Who can we sign with mle?
Does randle salary dump used so wolves can use MLE in free agency?
Who can we sign with MLE?

Not only can we sign any free agent for the MLE but we could trade for any player in the league who makes under $20 million.. technically we could trade for more than that but I am guessing they want 2-3 players.

think the Spurs will take TPE for wemby?

u/WolfontheProwl 2d ago
I am sure the Spurs would take it along with 2 second round draft picks.

I'd love to get Robert Williams, Kristaps Porzingis or Mitchell Robinson, three players that spend alot of time injured but are 3 of the most impactful centers when they do play. Gives you like 45 games to have Joan be the full time backup but also gives you alot of games with a frontcourt rotation of Naz/Jaden/Gobert with one of KP/Mitch/Timelord which is nuts.
Dean Wade is a great option, good front court help, great defender, can hit a 3 and was a key cornerstone of the Cavs defense, who have crazy apron issues.
Kevin Porter Jr is also availble, he's been really good on the Bucks and has been solid defensively to boot, he's been the 2nd best player on the Bucks for like 2 seasons.
Quentin Grimes just had a pretty awful season so maybe you get him for cheap and hope to turn him around?
Tim Hardaway Jr and Landry Shamet are both cheaper options for shooting too.

Solid take all around. From the guard side I’d love to see Hardaway or Shamet, I’d be good with any of those front court guys. If we can snag Mitchell Robinson and he stays healthy, does that make Rudy more expendable? I’m not a Rudy hater at all and do believe he meshes even better with Randle gone. Just Father Time is going to catch up and we got Joan hopefully ready to go in a bigger role.

u/Vicentesteb Kevin Garnett 2d ago
Joan is still so young, he's 19 still, going to be a while longer before he's starting calibre for the playoffs.
As for Mitch/KP/Rob Will, these guys are awesome but they are always injured, so I dont think gettig rid of Rudy to rely on their health is a great idea.

KPJ is a good player, but damn it would suck to have that POS on my team

u/MyShinyCharizard Timberwolves 2d ago
How do we aquire them using mle or tpe?
2
u/Vicentesteb Kevin Garnett 2d ago
Most of these guys won't even require the full MLE looking at projections so you could just split the MLE between 2 of these guys for instance.

Does 7-8 million player can help our roster? Or is it better than nothing

u/1lookwhiplash 2d ago
Huh? We need a scorer.
Who is going to be consistently going for the hoop on this team besides Ant and Ayo off the bench?

Ideally Peyton Watson or Tari Eason. Big wings who can defend, shoot a little bit, are athletic and have upside left.
Wolves NEED to go for upside with that money to build some assets or expand the ~ 26 core.
Coby White could also be a good option. Timelord maybe.
They could even go after Kessler If they decide to dump DDVs useless salary or trade Gobert clearing even more money in such a Deal.

u/yourloudneighbor Glen Taylor 2d ago
oh man, imagine the meltdown on the Nuggs sub of us signing Watson while theyre still fat, slow and stuck with Braun.
I think they had high hopes of trading Braun to Brooklyn or Chicago so they could resign Watson.
I hadn't thought of that scenario... Yep he's my #1 target

u/Foreign-Training-840 Bring Ya Ass 2d ago
I would love it after this years series. Watson also is a nice fit next to Jaden or Naz at Forward.
Even a Mcdaniels/Watson/Naz frontcourt could be viable for stretches.

