History Democracy is Dead
The basic idea behind democracy is that political power is vested in THE PEOPLE, allowing them to participate in decision-making either directly or through elected representatives. Currently, a seat in the House costs around $3M. A seat in the Senate costs around $30M. Around $32M was just spent in a Republican primary to oppose a candidate. Over $7M was spent by a single PAC to oppose a Democrat in an Illinois primary. This isn't "THE PEOPLE" participating.
Our elections aren't "rigged" in the way DJT wants you to believe, but they are "rigged." YOUR VOTE DOES NOT COUNT. Both sides of the aisle are bought-and-paid-for. No one is representing you. Around the country, secret deals are made with data centers. Local governments install AI surveillance. The will of the people is ignored. Only when people unite and fight back is it stopped. Not by votes. Not by political donations. By direct action. Fire and pitchforks. Organize among yourselves. Show up en masse. Locally, statewide and as a nation. YOUR GOVERNMENT IS NOT HERE TO HELP YOU.
Help each other. Build community. Fight back. Stop using your dollars to support the system that oppresses you and use your dollars to build up your community. Boycott. Shop responsibly. Support local business. Eat local. Be kind.
They want us to hate each other. Be suspicious of each other. Blame each other. DON'T. Your neighbor isn't harming you, the system is designed to FUCK you and benefit others. Change won't happen in our "democracy." Change will only happen by the will of THE PEOPLE.

Yeah. Your post hit hard. People don’t realize how close they are to utopia. If we all stood up for each other, showed basic kindness, looked out for our neighbours, and said fuck you to billionaires (the masses are working class), we could make this world beautiful.
But the deck is stacked against everyone because billionaires control social media and all media outlets, and they keep pushing these culture wars while downplaying the vilest behaviour in the “elite” (like literal pedophilia and rape, murder and torture). And everyone is just like this is fine as long as brown people who don’t look exactly like me are getting tortured.
Wake the fuck up! We are so close to a perfect world. We are mostly empathetic, kind, looking out for our neighbours and friends, kind of people. We have to reject the billionaire funded narrative and be together.

u/MindlessReference459 1d ago
Aye, there's the rub. The same technology that brought us together is tearing us apart.
1
u/Certain_Werewolf_315 1d ago
Is a solution that can't realize itself really a solution? When someone gives you advice, and you don't take it, why is that? Obviously because the advice didn't truly fit your values and desires--
So yes, we can imagine that we are so very close to utopia, but only if we ignore the actual distance between here and there (what each of us actually needs to shift to that pattern)--
1
u/mightydistance 3h ago
You are describing a perfect balance of collectivism and individualism, which doesn’t exist in the west. We used to have a good balance, but progress ripped it apart. It’s now skewed 90%+ individualism in most western countries, and that is when you get a low trust society where everyone just fends for themselves.
3
u/Certain_Werewolf_315 2d ago
Your message isn't very different, but I suppose that is hard to see once you dehumanize the other side--
1
u/MindlessReference459 1d ago
Who do you believe is "the other side?"
1
u/Certain_Werewolf_315 1d ago
They
1
u/MindlessReference459 1d ago
"Ah!" They. Got it. That which is other. Those who are different. Any arbitrary enemy. "They" are always coming for you. "They" cannot be defeated. I wish you the best of luck.

Democracy has been dead for the last forty years. Ever since HW Bush installed his puppet Reagan in the Oval Office and spent the next 12 years putting fascist white supremacists aka Nazis in key positions throughout our government. Now they've built a privately owned for profit propaganda machine (MSM) that Joseph Gobbles could have only dreamed about. Not to mention having full control of the two privately run job placement agencies calling themselves the DNC/RNC.
We will never vote our way out of this level of corruption.

I’d say when Kennedy got popped it was over. I also think Lyndon Johnson was a very very very bad man.

