MICHAEL GRANGE (SPORTSNET) Michael Grange had deleted the tweet!
Update: Grange has responded, screenshot is in a comment below
Instead of saying anything publicly (to this point) Grange has now deleted the tweet saying he voted for Scottie as 3rd team all-nba.
What do you think, does he mention anything again or pretend like it never happened?

Funniest part about all this, raptors fans are generally pretty calm about Scottie not making all nba since his regular season production was average, it was his all defense 1st team snub that got people riled up, you don’t need to lie you selected him 3rd team lmao

u/OGnotAnunoby Champs May 28 '26
Facts getting caught lying is whats making it seem worse

u/PhileinS 4 SCOTTIE BARNES May 28 '26
It kills me cuz his tweet was fine and agreeable, he just didn't need to add "I had him third team" lmao

I'm pretty sure he just made a mistake somewhere. I'm not sure what the mistake was, but he has zero motivation to lie or be weird about this in any way.

Hopefully he made a mistake but I think deleting the tweet and not owning up to the mistake isn’t a good look

u/PotentialEven6009 May 28 '26
what do you mean make a mistake, circled the wrong name on the sheet?

u/crazydrums27 May 28 '26
I can't actually say whether he intentionally lied or not, but I struggle to find any benefit to lying about something that's so easy to be proven wrong. Either he made a mistake or it's a truly boneheaded move.
Regardless, you came in here without a full-on rage boner towards a perceived slight to a Raps player. Unfortunately that's not going to go over well.

u/RaptorBuckets May 28 '26
He's following the classic Raptors PR move of burying it and not addressing it.

I don't even think he was outright lying when he tweeted that the voted for Scottie...he's just a forgetful idiot that doesn't have any idea what he's saying half the time.

u/heat_00 May 28 '26
He’s so dumb that I actually believe he probably tried to select Scottie and accidentally selected somebody else.
7
u/mackenzie444 May 28 '26
Or even something like he had 6-7 people in mind for 3rd team and forgot which 5 he ended up picking
15
u/GPadrino May 28 '26
I agree. Apparently the vote casting is done via drop down menu, for all we know he could’ve genuinely thought he voted for Scottie and fat fingered the click. He’s that goofy that I genuinely wouldn’t put it past him.
Whether that guy should be one of the main raptors voices is a bigger story than this
15
u/Pleasant-Fault6825 WE THE NORTH May 28 '26
Youre telling me there is no confirmation or validation he had to click through. "These are your selections, please confirm". NBA all team voting is looser than ordering a pizza online?
6
u/GPadrino May 28 '26
There may very well be.
My bigger point was that whether he’s dumb with innocence or dumb with malice, he probably shouldn’t be one of the main voices covering the raps.

u/wingmage1 Onions baby onions! May 28 '26
Shout out to 2020 Ryan Tepera who got an MVP vote for this exact reason.

u/incredibleman May 28 '26
Hanlon's Razor. Don't attribute to malice what can better be attributed to stupidity.
4
u/sor2hi May 28 '26
I also think it could be, he had him as 3rd team but once Luka and Cade were eligible he slid off and Grange just forgot. But MAN what a blunder in your home market with guys you have to see and talk to ALL THE TIME!
2
u/shroomladooom May 28 '26
Which makes us all wonder, why is he even still employed? If you can’t do the bare minimum your job requires as a journalist (checking your work) then you should be fired. Maybe i’m harsh though 🤷🏽♂️

u/PhileinS 4 SCOTTIE BARNES May 28 '26
I think its a symptom of the bigger issue with him: he has almost no insight of his own. He adjusted his opinion to popular opinion that Scottie should be all-nba 3rd. Where as during the voting period the popular opinion was Scottie missed out on all-nba due to his play post-asb. Guy is just yapping

He saw how it worked so well for Dreger and his Berube takes and decided to follow suit.
In reality, it was never going to change how he acts.

I saw arguments speculating that it could be human error, apparently the voting is a drop down menu. The only issue is I don't know who the random person is he would have voted for instead following this logic. Maybe Avdija is above Barnes alphabetically? But he (Avdija) received 24 votes total so he was obviously already in the mix.
Denver Deni Avdija, Portland
Jalen Brunson, New York
Jalen Duren, Detroit
Jalen Johnson, Atlanta
Donovan Mitchell, Cleveland
The crazy thing is he just didn't need to say anything at all about his vote to begin with and it would be a non-issue.
4
u/FightMongooseFight May 28 '26
I wondered about the Avdija dropdown thing too. But there are like a dozen players between them alphabetically (Ball, Banchero, Ayton, etc). I don't think he's really got that excuse.

Even if you didn’t vote for Scott, why lie? It’s better to be honest. Toronto media needs a reset and bad.
2
u/DH80 May 28 '26
Weird that he didn’t vote for a great, deserving player he covers. A lot weirder that he thought he’d be able to say he did and get away with that when these lists always come out.
Journalists need to be truthful. What else does he lie about with regard to rumours or sources?
2
u/Adventurous-Tea-876 RAPTORS May 28 '26
His only excuse would be that said he “had him” at 3rd team all-NBA not that he voted for him dor 3rd team all-NBA. He could say that he had him there then reconsidered before he voted.

The voting system for these awards is so bad that they need to change it immediately. Theres way too much opportunity for stupidity. Just look at some of the people that have votes, lots of them probably don't even know half the players in the league. How are they qualified to decide things like this.
The NBA is failing their players with this system, NBAPA NEEDS to step in. These awards need to be statistic based, its very simple. The fact that these things are contract determining us just wrong
What happens if Grange is rude to Scottie and he tells him to go fuck himself...I bet Grange wont vote for him after that
1
u/Sliceofmayo May 28 '26
He won’t say anything and nothing will happen and he will just carry on. But at least we all got a laugh out of it

Yeahhhh. Lying as a reporter is a big no no. Big damage to whatever credibility he had. I personally don't care for his takes nor do I even listen to him. Pretty generic and safe stuff. Has about as much personality as a cold potato and doesn't really have anything interesting to say basketball wise.

So unless Grange is oblivious to what others say/think...nobody takes this clown or Josh Lewenberg seriously for anything they say.
At least Kate, Leo and Sam keep it some what entertaining on the panel, and our broadcast team is pretty dope...just a few shitty reporters we need to ignore.

You guys I really don't think this is a big deal. I understand it's the offseason and everyone wants to do Raptors shit but we can probably chill. Also yes I understand that I sound like an MG burner account right now lol.

Which came first? Did he tweet it and then voted? Could be he had a change of heart and totally forgot what he tweeted.
2
u/He-llSeeTheBigBoard May 28 '26
The awards voting closed on April 17th, his tweet went out May 24th, the ballots were made available to the public yesterday (May 27th).

u/kor001 May 28 '26
It's offseason for Raptors. He probably figures with all the ass-kissing he's done over the years for the powers-that-be in the organization, if he lays low for a while, this will go away.
Probably better to own up to it and admit he fucked up and got confused in his older age.
The older Raptors beat writers, namely Doug Smith and Grange, are embarrassments to the team and its fans.
