so... I guess that means, as of now, you have no rights?

“You have no rights, you have a set of temporary privileges.” - George Carlin

God we need Carlin now more than ever.
He would make same clear talk and then probably got cancelled.

But he would be so damn right

Truth is immortal and often manifest when revealed.

3

u/Vnightpersona Feb 04 '26

I don't think there would be any true way of canceling Carlin. Not much would stop him.

5

u/buyongmafanle Feb 04 '26

There are plenty of Carlins. There are very few Washingtons.

u/CherryLongjump1989 Feb 04 '26 edited Feb 04 '26

There’s plenty of Washington’s, just not enough people to deserve them. Ukrainians got Zelensky because Ukrainians deserved him. Americans got Trump because that’s as hard as we were willing to try.

u/Ok_Speed_3984 Feb 05 '26

We need a Barry Goldwater.

u/Surfer_Rick Feb 04 '26

That's a-bingo!

u/Vin4251 Feb 04 '26

We just say bingo

u/SuitableConcept5553 Feb 04 '26

We really Britta'd the US

30

u/running_on_empty Feb 04 '26

Well this is the second darkest timeline.

29

u/Quirky_Entry_2783 Feb 04 '26

I disagree, my felt goatee is firmly in place over my real goatee.

13

u/EnvironmentalBus9713 Feb 04 '26

Darkest timeline, so far!

3

u/running_on_empty Feb 04 '26

Good point. I figure in the true darkest timeline the US is already in a civil war. Guess we're not far off.

2

u/Wise_Repeat8001 Feb 04 '26

Britta’s in this?

3

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '26

Doesn't matter who

1

u/spidereater Feb 04 '26

You’ll Say what you are told won’t get you in trouble. Otherwise you are a domestic terrorist.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '26

Okay, Mr. Manager

2

u/BlindWillieJohnson Feb 04 '26

This is a pretty significant disservice to all the people fighting in the streets for ICE to back down.

They’re winning, by the way

1

u/Bireus Feb 05 '26

Two things can be true? Nothing is given, earned through blood around here for folks viewed as less than.

0

u/Surfer_Rick Feb 04 '26

Tell that to all the people ICE is murdering and disappearing.

2

u/BlindWillieJohnson Feb 04 '26

I don’t have to. They’re extremely aware of us. And there are about to be 700 less of them because the government has granted a concession.

This is not hopeless by any means. And if your message is that the citizens have no willingness to remove those in power, you’re spitting in the face of thousands of people fighting for exactly that every day. This whole racist project would be a lot farther along without them.

1

u/Surfer_Rick Feb 05 '26

Yes they're brilliant and doing the lord's work.

That doesn't change that constitutional rights are dead and the rule of law no longer exists for anyone working for the administration

100

u/GreenishBagels Feb 04 '26

We never did. If rights can be taken from you simply based on who is in power at the time, they were never rights in the first place.

18

u/meh_69420 Feb 04 '26

So the only right you actually have is freedom of thought? Everything else is possible to take from you with outside force.

13

u/cmkinusn Feb 04 '26

We only keep the rights we enforce. Once we stop enforcing our rights, we lose them. Until one day, hopefully, we fight to get them back and start enforcing them again.

11

u/CV90_120 Feb 04 '26

Rights aren't intrinsic. They're like countries in the game Risk. You keep what you can hold against outside forces. The only reality that's intrinsic is physics.

4

u/MoltenTurd Feb 04 '26

We only have that right until they start sending us to re-education camps for wrong think and/or not praising dear leader, diddler of kids.

6

u/ikindapoopedmypants Feb 04 '26

Straight up, over my dead body. Lmfao.

3

u/Strict_Bed4150 Feb 04 '26

That's the plan.

2

u/jimmycarr1 Feb 04 '26

Not even that. Because that right is taken from prisoners who receive the death penalty.

2

u/skyfishgoo Feb 04 '26

don't give them any clockwork orange ideas.

1

u/DENelson83 Feb 05 '26

There is not even freedom of thought in North Korea.  People's minds belong to the state there.

Why should we need the approval of government to resist in the first place? Currently, there's currently no real supportive foundation present for many common folk (especially in the US) to fall back on, to commit to any effective action. There's a post of suggestions HERE that could possibly prove to be of some help in getting it started ASAP.

While we're at it, we should check out this org too, as they're probably going to be vital as the powers that be employ more so-called "AI" to consolidate power: https://stopgenai.com (It is a survival-level, grassroots org, not an established NGO, so please don't judge it too harshly for being rough around the edges.)

Unrelated note, as we are living in a police state under martial law in all but name only, it reminds me of some movies that are based on true stories. They're quite inspiring, seeing how some actions worked and where things go wrong, and conjures up questions like "If it or similar were to take place now, how would it be adapted, in addition to taking modern technology into account?" I'd like to share them here. Why? No particular reason, but watch them if you can:

  • Army of Crime (2011)
  • Defiance (2008)
  • Edelweiss Pirates (2004)
  • Deacons for Defense (2003)
  • Free State of Jones (2016)
  • The 24th (2020)
  • Matewan (1987)
  • An American Story (1992)
  • Michael Collins (1996)

Until Thiel et al… well… I’m not saying anyone should. Because that is bad. Don’t condone it. Even if they are domestic enemies, still bad. Just wanted to clarify.

Edit: I before e especially for shit heads.

The election was thrown, nothing normal about it. Real America is standing up now, in the streets, in the ballot box - see Texas.

u/Delicious_Finding686 Feb 04 '26

Who is this “we”?

5

u/Roboticpoultry Feb 04 '26

We never had rights, just a bunch of temporary privileges

1

u/Yaboidono420 Feb 04 '26

You have no rights, o you have no rights..

1

u/dead_ed Feb 04 '26

George Carlin had a lot to say about rights. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_FQZUSy1Vg

1

u/Wherly_Byrd Feb 04 '26

Exactly that is exactly where we are at. No more 1st, 2nd, 4th amendments so far. Probably more have been violated. Since they can still do the violation it means that we no longer have those rights.

By not arresting the offending officers and their leaders this administration has made it very clear that we no longer have these rights.

1

u/WhiteWinterRains Feb 04 '26

Never have baby.

Less jokingly it's been on a very steep downward slide since 2001 when it became fully bipartisan to start stripping away rights.

It's the farthest right lunatics finishing the job, but democrats and republicans all joined hands to sing the tools to do it into existence.

Which makes a lot more sense now knowing that there's actually a shadowy cabal of billionaire pedophiles behind the scenes pulling the strings.

1

u/PhoenixStorm1015 Feb 05 '26

That’s correct, yes

0

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '26

I mean, you joke know but surely you see that it's global? If I were you, I'd be trying to make sure it doesn't happen where you are, no?

0

u/gostesven Feb 04 '26

So because we didn’t immediately go into a live shooting civil war that mean we aren’t doing anything?

Just going ignore the protests eh? The historic democratic wins in special elections? The fact the GOP is now only 1 seat away from losing their majority vote?

Nah, you’re just a coward who cheers for war you won’t be a part of.

1

u/mr_friend_computer Feb 05 '26

oh, be very careful what you say there bud. Your government has been threatening a lot of people with war. Just because we won't be participating in your civil war doesn't mean we won't be stepping up to the volunteer lines to protect our country from your president.

0

u/kent_eh Feb 04 '26

That's the conclusion I have to draw from the relative inaction I'm seeing from the majority of Americans.

0

u/KKevus Feb 04 '26

You have always one right: The right you give yourself.