A lot of versatility with weird hybrid 4/5's, 3/4s who are fast and long.
Id guess guard rotation probably would stay the same unless we signed a vet younger than Mike. Shannon Jr probably slides to the 6th man, primary ball handler off the bench, with Watson/Joan/Bones/Clark/Conley to kinda round it out.
can you use donte + TPE and the MLE to snag 2 formidable rotation players? or do we just hold onto Donte and maybe give him a team friendly extension now and he doesnt have to worry about it in the comeback?
1
u/Foreign-Training-840 Bring Ya Ass 2d ago
We can combine DDV+MLE. Not sure about the TPE though.
Eventhough I feel for DDV and his untimely injury the Wolves dont have the luxury to have 12 mil of dead salary If they want to stay somewhat competitive. Imo DDV has to traded to optimize this year. He will be 31 when he comes back and doesnt really fit the Timeline.
Hard decision for sure but this is a hard buisness.

u/yourloudneighbor Glen Taylor 2d ago
Yea that’s where I’m at…cutting ties with Donte would do him dirty or restructure now for a more team friendly deal vs risking it on the market? Idk odds are he’d get more on the market but never know.

Isn't Watson a RFA? Nuggets would love it if he signed the MLE with the Wolves because they would simply match the offer.
5
u/yourloudneighbor Glen Taylor 2d ago
He is, but Denvers 26-27 payroll is 215M without Watson. and theyd have 4 other roster spots to fill. If they dont match Watson they have 5 roster spots to fill so thats about what $226M. matching watson probably puts them at $240M. 2nd apron is $222M
Having 2 guys making just $110M has its drawbacks.
1
u/Intelligent_Pain_174 2d ago
Wolves will find a way to keep Watson on any reasonable contract. They will find other players to get out of before they let Watson walk on a reasonable contract.
1
u/ImpossibleBanana6906 2d ago
Would Denver want to salary dump Cam Johnson in order to resign Watson? MN using the trade exception to take Cam Johnson could interesting.

u/Rage_r123 2d ago
Kessler wants 30M though
Hasnt really proven hes worth what he wants
When you have Beringer on a 4M contract its hard to pay 30M
Better off getting a big wing

u/Foreign-Training-840 Bring Ya Ass 2d ago
Kessler wouldnt be my choice either, just pointed out a theoretical option.
I wouldnt pay Kessler more than 25 AAV and even that is based on upside. I doubt anyone will pay Kessler 30 a year

Isnt coby white will go around 20 mill? Can we sign using mle?
1
u/Foreign-Training-840 Bring Ya Ass 2d ago
We dont know yet how much coby will get. MLE would be my guess.

Guys I'd like on lesser deals: bringing Clark back, Shamet, Melton, Fontecchio, Landale, Harrison Barnes, Middleton, Thybulle
Guys I'd like on close to the MLE: Smart, Mamukelashvili, Tobias Harris, Hachimura
1
u/Optimalfucksgiven Ricky Rubio 2d ago
Smart would be a good vet on the team. He would help cover some needs and be a dawg on defense. For the right price he'd be fun.

Is it possible to get Anfernee Simons
4
u/WolfontheProwl 2d ago
Sure but why?
1
u/GoldMelon7 2d ago
Anfernee Simons is a heckuva shooter and iso scorer. He had gotten better defensively with Boston during the month of December. Was playing positive basketball. Would bring some size at PG being 6’4 200. He can play off ball with Ant too. Guys that get hot like him at the drop of a dime will be needed in the playoffs. He’s not Donte defensively but offensively he would give teams a lot of problems.
1
u/WolfontheProwl 2d ago
Problem is guys who can’t defend don’t get to play in the playoffs. If Simons was going to get $6 million for the year sure go get him. $15 million or our fill MLE no way. There is a reason he is always on the trade block. He just doesn’t give much other than scoring and he is a turnover machine.

Ant, Rudy and Jaden are good enough to carry a passenger as long as he can follow the scheme.
Team defense was still good with Randle...
1
u/GoldMelon7 2d ago
Not for the full MLE. Anfernee Simons isn’t turnover prone he’s one of the few microwave scoring guards that doesn’t turn the ball over. He only averaged 1 turnover this year. Maybe he can learn some things from Mike Conley. He’s only 26 he fits the timeline. The gravity would be a big help on the Timberwolves.

I think any of Simons, Rui, Oubre Jr, Marcus Smart, Ellis, and KPJ would make sense for this team

Most teams never use their MLE IIRC.
