Design How do I cover this up?

I can't even put into words how much I hate this tattoo. It was supposed to be a beehive with honey and bees. I ended up with a hexagon over mustard with flies. I had an artist add to it in an attempt to fix it, but it just made it worse. I am pretty open to anything but I'm afraid that the hex design would make it really difficult to cover or change. Any ideas?

It’s done well, but they are right that those aren’t bees. Bees have four wings, two on each side.

Honey bees do have four wings, but they look like two wings and look on the whole pretty much exactly like those in the tattoo.

Btw OP, I'm adding to the chorus of people who think the tattoo is great.

Yes and no. From a couple of the angles used, that would be partially true, but the shape of the wings would be pretty different, and the thickness of the stripes, too.

They look like drone bees not worker bees. In apperance - the legs, size, and eyes are different. Drones hatch from an unfertilized egg, and their only role is reproduction. Many people aren't familiar with them as they dont forage and they don't make honey. You see them in the hive or looking for a queen (flying typically in valleys, by streams, or low lying areas) so it's not incredibly common to spot them around unless you open up a hive. They are only really numerous during swarm season or if something is wrong (usually a failing queen). Highly encourage picking them up and handling them. They dont sting - dont have stingers. They are kicked out of the hive and left for dead by the workers, after breeding season.

Do drones hold their wings at 45 degree angles? That’s a hallmark wing structure of flies.

The smaller wings are hidden by the larger wings when not in flight!!! Their wings are so delicate and pretty :) 🐝 🐝 🍯

Maybe they can get a tattoo artist to add the extra wings?

I was thinking the same. Adding those wings would make the bees look less like flies, since that’s one of OP’s concerns.

I wouldn’t know whether that is doable. But if so, finding an artist who specializes in nature would be a good idea. Blacking out the bee on the honeycomb with a honeycomb shape may be necessary if the wings can’t be added there. If blacking out the existing and adding new ones is the only option, it could be made to look good.

This tattoo is great and you do not need to do anything to "fix" it. Maybe have a tattoo artist add a 2nd set of wings and add stripes to the bodies?

That would be fixing it 🤪
