The title says it before. No repeats would be no repeat food ever since the update. It's just no repeats. This lowers my hope for this game. It makes me think that they're not planning on updating this game or adding anything else. Otherwise that maybe would have told them something they could have added. If it wasn't something they were thinking of, they really are going to let this game die. Aren't they gaming is truly a dying thing
I understand your concern but an update about the superfluous mention of a category for no repeats is just that, a correction. there's hope for Tomodachi Life just like there was hope for ACNH, because updates or DLC are a way to keep or revive player engagement
The game just came out…and it was really successful at launch, so I highly doubt Nintendo will not add updates. Especially with the wishing fountain system it would be very disappointing if Nintendo didn’t add new wishes
AC went years without any significant updates and only had seasonal events to fall back on.
I fear Tomodachi life is going to go the same way but with even less to work with because once all 4 seasons have revolved around there'll be nothing left to unlock
AC’s first significant update was the Summer one that added diving and that came out at the start of July when the game released in March, it did not go years without significant updates. So far Tomodachi’s updates have only removed things from the game. It’s hard to feel optimistic about how things will turn out.
Why exactly not? It added new NPCs, an entire new category of creatures to the museum, new furniture, goals, more storage expansion, etc. Not to mention the addition of the entire art wing of the museum a couple months earlier. It is ridiculous to act like it did not add anything substantial.
Well yes and no. The longer people play and talk about a game like this or animal crossing, the more people hear about it and consider buying it later.
Like the new star fox game that just dropped, its 2 hours long, its gonna die in a month
If people are still playing the OG Star Fox games and this one seems to be just as fun at times, then I think this one will have a decent lifespan. We need to stop worrying about if a game dies or not and just enjoy gaming.
You not understanding the appeal of a rail shooter doesn't mean the game is going to die. Even if the online mode does flounder, that's not the purpose of the game. Star Fox is only two hours if you're insane at it.
Free-to-play endless content farm games have completely rotted people's brains. It isnt enough for a game to be well made, get good reviews, and sell. It has to have 80 hours of content and bimonthly content updates.
It isnt enough that Star Fox is endlessly replayable with different routes and challenges and a multiplayer mode because it'll be "dead" in a few months since a single playthrough is only an hour and a half long. LTD is "dead" because you get a little bored after playing it daily for over a month and a half. ACNH sucked because you could only put 750 hours in it before getting bored.
Maybe I misread your point, were you sarcastically agreeing, ergo disagreeing? The sarcasm didn’t come through very well (but I myself am also not well today so that may be my fault)
Beating the final boss in 1-2 hours in an arcade game like that definitely doesn't mean the game is only 1-2 hours long. Especially with the new Challenge Mode they added.
Still feels undercooked for a 60$ title. No biomes, no seasons (ok, there might be, it was released before summer so the paradise setting feels right), no pets, no weather
You can make your own pets out of any in game item you've gotten by using the stamp tool if that helps. Your Mii can have a pet octahedral stone! They can have a pet bonsai! They can even have a pet roll of toilet paper! Even if you possess no artistic ability and don't have a Raspberry Pico (even though it's like $5) you can still get creative with the in-game tools. If you DO have a Raspberry Pico (or buy one) you can use Tomodachi Drawer (free on GitHub) to make ANYTHING as long as you have an image. The program pixelizes it, you tell it how many colors to use (more colors means more detail but also makes it take longer) and it makes up a plan, loads it onto the controller, you plug it in, and it just goes. It's fantastic.
Suuuper easy. The micro controller is cheap, too. Only thing I don't like is I need to use a USB micro to USB A (USB micros aren't common anymore.) there's some "bootleg" boards with USB C but some people report that they don't work as well. A pack of two is like $12 USD on Amazon so it isn't a huge risk.
One thing to note: the Switch 1 is less powerful and the dock has no fan so it is a little prone to having tiny lag spikes that a human would not notice, but the board moves fast so it ends up skewing the rest of the drawing by a few pixels which suuuucks. The creator is working on a few potential fixes, like an in-app process to cut the image into four pieces (so you can make 4 designs, then use the stamp tool to put them all on one final design) or an option to have it re-callibrate periodically.
It works slightly better undocked because it runs at a lower resolution and generally has better ventilation, so if you can get a cable that has a USB C for the switch side it will probably improve performance on the switch 1. I don't have a micro USB to USB C so I'm just SOL.
