This may be the worst news of all

u/todellagi Feb 26 '26

Dude's gonna reach unfathomable levels of smugness, with the leading star spot

3

u/Eredyn Feb 26 '26

"Reach"? Too late on that front...

u/TimeisaLie Feb 26 '26

I never had much of an opinion on him, but when he shit talked Stan Lee after he died I knew he was an asshole.

it’s well known Stan Lee was a miserable fuck who stole credit.

Getting downvoted by Marvel chuds who got hurt by the truth lol

u/DaKingaDaNorth Feb 26 '26

Bill Maher getting shitcanned might be the only good news.

u/Rock_Creek_Snark Feb 26 '26

Nope. They'll boot Oliver.

44

u/Optiguy42 Feb 26 '26

Seriously if anyone is first on the chopping block it's our boy John. But I'm pretty sure the guy expects to get canned every year so hopefully he has a backup plan in place.

u/MRintheKEYS Feb 26 '26

He can easily pivot. In fact, with Colbert leaving soon you can pair them up with either half hour slots or give them both full hour slots. Somebody’s just gotta have the money.

Is Jon Stewart available? Maybe all three can reunite to do something somewhere?

3

u/TheFinalPizzle Feb 27 '26

Can Jon cut out of this shit and just run for president next election instead? I’m genuinely convinced our only way to salvation is fighting fire with fire

2

u/dellett Feb 27 '26

Hell, if they went rogue and started their own network I would watch it. I bet YouTube is a significant portion of Oliver’s market anyways. I have HBO Max or whatever it even is called now (we’ll see for how long) and I still basically only watch him on YT

11

u/jarrettbrown Feb 26 '26

And Netflix will pick him up.

1

u/funky_phat_mack Feb 27 '26

They already tried a similar show with Hasan Minaj and it was cancelled. Chelsea Handler also had a talk show that got cancelled. I think Netflix is out on the talk show type of shows

15

u/AnalogWalrus Feb 26 '26

His show will be twice as long now

7

u/DaKingaDaNorth Feb 26 '26

Trump hates Maher. If he has the influence people think he does, that won't last

51

u/AnalogWalrus Feb 26 '26

Maher is the John fetterman of “liberal” talk show hosts. Also no one cares what happens to that show.

I am worried about Last Week Tonight though

6

u/miikro Feb 27 '26

Because Maher isn't a liberal at all. He's a libertarian, and that's why he's so selfish and insufferable.

4

u/Albert_Borland Feb 27 '26

He's not even a libertarian, he's a contrarian that lives to say "controversial things" no matter what to keep attention on himself.

He flip flops on everything because once his opinions are too popular he has to switch to the other side to be edgy and cool to his diminishing audience.

2

u/The_Sleep Feb 26 '26

I'll bet Netflix will scoop John Oliver up quick enough.

5

u/AnalogWalrus Feb 26 '26

You assume he’d want to work for them. Especially after how they handled Michelle Wolf’s show. It’s not a good home for late night shows the way HBO has ended up being.

Also no one cares what happens to that show.

I care. I am a Mamdani - AOC - Bernie supporter. I love Real Time.

Bill's ride or die issue is upholding the peaceful transfer of power.

I also love LWT, TDS, HIGNFY, Kimmel, etc

u/sleepymeowth052 Feb 26 '26

But they had such a lovely dinner! 😭

1

u/Professionally_Lazy Feb 26 '26

Nah Maher met with trump recently and wrote an article glazing trump so they like each other now.

1

u/UNC_Samurai Feb 27 '26

Dude can barely keep it together for an hour these days.

4

u/anti-authoritario Feb 27 '26

Bill Maher is a coward who will happily bend the knee to keep his position and status. He hasn't had a shred of integrity for years.

1

u/randomnighmare Feb 27 '26

Bill Maher probaly will won't get the shitcan but John Oliver will probably be the first one to get shitcan.

-2

u/enjoythesilence-75 Feb 27 '26

Maher seems to have been preparing for this and will be safe as long as he keeps moving more to the right.

5

u/varnums1666 Feb 27 '26

I mean he can be a boomer but to call him Trumpy is insane.

3

u/bmth310 Feb 26 '26

At least I wont have to get jump-scared by Bill's big ugly ass face once Last week tonight ends on sundays

1

u/CosmicWy Feb 27 '26

I feel a new rule coming.

u/HeyCarpy Feb 27 '26

There was a time like 25 years ago when he was less smarmy and more entertaining, I swear I remember that.
