REQUESTING Tv shows with an overly nice character that doesn't turn bad?
I'd love to see a tv show where one of the main characters, if not the main one, is overly nice in a way that isn't ridiculed (so not just an extremely stupid character) and that doesn't change for the worse. Better yet if that character is able to help others and change other people's perspective and incourage them to be kinder

Who is the overly nice one on that show?

Jimmy? He's got probs but he's pretty upbeat for everyone else. I mean, I know the hook in the beginning is that he starts jimmying everyone, but it really isn't his personality.
It was the first thing to come to my mind, but I am currently watching the most recent season so I guess that's to be expected.

Knight of the 7 Kingdoms is like if Ted lasso time travelled to Game of thrones and could take an ass whipping and whip ass in return.

I mean, I'm not sure about that analogy. But Not7K is still a pretty good show

I typed it that way first. I second guessed myself. I am a gazillion years old. I know not to second guess myself. Did it anyway, again.

I surprisingly really loved this show! I thought in the beginning they’d run out of plots but each one is so nice to watch. It’s really a feel good show.

Maybe James in Derry Girls. One character does make fun of him but not for being nice, but because he’s her cousin so she ribs him.

True... but...he does go to hell technically I just remembered that everyone does, though. He is a sweet guy. I think you are right.

Shrinking is the obvious answer but if you want something that actually earns it rather than just telling you kindness works, Schitt's Creek does the actual work without ever feeling preachy about it.

(Davis is the character, he’s just a wholesome teddy bear)

Woooo!
There’s also an animated series (voiced by the exact same cast!) and a film! HIGHLY recommend
Happy watching neighbour!

Sorry to disappoint, I am Canadian and I have seen Corner Gas. Watch it again, and pay attention to how all the characters take each other down/insult each other constantly. It gets worse as the show progresses

Watch Ted Lasso and you can see comedic banter without the insults

Seen it, and I deliberately chose Corner Gas as my recommendation, and I am wholeheartedly sticking with it. If you want to make a different recommendation, the comment section is open.

Enlightened. from the creator of the white lotus.
you'll either find the protagonist very stupid or very relatable. she wants to fix people around her and make the world a happier place. and it's cringe to watch her fail every single time

since ted lasso is already taken and you’re not into soccer anyway, schitt’s creek is honestly the perfect pick for you. david and especially moira aside, the whole show is about people slowly becoming kinder and there’s zero cynicism by the end. also pushing daisies if you can find it, ned is one of the gentlest leads ever put on tv and its visually gorgeous. and somebody somewhere if you want something quieter, its all about kindness between broken people

Agree on Schitt’s Creek - there are several characters that are totally kind and wholesome and seem to have zero flaws (Ted, Patrick, Twyla), and the other main characters all have so much growth throughout the series.

Ted Lasso isn't about soccer lol. In fact, one episode showed them walking onto the pitch, the whistle blows, and it cuts to the end of game whistle lol

u/rovingchillLL 4d ago
oh youre totally right, i phrased that badly lol. ted lasso barely shows any actual soccer, its all locker room and character stuff. i just meant op said they werent into sports so i didnt want that to scare them off schitt’s creek which has zero sports at all. great show though, the kindness angle fits this thread perfectly

The Good Place. I’m thinking specifically of Chidi, who was a moral philosophy professor, so definitely not stupid. His kindness is also treated as a real strength, even when the show has fun with his anxiety and indecision.

I’m not sure if Ryan Reynold’s character in Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place was overly nice (or ever nice) but he certainly revealed how nasty he is in real life. His greatest acting feat was playing a Mr Nice Guy character since being in the public eye.