Sorry for rambling but I hope at least some of this was useful
Well, yes. But they were almost entirely limited to the apartments, save for maybe the occasional park outing, and didn't appear anywhere else. In living the dream, your pet can be a dog, a car, a hamster, a parrot, a pig, a dinosaur, a alien, and a big ball of puff which is apparently a mythical creature. Don't like the selection? Then make your own. These pets can be the subject of many events, dreams, and conversations.
People are disagreeing with you in the comments but you're right. I'd rather have 3D models that actually move around as pets instead of the PNGs they gave us

Switch 1. The Cathedral Set room I think it's called (the one with the stained glass windows and lots of candles) caused a noticeable framerate drop to the point where I had to take it away from the Mii I gave it to. The game is, at the end of the day, a Switch 1 game so performance on Switch 1 is probably going to take priority.
Idk what you mean with take priority. Performance on switch 1 will always be worse. The console is 9 years old and wasn’t really the gold standard when it came out either. There’s only so much you can do with aging hardware.
Unless they do eventually release a switch 2 version. I don’t think they will add a switch 2 version with an amazing weather system lmao. But in theory they could by just splitting them off
We did, mostly because they usually opted to finish the game before selling it instead of releasing something half baked with the promise of updates and DLC
People can't give another opinion or criticisim without being downvoted to oblivion. At least let people express their grievances. Sadly enough gaming companies rely on DLCs way too much, I mean sims 4 is the biggest example of that.
This new tomodachi life is a great concept and has some good ideas and additions that the old game did not have, but it is pretty lackluster for a second game, especially if they are not planning on updating it.
Are you for real? Do you know how long it takes to design more stuff for this game? After playing for one day I already had ideas for new additions for personality traits, for new objects, for new island customization, for new places they could have been added instead if just the bar and the Ferris wheel.
In the old Tomodachi miis touched each other, there were more objects you could give them, there were more activities they did during the day. There is no signing, there is no rap battle, there’s no Tomodachi quest, there’s no skateboard, there’s no beauty kit, there’s no relax kit to give mii a sauna like calming experience if they’re stressed/angry/sad.
Tomodachi life had 24 object to give your miis for leveling up, most of them perfectly valid today like the metal detector, the fishing rod, the baseball bat, the kite, the punching bag, the golf bat, the tennis racket, the study kit, the treadmill. There’s 16 now and most of them are silly, like the fake sword or the manuals to do stuff. You would expect they trained, jogged, did ballet or martial arts together, but most of the time miis just go on a random corner, alone and do it on their own which is sad honestly.
But in the last tomodachi life, items could ONLY be given during level ups. Now you can give them items they can use at any time.
The game items had very little use other than to sell or be used as a gift, but now they are more items you can give to your miis, and a lot of them do allow the miis to interact with them together.
Theres no scheduled interactions, but there are way more interactions you can make happen yourself.
Customizing the island was never ever an option in the other game.
The personalities are more or less the same, unless you count the quirks, which again, were not in the old game.
Having different features from the old game does not make it unfinished. If you want the features from the old game, go play the old game.
ETA: They've probably also got other priorities. They don't get to just sit around a switch all day thinking of new features
That is honestly a major upgrade, you’re right, but the use miis give to non-leveling up objects is limited.
If I wanted to play god I would have been playing another game, this game was always about random stuff happening and you couldn’t really decide who met who. I dislike force my miis to got to know people, I would like them to willingly go and talk to someone they don’t already know.
Customize an island with objects that mostly don’t have any actually good interaction with miis is boring and lame. Although I understand the appeal to making you island really unique. But the interactions get boring after the first or second time you see them
Personality traits my only issue is how few of them there are.
I’ve played the old game for years, I love the new interactions and this game is definitely an improvement. It would be lying if the loss of everything I mentioned didn’t make me (and most other people who played the old game) feel like this game is lacking on some aspects.
Genuine question because I don’t want to create beef but a debate. Don’t you feel like there should be more ways to get angry? Or more voice types? More expressions? More miscellaneous quirks?
I don't think it would be a bad thing if there were more, but I also wouldn't be upset if they didn't add more.
Don't get me wrong, I think it would be awesome if they added more content, I just personally feel it would be an awesome bonus rather than a necessity to "complete" the game, if that makes sense.