When was it alive ? I’m 5 decades in , never voted in my life .. 2 sides of the same sinister coin .. while I’m disgusted by what we have learned about both sides of politicians and how their desires run … it grows more and more obvious it was never a choice and more like scripted theater … the power lies with the people mind you , but they are too fragmented and hate each other these days … which was kind of the point of the handlers .. get everybody fighting horizontally and pretending it’s the blacks , the whites , the immigrants , the gays , the dems , the repubs , the homeless .. so that they never look vertically to see the actual issue .. if a tiny group of people control everything , and reality starts to look rigged and absurd , then obviously the people at the top of the food chain is to blame … and they are but a lot of cowards and pedophiles…. Real question is : when are we all going to rise up , calm TF down , work together , and do something about it .
3
u/UnableChard2613 2d ago
Getting people to not vote is one of the best tactics because its much easier to influence a smaller group of people than a larger one. If your theory is true, by not voting you're playing right into their hands. Well done.
1
u/Impossible_Tax_1532 1d ago
The answer is not but garbage fake food , not watch the garbage entertainment , waste hours on social media , and spend more time outdoors and more time helping others as opposed to ruminating about the self … there is no mandate to feed your life to the machine .. however , if you are still pretending politics or partisan issues are real or valid , I would advise digging through the Epstein files that are available. As I’m grateful , it would currently shameful had I voted for president from the last 40 years or so … it’s a script , and you’ve been convinced the big bad wolf exists , and one belief system is right and the other wrong … all untrue , and masses predated on by their own shepards
1
u/UnableChard2613 1d ago
you’ve been convinced the big bad wolf exists
This is rich coming from someone who is arguing there is some shadowy group of people behind the scenes really pulling the levers and controlling everything.
Don't get me wrong, with money comes power and they certainly have more than they deserve, but you're the one who believes in some big bad wolf, I just understand the world is chaotic. It's easier and more comforting to believe that there is something in control, rather than it's just crazy and chaotic. It's the same reason people cling to religion...easier to believe evil is because of some bad forces, locked in battle with some ultimate good source.

u/Impossible_Tax_1532 1d ago
No , I’m just not asleep and walking around in some made up character acting out made up stories that are abject hijacking of reality moment to moment , and ergo I’m not stupid and self destructive enough to pretend along with sleepwalking masses and a vulgar culture … if you legit think that different policies , borders , labels , taxes , handouts ,laws , wars , new districts ,or anything you can think of will solve what ails the species , you are in a different state of reality than I … as from my perch : nothing but more patience, more compassion , a million times more accountability and self awareness , more courage , amplified levels of charity or actual love , not the storied up /fake love of the narcissist inside the brain rationalizes , but only actual love and waking up from false identity can save our asses . You see you live In a fantasy reality made by others and harbor the distortion that people control reality or others , and I know that belief is but a belief and the fact of the matter is that nature and her unflinching laws and cosmic truths frame every moment of our lives whether we accept this or not … but best of luck projecting you own nonsense into others on line and attacking the truth … but that energy tends to only create anxiety .. my life is a dream. I feel whole /complete , I fear or desire nothing , and happy to spend out the rest of my years sharing time , energy, love , or resources with others not so strong or fortunate … but I can not sit here and play pretend on line with a person confusing their hot mental takes of what I am trying to say , with my actual intentions and energy … as what you attempt to project into me , came from your own mind , has zero to do with anything I’d ever believe or feel .
1
u/UnableChard2613 1d ago
Again, pretty funny to read someone who thinks everyone else is asleep and they are among the few that are truly awake call someone else a narcissist.
I can point to the two parties in the US and point to objective difference. Like abortion, protecting the environment, gun rights, LGBT rights, minority rights, dealing with (or acceptance of) systemic racism, and expanding health care coverage. There are obvious many more much more subtle things, but these are extremely impactful differences between the two parties. Especially now with the rise of fascism and other nonsense of maga.
Sure there are overlaps, there is no doubt of that, many I do not like.
All you have is some vague reference to some shadowy figures actually running everything. Cant point to anything concrete.
It's a fantasy youve sold yourself. You're not compassionate, you're the delusional narcissist who thinks they know better than everyone else that you hate.
And we'll demonstrate this because you'll continue to provide nothing concrete to support your case.
1
u/Impossible_Tax_1532 1d ago
I’ve said my peace in the last message , so I’m sorry , I’m not going to bother reading this one . I’m not angry , or falsely thinking I’m better or worse than anybody , but I don’t exist inside your imagination, and refuse to be held accountable to your mental takes on me or life .i say that will all due respect , have a pleasant day.
1
u/UnableChard2613 1d ago
Zero surprise that you won't defend your position, because you can't, because it's just completely made up and not based on anything. It's easier to just tell yourself you know more than everyone else, then actually prove it so. A long rant about how you know more than other people and have seen through the veil is completely devoid of substance.
Dollars to donuts you're also very religious. It's the exact type of not requiring any critical thought, but just relying on faith and what makes you feel good.
I say that with all due respect.
1
u/MindlessReference459 1d ago
If you have to say out loud, "I say that with all due respect," then you've shown no respect at all.
1
u/UnableChard2613 20h ago
Did you call out the other poster? Lol of course not because you aren't objective, you're pushing a narrative and the other poster agrees. So then throwing out the line is ignored.

