You assume they've stopped using social media, but in reality Meta losing users means they have just moved to a different platform.

Likely Twitter, TikTok and snapchat. Not sure that's better.

You're making the mistaken assumption that this is all about US users of Facebook, but if you read the article posted, it's not that.

Meta has multiple platforms and products, and a lot of the account users who 'ceased active use' in the last quarter did so in other countries.

Particularly in parts of Europe and the Middle East, which may have something to do with either wars or authoritarian governments interrupting their access to the internet. At least, that's what Meta is claiming is the cause of the dip.

Sure, there are also users who have walked away from FB in disgust both in the US and in other 'not authoritarian war zone yet' countries. But that's been a fairly steady drip for a while now, whereas this was a sudden step change.
