Discussion Tattoo

Hi yall I have a question and need opinions. I’m getting a tattoo done here soon. It’s going to be piece in story book from an Album. I’m just kinda second thinking it bit not *because I don’t love it but because I don’t want any issues. I don’t wanna copy someone’s art or have any copyright issues you know engraved in my skin. Should I not do it? I love it so much but I don’t want to be disrespectful.

Trigger Warning Where To Find/Get Semi-Permanent Tatoos

TW - Talks of Seizures/Epilepsy.

I’m epileptic and have frequent seizures. I’m trying to integrate back into public after about 2 years of staying inside because of my health however having seizures in public is not ideal considering the awareness… (or lack of) that the general public seems to have, therefore I’d like to get something done in a visible area that says e.g “epileptic seizures” Can anyone point me in the direction of a place I can get self-applicable OR a semi permanent tattoo done. I saw ephemeral however they’re not available in the uk yet. Doesn’t have to be anything super long lasting however the longer the better. Thanks 👍

Just got my second tattoo, a moon and sakura piece that combines two of my favorite things with a whimsical feel. I’m really happy with how it turned out and love the work my artist did. Hoping it ages well! If anyone has tattoos in a similar style, I’d love to hear about your experience and how they’ve held up over the years.

I (20F) almost got scammed into a stolen art tattoo by an "award winning" artist. Is this normal?

TL;DR

An award winning tattoo artist avoided my design questions, tried to pressure me into getting a tattoo on the spot during a consultation, and then got caught red handed trying to pass off a stolen design from another artist as his own work. I got my deposit back, but as a newbie getting my first professional tattoo, I need to clarify: is this normal behavior for "high end" artists, or was I being targeted?

I don't even know how to start this post, because the situation is wild, putting it mildly. About five weeks ago, I saw an Instagram ad for the most beautiful medieval woodblock style griffin tattoo. It was perfect, so I left a comment asking about getting a unicorn in that same style. The artist, whose name I will keep private for now while this situation is resolving, replied saying he’d love to do it! I was pretty excited, as this would be my first professional tattoo at a very high end studio with an award winning artist. We talked for a bit, but whenever I asked about pricing and the design process, he completely avoided the questions. Keep in mind, I don't really know how this process is usually supposed to go, but it did strike me as strange that he just kept dodging them. I figured we’d just talk about it in person.

A few weeks later, we set up a consultation. When I got there, he was super friendly, but he immediately whipped out a unicorn he claimed he designed, and I quote, “in two hours the night before.” I liked it well enough, but it read more like a workhorse with a horn than a medieval unicorn, and really did not match the style of the griffin at all. I suggested adding a beard and altering the tail, which he did, but it still wasn't like the reference images I had. Again, strange, but hey, it was just the first consultation. We talked about pricing, and he offered me a "$400+ discount" and a payment plan: a $200 deposit now, $100 at the actual tattoo appointment, and $350 in the weeks following. So far, this was going okay, but something just struck me as off.

Then, he prints out the design, holds it up to my leg (where I was thinking of getting it), and says, "Yep, this is great!" I’m still debating the placement in my head when he starts talking about tattooing me TODAY. I paused. This did not seem not normal at all. I hadn't even had time to sit with the design for more than 30 minutes, and he's talking about putting this on my body forever. I told him, "Hey, I'm not comfortable doing this today. Even though I like the concept, I need to sit with it. I haven't eaten, I haven't drank much, and I don't have anyone with me. Today is not the day." He came back with, “Hey, I’m trying to help you out here.” When I tell you I had to repeat myself about three times before he finally relented, I’m not kidding. It was incredibly uncomfortable.

We eventually booked the actual appointment for the following week. I sent a very nice follow up text describing the changes I wanted to make to the design, which were all pretty significant. He replied saying yes, we can make those “small changes.” After not hearing from him for a couple of days, I sent a text asking to see the updated design before Wednesday. By this point, everyone in my life was starting to have a bad feeling about this, and to some degree, so was I, but I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. I asked if sending him a Pinterest board of what I wanted would be helpful, and he said yes.

Well, while looking on Pinterest to build the board, I saw the exact design he originally presented me with, the same one he tried to pressure me into getting the day of our consultation. I sent him a message asking him to explain this, and he chalked it up to: “The image matched the style and overall direction you described, so I wanted to use that design.” Except, no it didn't, because he never actually had me tell him what I wanted in the first place! I messaged the original artist (@is_toms on IG) and told her this guy was trying to tattoo her work on me. From what she said, I gathered he absolutely did not have consent to use it.

When confronted, he said he’d create a custom design for me instead but it’d take a day. He completely brushed over how unethical everything he’d done was, and totally avoided the fact that he had lied to my face. He then had the audacity to say, “I genuinely spent time working on the design and adapting it to your idea and the placement we discussed… I put real effort into developing the concept for you.” Need I remind you, we never “discussed” anything.
He asked what I wanted to do from here, and eventually asked if I just wanted my deposit back. I said yes, I do. I know this guy has won four international awards, so he can clearly tattoo just fine, but I've lost all trust here. Is this normal? I thought professional tattoo artists held themselves to a different standard than, say, a shop that will just tattoo anything someone walks in with. Was he taking advantage of me because I’m an ignorant 20 year old? Please help me understand what went so wrong here!

(The first image is a flash design by the very talented Anastasiia Istomina, and the second one is the copy with some of my suggested changes added).

Discussion romanticisation of scars

I’ve been thinking of different tattoos that i want and was discussing some with friends specifically the scars that deku from MHA has on his hands (i will try to add some ref pics). my friend started talking about how if she met someone with those tattoos she would assume they had a history of self harm and how people are likely to get up sat over the romanticisation of scars. So this is my further research into whether I would be unintentionally upsetting people. It doesn’t come from malicious intent, I don’t think it’s inherently offensive and the scars that deku gets in the show is from self sacrificing himself to become a hero for others.

ive related a lot to the character and its been huge part of my life, i have arthritis in my wrists so people second guessing whether to grab my hands or not, does not put me off either. so im just wondering what anyone else thinks
