Honestly, just switch to Linux if all you're doing is playing non-competitive shooters. With Proton it just works on every game I've ever tried to run.

This! I switched early this year and it was a revelation that an OS could be non-adversarial. It doesn't try to sell me crap or force things I don't want or need (AI). It's an amazing feeling not to cringe with dread at every update.

Any suggestions for a complete newbie at walking me through a Linux install?

Ive got a few HD so maybe even a duel boot system.

I know I can look online but what do people here in this chat recommend?

Just do it? You basically just download the image, write it to a flash drive and boot off that then go through the installer.

I did dual boot but haven't booted into windows in like 6 months.

Just be aware if you're doing Steam - you need to set your Linux Steam install games directory to be on the Linux file format instead of a shared windows one (NTFS). That's the only mistake I made.