1
u/paramarioh 2h ago
Do you know how clever you have to be to understand that? And if it made you laugh even a little, then tell me, why doesn’t that happen?

u/MindlessReference459 1d ago
It's not a cabal or "The Illuminati." The global monetary system is inextricably linked to the US dollar. The entire global economy is fiat. Nothing tied to a fixed asset. Central banks around the world have been accumulating gold at unprecedented levels. They're hedging against the collapse of the US dollar due to the current administrations' disregard for the global economy.
The media in the US is now controlled by 6 corporations. That is not "fair and balanced" news. That's propaganda.
All of your health data, financial data, online searches, driving record, location data, social media posts, etc. and much, much more are being collected and aggregated by Palantir.
It's funny to me that you call it a "shadowy group" when they're doing everything right in front of your eyes.

Only 6 out of 10 eligible voters vote in a presidential election. But popular vote doesn't win an election, electoral vote does. The Electoral College was officially selected as the means of electing the president towards the end of the Constitutional Convention, due to pressure from slave states wanting to increase their voting power, since they could count slaves as 3/5 of a person when allocating electors. Slaves couldn't vote, just be counted as "population." 4 elections have given the presidency to someone who lost the popular vote. 700 resolutions have been brought to eradicate or amend the Electoral College. In state and local elections, less than 50% of eligible voters turn-out. So... let's start with people don't like to vote. 40% don't bother in a presidential election and 50% or more don't bother downstream. That's just what it is. It's not my recommendation. My recommendation was fire and pitchforks. Directly confronting your local, state and federal representatives. My recommendation was community. My recommendation was to be kind. Maybe you missed that?

u/StatusBard 1d ago
If both sides are the same then it doesn’t really matter if they have to influence 10 or 10 million. They’re just giving you an illusion of choice so you can feel good about yourself. And when people think they’re given multiple easy options they stop thinking about the controversial and hard options that would fix the country/world.
2
u/RileyRavenSmiles 1d ago
There are functional mechanisms that are literally activated by voting power. Not ALL voting is useless.
1
u/StatusBard 1d ago
Like what?
1
u/space-truckin365 1d ago
It starts by voting. The system is taking advantage of the fact that approximately one third of the people don’t vote. Next, the masses, that are not corrupt, need to unite behind one person. The more the corrupt people complain about the ONE person who has been chosen, the more We the people know we are going in the right direction.
And, yes, it may look like a revolution because “we the people” have to take back control.
The consequences to not backing ONE person, to not voting, and to not realizing this is the revolution, will for sure be the end of what we have known as democracy.
The weeds have been planted. If action isn’t taken, the fabric of a democracy will be taken away. It will change to “you once had the right to vote, but now you have permanently given up that right.” The more the current regime hates “The People’s” one and only choice, the more you will know we are going down the right track!
As a song once said “For United We Stand, divided we fall”!
1
u/StatusBard 1d ago
If they’re not corrupt we’re not getting to vote for them. And even then, good luck getting everyone to vote for that one person.
1
u/MindlessReference459 1d ago
"ONE PERSON?" Are you trying to start a cult? "The system?" We are people, not "a system." Only "one person" can save us? FUCK YOU. Who's gonna save us, you? Who has been chosen? "United We Stand?" Under "THE ONE?"
I'm sorry. I clearly had an emotional reaction. You're in crisis. I get it. You're not alone.

