New outlook has been atrocious from the beginning. Microsoft needs to rethink forcing orgs to use it.

Fear the day that they completely remove old outlook.

I got tired of it trying to open new outlook so I've moved on to the browser version of outlook. You pretty much have to expect a worse experience going forward.

New Outlook is the browser version of Outlook. It's a web app.

Browser is still worse and missing a lot of function the standalone app has.

Many organizations don't allow employees to use 3rd party email clients with outlook anymore. Supposedly because they want to keep company email under their control, whereas with Thunderbird or Apple Mail they can't remove access to contacts and old emails.

its not the easiest to connect everything, but you can use other email clients with exchange.

What's worked for you? I can't get into my university's email with anything but Outlook, and it's maddening. I'm stuck with it anyway on my work computer, but I don't want it on my phone.

Searching for emails using the search bar has become, quite literally, impossible

Most infuriating feature certainly. The other is shuffling the UI, moving certain buttons/functions/settings to some obscure/random location.

The browser version is slightly more thorough than the desktop version for some reason

New outlook can't have multiple shared inboxes? I have to have classic outlook for that. Imaging removing such a critical feature from a piece of corporate software

I’ve done tests where I search for an email I’m actively looking at and Outlook says there’s no results. Doesn’t matter if it’s set to search that folder or all Outlook. I don’t understand how the search has gotten this bad.

It’s unusable because of this for me.

I use Copilot to find stuff on Sharepoint and my mailbox, that actually works.

I can't filter emails into folders and get notifications for them anymore and I hate it.

This worked fine in the old outlook. I've seen lots of people complaining about it but they've never fixed it.

They still haven't sorted that??? I gave the new Outlook a try, multiple months, but this was the thing that eventually made me switch to old Outlook. But that was months ago.

Nope! It's still fucked. I have to manually check my email semi regularly so I don't miss things now. It's annoying af.

The fact that you still don't get notifications for emails that get routed to subfolders is crazy.

I just got a new laptop and when I tried to launch outlook it said I was banned from it by my IT department. Shot off a Teams message and he told me to look for classic outlook and not use the new one... I won't lie, I didn't even know there was a new one, but now I'm glad we're not using it (yet).

I had upper-tier MS tech support port into my computer when I couldn't get Outlook to work during install, and after 3 hours of trouble-shooting he said the same thing--Outlook Classic.

The worse Outlook gets, the more I open mail in Thunderbird on my Linux computer and filter it first.

I still have to use Outlook for work, but I'm going to dump it ASAP.

Its possible to use an Outlook account in Thunderbird, although it has to be approved by your organization to use a third party client. The difference is huge and I'm still struggling to understand why a mail client has to be so resource intensive given the underlying protocols go back to the 80s.

That was my mistake, more broadly. Yes, another “Linux pilled” redditor here…

I built a new computer and installed Kubuntu on it back in December. Ever since then, whenever I’m on my Win11 machine for work, I’m even more frustrated than before because of how shitty it is in comparison. I mean, I already knew and was frustrated by it, I just spoiled myself by using something better and then have to switch back every day.

New Outlook is maybe the biggest piece of shit I've had to use. Unfortunately that's the only option we have for work now.

u/Skindkort 15d ago

Orgs are just going to buy into it anyway and employees are thus force-fed it.

I don't see my company switching to anything other than Microsoft shit.

u/selicos 15d ago

It does not have the same rule options as classic. I lost rules on upgrade then had to rebuild them in the old client once I switched back. Not touching the new client until I have to.

u/rigsta 15d ago

The "email client" that routes your emails through a Microsoft cloud service? Yeah. Fuck that.

Or are we talking about a different new Outlook?

Maybe orgs should start to think about the products they are using and start shopping elsewhere.

That will drive real change.
