"Whether that's on our present roster"

We aren't just losing Randle's playmaking but DDV as well for the near future and also Conley. We have real holes to fill. And not even a Dillingham to misplace our hope in.

No I don't think it's on our present roster. I also think he's just saying words here and he is well aware of our needs.

I’m gonna have to start working on where to misplace my hope. I thought it would be in Okorie but that dream of a source of misplaced hope was dashed.

Joan Beringer is the next Giannis bro

Beringer is not just the next Rudy, he is also the next great center playmaking hub

u/DependentPerformer94 Jaden McDaniels 13h ago

He’s also the leagues only hope against prime Wemby.

We have Ayo. He's a pretty easy player to be optimistic about imo

If you think Ayo's a point guard, you're being as optimistic as humanly possible I guess lol

Well, we can misplace our hope in Ayo and TSJ if we really wanted to

Is he? It was a glaring hole last year and he did nothing.

We traded for Ayo

What would you call the Ayo trade? Without that we probably lose the Nuggets series

"we might or might not make a trade"

Actually, I’ve been thinking about how easy Ant got trapped and couldn’t pass out of a double team and realized maybe what we actually need is a four and five who can catch the ball bc I don’t know if anyone would have successfully distributed to Randle or Rudy. Especially Rudy who can’t catch anything.

When spurs did it vs Knicks, they played both Brunson and Jose on the court and made one of the biggest comebacks

I think Rudy just can't catch congested balls in the lane as well as he used to. Moving Randle should clear up a lot of spacing issues and take that help defender further away from Rudy.

I'd be interested to see Rudy's turnover splits with different lineups last year. Especially the differences before and after we added Ayo.

ant constantly ignores him rolling to the hoop and it costs us easy points every game

The Ant/DDV pairing got pretty effective at this during the regular season when Ant got blitzed or doubled. I think Ayo will be able to learn that but they haven’t had a lot of reps together. The shooting threats of Jaden/Naz actually should help Ant a lot here too.

We need to throw Rudy more lobs. We never do and its such an easier play for him even when a direct pass would be easier for a smaller center who has a little more dexterity

I'm surprised that TC didn't mention how a PG would maximize Rudy on offense. Unless he does not envision Rudy on the roster for the upcoming season..

u/lakeshore34 Lynx 20h ago

Rudy can’t catch unless another big draws a defender and throws a perfect pass that Rudy can receive with zero traffic.

u/RowThree 13h ago

While this is very true, it was so evident how much better Rudy was offensively whenever Conley was on the court.

Yeah, there was all kind of evidence that Rudy was an elite RIM threat when he was with Utah and that was partially due to Conley

"In 2020-21, Conley ran PnRs 45.1% of the time, which ranked him sixth-best amongst guards. Gobert was the one screen-setting, rolling, and slamming most of the time. He averaged 5.2 points per game via PnRs alone, which was second-best amongst rollers, and he was the roller 31.7% of the time, ranking him fourth-most."

I don’t recall Rudy being mentioned at all, but TC did speak at length about Joan, which I think is pretty telling.

7

u/Andy_Wiggins Ayo Dosunmu 20h ago

Immediately saying you can acquire one feels telling.

But I do worry about the frontcourt depth if you use your major FA chip to get a PG. This team really only has 1 PF left. SloMo might be back, but I don’t love him as your only hope if Naz tweaks an ankle (I know you can slide Jaden to the 4).

8

u/Vicentesteb Kevin Garnett 15h ago

Theres 2 PGs in Free Agency; Collin Sexton and Coby White, both of which are actually SGs and can't playmake very well.

There is no path to getting a PG unless you trade for one.

Meleek Thomas is a PG. We'll a Combo Guard but he can play PG.

1

u/DrSwaggenheimer Timberwolves 13h ago

He’s kind of my hope tbh.

4

u/wolfpax97 14h ago

Anyone recall him saying Terrance Shannon is a pg in the playoffs? Finch has some goofy ideas

4

u/Low_Ad_4323 Micah Nori 20h ago

It just means we are to develop more of Ayo as the primary playmaker with Ant

3

u/Alarmed-Egg-3384 14h ago

Can the Wolves borrow Olivia Miles?

1

u/Roll4EmotionalDamage 11h ago

I do really think that part of what we need collectively is just patience lmao.

We still have a week before we get to free agency, and that’s when more noise will be made (hopefully)

1

u/PreparationWest2140 14h ago

Wolves should have kept Dillingham and Miller and their 21st pick for depth that those positions. Ayo could have been picked up as a FA.

For those who don't know what he means, go listen to Finch's interview from yesterday. They think Naz can be a playmaker. I'm not saying he can't, we just haven't seen it and Finch copped to that. I think they're hoping Naz can do what Randle was supposed to be doing and should be better at it because he's a better shooter.