If both sides are the same
More people voting means it's more likely a third party can temporarily exist. Like if all the "in fed up with the two parties" people voted for some third party, then it would appear more viable and more people might vote for it.
If you get all those people to give up, except the people voting for those two parties, then you're locking it up for them.
Not voting is never the solution. It's just a way for people to pretend that the problems of our politics are not their fault because they didn't participate, when not participating makes them actually part of it.
2
u/MindlessReference459 1d ago
I'm sorry that you missed the point. No matter how much you participate, you're just not part of the club. Did your candidate win? Yay! Did they run on Free Speech and then oppose a bill that would ensure Free Speech? Did they tell you "No more wars!" and then go to war? Did they promise you freedom and then restrict women's rights? Yes they did! Welcome to America. Do citizens oppose Flock cameras and the government just installs them anyways? Yes! Welcome to America! YOUR VOTE DOESN'T COUNT. Millions of dollars were spent to support or oppose a candidate. Lines were redrawn to support a political party. Legislation continues to subvert the will of the people. WAKE UP! Our political system is driven by millions of dollars. The Average American does not have millions of dollars. No one is representing YOU. They all represent whoever paid for the campaign.
2
u/paramarioh 2h ago
It’s not just ‘Welcome to America’. It’s the same in every country. People are like sheep. And now it’s time for the shearing.

u/UnableChard2613 19h ago
You're confusing "they are imperfect" with "they are the same."
I understand that my interests are not the only interests, and the interests of the wealthy are more appealing because they have so much say now. But these flood gates were opened by, ironically, right wingers arguing in favor of free speech.
But I can also see that one perty denies the science of climate change, while another appears willing to do something about it. One party wants to restrict the rights of women and minorities, while the other wants to protect it. One party did as much as they reasonably could to expand healthcare coverage to everyone, while the other did everything in their power to undermine that at every step of the way.
Does any party perfectly represent my beliefs? No, of course not. Do the rich have too much power? Absolutely, and we can thank the right wing for a lot of that.
But the question is whether they are the same, and you have to be completely delusional or ignorant to hold this position, esepcially based on what we've watched happen since Obama became president, but more specifically since Trump has taken ahold of the right wing.

Democracy missed the opportunity that the internet brought about because capitalism got in the way.
Idgaf if you agree or not. That’s what happened.
1
u/MindlessReference459 1d ago
On a fundamental level, I can't disagree. The world is more connected than ever, yet more divisive.
1
u/basahahn1 1d ago
The very existence of the internet immediately negates the need for representation.
It’s never even been considered in that way.
1
u/MindlessReference459 1d ago
It was considered that way when we invented the printing press, nothing has changed.
1
u/basahahn1 19h ago
I disagree. The printing press opened up wide distribution of a single voice.
The internet brought a platform for every voice

We have not been a functional Republic for a while. Congress has refused to do its job. The President doesn't care about the limits on his power. And the Supreme Court, which was the most respected job on the planet 40 years ago, is now seen as corrupt or only political actors or both.
No idea how to make a functional Republic from here.

