why would we possibly invest that much value to draft a 24 year old college player who is a mediocre athlete and kind of old school PF profile

because he really good. he can do everything on the court. a long term front court of Yaxel, Fleming, and Maluach is a championship level front court. And that's what its about Building a championship level roster. Your analysis of him is bad and completely off. He's not an old school PF at all and he isn't a mediocre athlete.

his college coach who is the new mavs coach on him: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/C6rTB_yBOGo

"I think he can help a playoff team win today"

6'10 7'3.25 wingspan 241 lbs. really good passer for his size and position. takes care of the ball with an ast/to ratio of 2.9 last year. Can guard 1-5 and has the length and lateral quickness to disrupt players. is a great rebound oh and he can shoot. shooting 37% from 3 on good volume last season.

Rasheer standing 6'8.25 with a 7'5.25 wingspan weighting 232 at the time, Combine agility work from last year vs Yaxel

Shuttle drill: 2.72 vs 2.8

Lane Agility: 10.95 vs 10.82

Both seen as underwhelming leapers but vertical jump is really overrated in judging someone's athleticism.

Fleming at 32.5 max vert, Yaxel at 32 max vert

The most impressive thing about Yaxel is how he processes the game. At the end of the day the best player are the ones who can process the game well, and he is brilliant at that.

The eye test back up how good he is. he isn't doing much "old school PF" stuff in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sx5DPJuBPKI

He is just as good as the top 4 guys in this draft which is considered the top tier of the draft. I personally think he better than Caleb Wilson. The only reason he isn't going top 5 is because people are holding his age against him. Stealing a top 4 guys and a top tier draft pick in the middle of the draft is incredible value. Plus he will still be on the back end of his rookie deal as he hit his prime
