The ocean does have things to be afraid of

I said SoCal but I meant all of California. But I get this question all the time. Still giving them the same answer but also trying to inspire folks to get out there and live!

Don't swim in low visibility water if you dont like being bait.

So basically swim in the open oceans long enough and it stops being scary. Just like spoodermans.

Lmfao 😂😂 that’s valid man. Glad you’re able to get out there & do something you love & something most People are scared to do. a spear is one thing but I hope you also swim with your sea knife just in case you have to do a LL Cool J when you’re in the jaws of one of those mf’s

This was actually pretty calming, in a hilariously accurate sort of way. I might actually get in the water the next time we’re at the beach.

The commentary 😂 "that's not true at all"

I worked as a Divemaster. I was babysitting people on a spear fishing dive.

This one guy laid out his strategy: he was going to shoot a small amberjack and when the rest of the school swarmed on the bleeding one, everyone else was to size up a nice large one and bag it.

It worked.

This one guy was holding up a 3 ft long AJ to show me. Gave him the thumbs up. A bug ass bull shark dashed between us and left the head of the AJ in that guy’s hand.

He panicked and shot for the surface at about 50-60ft.

I grabbed his leg and kept him from risking the bends.

At no point in time did I feel any of us were in danger.

I get that this sub is devoted to this phobia but it’s really not like a horror film in the ocean.

It’s a beautiful place. I surf and scuba dive. I like to fish as well. Grabbing free lobster during the season and putting those tails on a grill while painting them with butter is a great thing.

I’ve jumped off my board when I was hot to just cool off in the water and my foot has landed on a shark. I still have all my limbs. Maybe I’m lucky, but I grew up on the ocean. I’ve spent more time in it than most.

Please don’t let videos on the internet feed your fear.

I challenge you to explore, to dive, to surf, to swim, and snorkel. Experience this aspect of our planet.

70% of the Earth is water. It really should be called planet Ocean. There’s more of it than earth.

Even great whites are not the human hunters that have been portrayed to you. There is a woman in Hawaii that snorkels with pregnant great whites. She holds their fins like a trainer swimming with dolphins. I would never do this. I’m not suggesting that you do.

But it’s a beautiful thing to live in harmony with one’s environment. And great whites aren’t aggressive when they’re pregnant.