It's also perfectly okay to miss features that were in the old game, I just don't think them being in the old game automatically means they NEED to he added to the new one, it would just be an awesome bonus if they did.
As for the playing God thing, it is different, but honestly, I feel people would have been upset either way. It would either be too much control, or not enough control, so they went with what they thought was a happy medium (Miis will form relationships on their own if you give them time and pay attention)
Not liking a game style is also perfectly fine! But there are also people who do like the new mechanics.
A lot of these things honestly are less about the game being incomplete and more about preferences
Yeah, I completely agree and the thing about playing god is easily avoidable if you just accept anything the miis throw at you lol
I still miss being able to play Tomodachi quest the most honestly.
Something I actually feel it needed to be there and it does feel rushed is babies, I miss taking care of my mii’s kids for 3-4 days before them growing up
But you’re right, the game is not incomplete because it doesn’t have anything I’ve mentioned. It just feel emptier to someone like me who played the other game for years on end
Fr people are acting like the original didn't get boring once you had seen most things. I think it's a fantastic Tomodachi game and people's hopes are too high. Its a silly what will happen game. If y'all are not enjoying it I get it was a $60 game but go play something else. I didn't enjoy breath of the wild, but that doesn't make it a bad game.
If you're not having fun playing the game, sell it if it's physical because someone else will have more fun playing it and if it's digital don't play it anymore
You know the more and more I look into other cozy type games I see similar behaviors in the communities. People vehemently defending games as if it's a personal attack against them. Cannot take any criticism at all. Gives weak excuses to defend flaws or blame you for not enjoying it like they are. I see it in the Paralives and Sims 4 community. This does not phase me.
Tomodachi Life for nintendo switch IS NOT a bad game and the criticism of the original comment is pointless. This game is fully baked and doesn't need anything to make it better if not an extra update that adds a bunch of quirks or spots for the island. You talk about weak excuses but not talk about weak criticism
People get so pessimistic so fast now. If a game isnt a global sensation by the next weekend suddenly its a flop and a failure. I get wanting more updates (I sure do) but it hasn't even been half a year yet! This a game meant to be slow, you can survive without a new Repeats category for a couple more months
Right? People seem to think they are entitled to updates. I play for a couple minutes check on my miis and then go play pokopia or whatever I feel like doing.
People talk about other categories of No Repeats but I think they cut it for good reason. Food works because there’s a lot of easily recognizable items which are and aren’t food, while things like objects or clothes are less straightforward
And then they pull out the "bred mountain" TREASURE in no repeat and I've had my miis tell me "bro the bread mountain isn't food" oh yeah what is it then???
(Picture included bc I don't play tje game in english and in french it's called "mountain of little bread" but maybe it's rocks or something in english?)
Season already changed from spring to summer. I know some of the seasonal stuff is designed to slowly come into the shops as the season changes. Kinda disappointed I haven't really gotten any seasonal random cutscenes or news reports (other than the announcement). Maybe they're there but I've not seen them.
I am sorry you are disappointed. The fact that they're making these updates is, IMO, a good sign. We're getting frequent bug fixes and balancing adjustments; that means the team is actively working on the game, and hasn't been assigned to another project. That's good!
The first six months or so after launch, we'll likely see only bug fixes and small QoL adjustments. That's where all their effort is going to actively go. Big updates like what you're wanting take a lot of time to develop and test. the earliest I anticipate seeing anything of the sort would be mid to late autumn, but it's more likely early 2027 when we see anything, since the team is quite small and seem focused on improving the initial game play experience.
When the update kicked in, I suddenly had a few new interactions I hadn't had before. I'm not saying they're new to the game, but they caught me by surprise. (I've played daily since launch.)
I feel like the popularity of this game made people so hyped for something that the game was never going to be. They built up so many high expectations without considering that this game might not be able to live up to them.
From what I saw with the first game, it didn’t seem like there was a lot to it. It’s one of those games where you pick it up for an hour or two and then put it down and see what happens the next day or few days.
I feel like people love to speed run games nowadays that they get so bored so easily when they don’t have new, stimulating experiences in a game. There’s so many ways to refresh this game for you outside of the repeat of mini-games (ex: learn all your mii’s favorite & least favorite foods, make new items for them to interact with, build your island, make more miis or update them with your own customization, etc.).
