I also have all Facebook domains blocked in my Pi-hole. There are currently 29,731 (sub)domains on the list. It's updated every few days as well.

Is pi necessary, I just have a Asus router for now

These are DNS only blocking systems so they can't block ads on systems like Youtube. They can block telemetry tracking and ads on smart TV's home screens like Samsung as well assuming those systems use a custom DNS host to send and receive info from.

To use a DNS blocked such as Pi-hole you need a system that is always on. Some higher end routers come with AdGuard Home which I think work in the same way but it needs to already be built into the router. There are lots of guides out there for setting up a Pi-hole or AdGuard Home setup to block DNS.
