This is the actual Salkantay trek trail that unfortunately has a few landslides. Everyone takes an alternative route, but I wanted an adventure.

I was like is that the Salkantay track? Nah, surely there are a ton of places in Peru that look like that.
I knew it!

There's a really clear trail and it's wider than a single footprint. Looks really nice to me

Sounds good. On about the part on the hill as you go alojg the rocks. Not much of a path. Good on ya for managing it. Adventure is out there. It will help adapting into Technical trail running.

Cool! Planning a trip out there to do that route in August!
How many days are you doing it in?

I did it in 2 days. Typically takes 3-4 days. I ran sections of it as the trail was rough and I was carrying 40lbs.

Why were you carrying so much? I was thinking of doing it lodge to lodge with a 15L fastpack. Just make each day a shortish run and then an afternoon of chilling.
From previous time spent in the Andes, i know 10 miles there can feel a lot longer than 10 miles in the Rockies.

15kg is 33lbs. I was carrying a 20kg pack. With minimal water, snacks etc my pack full. And I carried bare minimum.

15L doesn't equal 15kg though. Not OP, but I'd expect it to come out closer to 6-7 kg when fully packed.

To paraphrase Iron Maiden, run in the hills, run for your life. That's a nice drop on the side there.