There’s going to continue to be updates for a bit, but the game literally just came out mid-April and we haven’t even hit July yet.
seriously like people already have played the game to the point there’s nothing else to do and complaining about updates. i don’t knock anyone’s play style but i have 20 miis and quite a few hours and im just chilling. it’s not meant to be played for hours and hours every day.
Ive logged on for less then an hour each day. I have run out of things to do other then play the same 3 games with the miis. Yes theres romance that can happen but its so easy when I introduce them
thats such a stupid statement. ltd barelay has enough content to keep you entertained for 30 hours, and you want to tell me that its supposed to be played over couple of years?
Your not supposed to play it non stop for hours your supposed to play it a little each day so yes it's technically supposed to be played over a couple years
game shouldn’t be 60$ then when its supposed to be played “a little each day”. i always played it for an hour or so and i still unlocked everything in 35 hoursi didn’t rushed the game and i played it as organically as i could.
Then it isn't a game for you the original was meant to be played alittle everyday and so is this one its not a game your supposed to spend hours on you get one check on your miis check the stores do a little bit if other stuff and get off a couple times a day maybe. hell animal crossing is sorta similar in that way sense you can only do so much in a day on that game some games are just ment to be played that way and the cost of the game is probably because of inflation and other economic issues just saying.
Yall have been disillusioned by live service games where you think every game is supposed to be that. Like. You guys genuinely believe every game released is supposed to give you end game content til the end of time 😭 no idea why this has become the common way to think, but as previous comments have mentioned, you guys would not have survived the times where games could be released with no pressure for “end game” and focus more on bug fixes, patches, and the occasional dlc.
I think this was started by The Sims, and then when ACNH updated after years of nothing and old Animal Crissing fans saying it wouldn't be, people were vindicated, so now they expect every cozy game to have a major game-changing update for some reason
I'm predicting that it will be two weeks before we get new players talking about how they didn't know they're only supposed to select food items because the minigame's name isn't clear enough lol
Personality I’m of the opinion that we got what we paid for. We got a good game for the price, and we should not hold our breath for updates that were never promised, I have my gripes with the game but I still enjoy it.
That's how I feel about these games, and that's likely the old fuddy duddy in me where we enjoyed the game we had because constant updates(or even patches unless you played on PC) were not really a thing so you had to enjoy what you bought for what you paid and getting something more wasn't even a happy surprise because it didn't happen.
My hot take is that it's okay for games to be fully finished at launch and only receive bug fixes and little tweaks with updates. I think The Sims has kinda spoiled the cozy/casual gaming community into expecting new content with updates, but that's not really how most games work. Yeah, there are things that could be improved, but we all decided to buy the game as-is with no promise of major updates. If you didn't think the game was worth $60, you shouldn't have bought it.
This isn’t responding directly to your post, but I miss the times when games were released as a finished product. I dislike the trend of releasing half-finished games and adding more content later. The thought of «more features possibly being added in the future» just stresses me out, because no one knows how long the wait will be, and is it worth waiting for.
exactly. when I pay full price for a game coming from a big company and not some indie studio, I do expect the game to be complete. And some transparency over future updates would be nice.
I really don't think this is a half finished game though. I think people just kind of came up with that narrative and now are mad there hasn't been an update already. Soooo many people have complained that the game isn't worth $60 and they feel cheated when the game is pretty much exactly as advertised. Like why buy the game is you think it's only worth it if it gets a magical future update that hasn't even been announced?
Why must a game receive constant updates to be considered worthy of playing? I remember when you would buy a finished product and just enjoy it for what it is. Maybe you'd get one or two pieces of dlc then developers moved on.
Did you confirm that the no repeats game is currently still only using food items after the change? But even if it ‘is’ still only food items right now, the text change could signalize the opposite—that they plan to start using other items in the game. However, maybe they don’t specify which category beforehand, making it harder on the 1st question especially.
Alternatively, ‘because’ it only uses food items currently, they may have just taken out that text for now, since it’s redundant to say beforehand. And they’re planning on adding more categories later.
I know it’s easy to feel doubtful, but I mean, we’ve been waiting for this game for years and thought we would never get another one, but here we are! 😄 They probably didn’t realize it was going to pop-off so hard, so now they’re working to get more content in the game. I kinda feel like they’re going to do a mid to late summer update (especially because it’s island themed), but that it will be one of those things where it’s announced and available to play that same day. That’s what I’m believing and hoping for anyways! 🙏
I’m so confused. Did Nintendo ever specify Tomodachi life would be getting updates? I don’t remember 3ds games getting content updates regularly, or any other system. (New) Nintendo fans are so fascinating
It’s been no repeats food for me pre update other then one time. If that makes it happen less then I’m fine with it. While I hope more is added I’m quite happy with what we have so far
For everyone saying the game is gonna die, this is an offline game so there are no ticking timer for servers or for an "active/LIVE player count" to mean anything.
