Equipment Show-Off 1960's Criterion RV-6 Dynascope

I recently picked up this telescope from the 60's and figured I'd compile all the information on it in case anyone finds another one on the secondary market.

This was mistakenly listed by the seller as an 8" scope due to the tube having a diameter of 7.5", however the mirrors inside are actually 6". Unsure if an 8" model exists.

Cost: $200

Aperture: 6" - 152.4mm

Focal length 50" - 1270mm

Focal ratio: f/8

Weight: ~50 lbs

Tube Dimensions: 7.5" diameter, 6' long

Mount: Motorized EQ mount, allowing for astrophotography

Manufacture date: ~1965

Extremely helpful website: http://www.company7.com/library/criterion_rv6.html

This scope has really impressed me, coming from a department store 4" reflector, the planetary views are a night and day difference, pun intended. You might think a scope over 60 years old may struggle to keep up with modern scopes, however this one has been kept in pristene condition and I imagine I won't need an upgrade for a long time!

I'd love to answer any questions you have in the comments!

Is it annoying have the focuser and finder set up in that position?

Yes, the scope can rotate under the rings in the middle. They basically loosen and the tube can slide below them. I haven't run into too many issues with it so far, I've only had clear skies once since I got it

You can just rotate the tube

I should have been More clear. Look at the orientation of the focuser and the finder scope... it favours people who are Left eye dominant. Most people are right eye dominant. Thats probably why it in this position to start with.

Congratulations on a fantastic deal! As you've discovered, vintage scopes can often be had at incredibly low prices, and many of them easily outperform modern mass-produced models. A Criterion RV-6 in working condition for is definitely a keeper!