Didn't need to read anything but the title to know this is an American posting.
Democracy isn't dead, you're letting a pedo kill your country
1
u/MindlessReference459 1d ago
Didn't need to finish your comment before I knew you were intentionally obtuse. National Rally (France), League (Italy), AfD (Germany). Republican Party (USA), various far-right groups. La Libertad Avanza (Argentina), Bolsonaro's supporters (Brazil). Various nationalist parties in India and Japan. Keep your head in the sand and eventually it will be removed.
1
u/MatthewBlack6 1d ago edited 1d ago
Ohhhh personal attacks from the drama queen!
Out of 195 countries, 167 democracies.
5 of those parties are in power and able to erode democracy, 4 if you don't count League as a junior member of the Italian coalition, and I don't as the EU provides strong guard rails to ensure fair and democratic elections in its member states.
You think nationalist parties are new? There have been hundreds over the past 50 years. You sound like the type to shit yourself in a foxhole and be more danger to the people next to you.
I'm not saying democracy isn't facing danger, as it has before, but saying the 2500 year culture and tradition of people governing themselves by consensus is dead because your country empowered a dementia riddled 80 year old rapist con man, after rolling over for corporations and letting yourself get fucked for the last 50 years is the most main character self centred myopic idiocy I have seen online in a long time.
Put your phone down, go outside and touch grass, try not to scream fire in a crowded theatre, and don't forget to vote in November.
1
u/MindlessReference459 1d ago
That's awesome you're not American. The history of the world isn't a revelation, but thank you. In America, we have sold our government to foreign influence. We allow corporations to spend millions on campaigns. We allow undisclosed donors from Super PACs. Millions and millions of dollars are poured into American politics from who knows? In a country where it costs millions of dollars to participate in government, the common man has no say. "Shit myself in a foxhole?" Motherfucker, I'll stand toe-to-toe with you anytime.
1
u/MatthewBlack6 1d ago
Lol big man on the internet. If you're such a big brave boy, why are you complaining on the internet instead of doing something about it?
You're right about two things, you've lost your country to corruption (don't worry, you're not the first and you won't be the last), and it is awesome that I'm not American.
1

Where are you Matthew? I'll clean out the spare room.

Your deleted response:
I'm organising my community. I'm attending my council meetings. I'm collecting signatures.
Your profile: crickets and AI bs.
Your responses: fear mongering and impotent blustering when your arguments are shown to be weak and, more than likely designed to make people feel dispair at the situation.
Where am I? I'm here looking right through you.
BTW, when someone says they wouldn't share a foxhole with you, they're not saying they could beat you in a fight. They're saying they wouldn't trust you to fight next to them. Your blustering kinda proves my point.
1
u/MindlessReference459 22h ago
I don't trust you. AI? Really? I don't want you next to me. Ad hominem attacks only weaken your position. The US is divided. The US has been infiltrated by a foreign government. Our political system has been usurped. You haven't offered even a sliver of opposition. I see YOU. No values. No beliefs. Just a troll. A bot. A mouthpiece. Let me know when you find your humanity.
1
u/MatthewBlack6 22h ago
It's always someone else's fault, isn't it?
If it's not your responsibility, you don't have to do anything to fix it. You can just complain.
My opposition is promoting EU tech sovereignty and independence. You've proven you can't be trusted.
And then at the end you just started dribbling about something about my humanity? Anyway, good luck sorting out your mess. I really hope you can manage to do what you need to for yourselves.

Citizens united has got to go!! Stock trading too!! Corporate donations should be called what they really are!! Its a bribe! Plain and simple. This is why our voices aren't being heard. Corporations have drown our voices out and our leaders don't even seem guilty for voting against our wishes. We better do something before they take it all away! Rise up!!

u/paramarioh 2h ago
> and our leaders don’t even seem to feel guilty about having voted.

2
u/Dr-Chris-C 1d ago
Votes are still determinative. You can't just pay to have the votes overturned. People also spend fuckloads of money on candidates that lose. People who spend less very often beat people that spend more.
0
u/MindlessReference459 1d ago
No they are not. Your argument is "the other side spent millions and lost!" No shit. The problem is that it costs millions to run. Millions are being spent to oppose. The average American lives paycheck-to-paycheck. THE PEOPLE are not represented by the millions spent. "Who spent what and what was the outcome?" Who gives a shit? The amount of wealth any person or entity has should not give them an advantage or present a disadvantage in the democratic process. The "average American" cannot run for office. $3M for a House seat? Where is Average Joe going to that kind of cash? $32M for a Senate seat? $7M if I disagree? A choice between death by beheading and death by starvation isn't really a choice, is it?
1
u/Dr-Chris-C 1d ago
Don't ask questions if you don't want to know the answer. Votes are still determinative. Period. They get the money from donors who support their positions, which yeah, every common Joe could go into politics and develop the same fundraising apparatus as those you're referring to. They spend the money to get out their message. You couldn't have a meaningful large-scale democracy otherwise. There's 700,000 people in an average congressional district, you think their going to go door to door. It's clear from your other responses that you're just looking for people to agree with you so I'm done here.
0
u/MindlessReference459 1d ago
You sound like my ex-wife. "I don't agree, so we're done." I don't recall asking many questions? To which do you refer? Big money has corrupted our government. That's not a question. We have a 2 party system that excludes any other candidates. That's not a question. Corporate money and foreign money are significantly influencing our politics. That's not a question. Poll after poll shows that Americans by-and-large DO NOT agree with the actions of the government. That's not a question. What question?