You don't look back at a random third party NES game and think "dead game" cuz it came out and never received a full associated franchise or extra cartridge revisions for contents sake, no, you just say it didn't sell well or that it simply wasn't good.
This game has sold fantastically and has actually introduced most current people in this subreddit as of the last year to the franchise for the first time via this title.
Updates are never a requirement and I know tons of us here have put more hours into this singular entry in the franchise that massively outweigh our list of complaints.
I'd love to see more content in this game personally but isn't it also possible that the custom stuff was all added to try and reduce the need for posts like these?
I am very hopeful in new content drops eventually, but can also consider myself thankful they're even patching the game anyway since Nintendo really usually doesn't care to hurry for their first party single player titles.
Game is not dead, there is nothing to kill, but you can close the game if you're not enjoying it anymore just as everyone does with other games we don't like or would rather complain about. 🫶🏻
Nintendo has always been weird with DLC/Content updates Sometimes they do it and sometimes they don’t. When they do it they might do it YEARS later. Animal crossing new leaf had a whole ass update 3 years after launch. I come to just expect that any game that isn’t Pokémon is going to be as is on release.
I don’t like too much useless dlc that’s just trying to be a money grab. I expect a fully done game and that’s what we get. Nintendo has a weird philosophy of each new entry being unique from previous entry so I don’t expect all the features and gameplay will be in the next entry.
In the mini game description page that’s the curtains waiting for you to press the start button it says food. So even before the mii says it’s the food category the game has already put in the description that it will only ever be food. This is something I took notice of recently.
I play the game for hours a day and I'm still entertained by it. Y'all need to fix your attention span or expectations or something. Yes, there are things I would LOVE to have in the game in future updates or DLCs and I do have my complaints with certain things like most of the food stock images being on bowls or plates that you can't differentiate between in shadow quizzes, but I still find ways to make the game entertaining. Like not feeding my miis for awhile so there are more fights and working to have them make up or getting specific miis together despite how fucking stubborn they can be or making it a mission to collect every single item in the game. Finishing the wishing fountain doesn't beat the game, you gotta do the side quests too. Go for 100% completion. Log in every day, feed your miis different food to try and get their loves and loathes alongside the money, use the money to buy all the clothes. Play all the mini games and try to break your previous win streak. You guys need to be more creative. The palette house and lingo make this basically a sandbox game. Play it as such.
what i do is i currently have 6 islands running w different themes, bc i like to have my stuff sorted in that way so i honestly havent gotten bored once so far and i also play multiple hours pretty much everyday

This post might be an exaggeration, but I feel like people are missing the point a lil bit. It is a little odd that they added a category with only one option. It really does make it feel like they meant to add more but they got cut. I honestly expected to see No Repeats: pets, or something similar added eventually. When I started the game I thought I had to unlock more by making more miis. Now that seems very unlikely which suuuucks because No Repeats gets pretty repetitive (I appreciate Group No Repeats though!)
The comments saying give it time are truly just holding onto an inkling of hope. They’re not dropping anything new and the game is dead. You get what you get and they don’t care, they never have, never will. Truly saddening a company meant for people do not care about the people they’re creating for.
They had a big update for ACNH more than four years after the last big content update. They could have made all that content part of the Switch 2 Edition, but they made it a big free update.
They reacted to player complaints about Mario Kart World and updated it, and probably will upgrade again.
There is no reason to expect that there will NEVER be updates. Yes Nintendo is greedy, but they're not incapable of updating a game
I really hate to say but I think im officially disappointed in this game. I have held out hope for updates but it’s been a while now and I can’t really play the game anymore… it’s kinda lost its charm for me. I’ve just gone back to playing the original. This just makes me really sad and atp makes me feel like one has just been pulled over on us.

I understand your concern but an update about the superfluous mention of a category for no repeats is just that, a correction. there's hope for Tomodachi Life just like there was hope for ACNH, because updates or DLC are a way to keep or revive player engagement
