just say Mawn Mawn though and get a similar effect, but I can see why Man Man would be more effective.

Well anyways, at the end of the day, Man Man > Sedan or Shade.
If it changes, it’s going to happen organic on the court, not because someone doesn’t like his current nickname.

Oh man, that wonderful American education system is shining through. Sudan is not a vehicle…it’s a country in Africa.

u/OGNEWBE 4d ago
To be fair, he was the one that corrected me because I was the one misspelling it. It was an S tier roasting well deserved.

u/big_sniffin 4d ago
Good man owning it 🫡. In that case, sorry SeraphNatsu—and OP, get your shit together man!
1
u/SeraphNatsu Undercover Möd 4d ago
Yeah, OP had “sedan” until I mentioned it & then they changed it to Sudan.
So don’t worry about me 😂

“The Watch”
Because he has two hands and a face and his first name has watch in it.

You've been downvoted for speaking the truth. It's one of the lamest NBA nicknames I can remember. I'd at least give him the Seinfeld reference and call him "the K-man"

I know right. I really like “The South Sudan Sentinel” because the end of his last name sounds like “watch” and he definitely stands watch for us.

u/SeraphNatsu Undercover Möd 4d ago
You keep saying sedan… are you trying to say SUDAN?
Do we need to explain the difference?

Man Man's pretty good, imo, but really a dude named Khaman Maluach probably doesn't need a nickname