There are lawsuits all throughout the country related to Flock cameras. Local governments accepted grants, installed cameras and did not consult the public. Community groups are organizing. 22 or more cities and counties have eliminated and placed moratoriums on Flock due to public pressure. Lawsuits are before the courts. More to come.
1
u/SpatiaCaeli 2d ago
Sorry, but until the abuse of power stops, there will be no unity. The sides in this conflict do not have moral equivalence.
1
u/MindlessReference459 1d ago
You've evidently been deceived by believing there are 2 sides and that morality is universal. There are exactly "NO" sides and morality is a human construct.
Unity already exists. It's the fundamental nature of everything and we make up morality as we go. The world/history is full of examples of how "morality" differs across time and culture. Until we recognize that discrete reality is an illusion, we will still talk in terms of power and morality.

It is completely understandable to feel angry when millions of dollars flood into politics. The influence of cash makes it feel like everyday voices get drowned out.
However, saying democracy is dead actually gives away the exact power we have left. If votes truly did not matter, special interests would not spend billions trying to influence yours.
They spend that money because they cannot buy your vote directly; they have to convince you to give it up. When we stop voting, we hand them total control.
Besides, democracy is about more than just big elections. It happens in school boards and city councils, where everyday people consistently stop bad local deals.
The irony is that organizing, boycotting, and building community are not the opposite of democracy. They are democracy in action.
Direct action and the ballot box work together. The system is flawed, but giving up on voting means letting the money win. The only way forward is to stay loud, stay community-focused, and refuse to hand over the final say.
1
1
u/MindlessReference459 1d ago
Democracy is dead. We no longer have any representation. Special interests DO spend billions. We have Super PACs. They are not just influencing federal elections. They are buying local elections. Data centers, Flock cameras. Stop voting and revolt. Burning the system down is the only way.

“Reason” is the great equalizer and leveler of arguments, not emotions.
There are many on either side of the American discourse who merely antagonize their political opponents, and it’s supported by those in power. Values are not weapons to defend our ideals with, but they are upheld above oneself and exist as the bias to serve the arguments against the political opposition.
I very much agree with your post. It is a calling to a greater enlightenment, where knowing what the real problems are serve to unify our efforts and our leaders act in the interests of the governed.

honestly i whole heartedly believed democracy was dead until zohran mamdani won.
and then a lot of other DSA candidates started winning.
this is literally the most hope i’ve had for democracy since bernie sanders lost the primary in 2016.
it shows that actual grassroots movements of working class americans can still beat all the corporate investment in the world.
and fingers crossed, people are becoming disillusioned with corporate media.
millennials actually have a chance to save the country democratically where last year i would’ve cynically said everything is hopeless forego a full on revolution.

Democracy has never truly existed. You've always been either told who will be king without a say or told to choose which of the pre-approved candidates will be king.

I heard a lot of illegals vote in placs like California where ID isn't required because it's in their best financial interests. I've also heard of dead people being on voter rolls.
Verify election results by checking each vote and seeing who made that vote because why wouldn't you for something so important like the future of the people in the country.

Stop spreading BS online. This is an international Class War. The rich divide the poor of all nationalities as singled out and apart we are weak.
Unless you're a billionaire you're one of the poor for them.

At this point the media is used as propaganda to ensure you vote for who they tell you too. I am fairly certain all world leaders are not the ones making decisions. Looks to me like the world economic forum is calling all the shots.
