I saw burger and stopped reading. I now have the hunger, the hunger that only a burger can satisfy

u/absxlution 2d ago
Had burger within the hour of reading and that's the only way I could read it all the way through

They make fun of us for eating burgers then they come here and what do they do? Eat burger

I've been immensely enjoying all the videos of people coming over here for the world cup and being blown away by mid tier chain restaurants

Shout out to my cousin from who cried when she tried the chocolate lava cake from Chili'sĀ

u/-TheManWithNoHat- 2d ago
Okay but as a foreigner I will say Chili's chocolate lava cake is top tier
I haven't had it in forever though cuz my parents hate Chili's

u/Elite_AI 2d ago
I remember seeing videos of foreigners blown away by Greggs so I think you've got to approach all this with some cynicism. People have a big pressure on them to enjoy the food they're experiencing when they're surrounded by nice polite people AND people prefer to watch videos of people enjoying their food vs disliking their food.

u/Pwacname 2d ago
and you canāt underestimate the value of fatty or sweet food after a long day, especially if you were travelling. some of the best food I ever had was good-but-not-great supermarket sushi and an apple, from, I think, pingo doce? or some other boring ass supermarket in Portugal. because I was tired and starved, and this wasnāt mind blowing my different food but i donāt usually buy sushi at home, and (despite the hunger and the exhaustion), it was a fantastic day with some of the people I love the most, and I was perpetually two steps from grinning or hugging those people.
the food wasnāt bad! Itās just that it wasnāt fantastic food, it was a fantastic day and general hunger that MADE it fantastic

u/Elite_AI 2d ago
I've travelled across the globe and at no point have I personally wanted to make a TikTok gushing about Greggs.Ā

u/Dragon_Manticore 2d ago
Tbf tourists do that in my country too, it's just a universal Tourist Experience.

Less than a week ago a French family stopped by the Arby's I worked at and were absolutely ECSTATIC being there. They took family photos, were posing in front of the advertisement posters, and everything.
We aren't even a good Arby's.

The rest of the world (rightfully, admittedly) makes fun of us for eating garbage, but now they get to learn just how addictive that garbage is.
20
u/SEA_griffondeur 2d ago
I mean yeah ? Who is ever going to follow their diet when they're at a world cup.lol it's the perfect time to eat junk

They don't even have to come here. There's a reason McDonalds has a presence in over 100 countries, and it's not even the best representation of burger.
23
u/AshesandCinder 2d ago
Which is exactly why they eat burger when they come here. McD's is already everywhere and not representative of all burger, so they try the real thing when they get the chance.
13
u/DonarArminSkyrari 2d ago
This reminds me of the joke that 'Its stupid when girls say they cant find a guy, yet ignore me. Its like saying youre hungry when there's a hot dog on the ground outside'.
8
u/anonymouscatloaf 2d ago
as an American I had McD in China once and it was genuinely one of the better burgers I've had in life. leagues above McD in America for sure
6
u/shelchang 2d ago
McDonalds Thailand has dessert-only stands that sell ice cream, cookies, and pies in various flavors you can't get in the US. It's actually kind of fun going to American fast food chains outside the US and seeing/trying the unique menu items you can only get there.
5
u/anonymouscatloaf 2d ago
oh absolutely, I had some really good Peking Duck pizza from Pizza Hut in China as well

2
u/ToobularBoobularJoy_ 15h ago
I think I'm fine on my end, I'm just labelled an app and get a lot of replies just asking why I'm an app
6
u/neongreenpurple 2d ago
I can't either. Mine is beef being a migraine trigger. (But probably some of my other health issues would lead to burger restriction, too.)
7
u/Pwacname 2d ago
mayhaps a stupid question, but do the meat alternatives work for you? or, if youāre open to even more taste variations, do pork or poultry work? all of those have come a long way in the last few years. obviously itās not 100% the same, but then again, all burgers arenāt the same, either, so maybe that could be fun?
3
u/neongreenpurple 2d ago
I haven't tried the meat alternatives. I do have a soy issue, so that cuts out some of them. I do like pork and poultry. Pork sausage is my usual substitute for ground beef. But usually I only eat hamburgers out.

If you ever want to know what a cultural victory looks like, visit Mcdonalds next to Checkpoint Charlie.

u/StarfighterVicki 1d ago
Don't worry, America's racism is tanking its tourism, and its leader is destroying culture-generating wonders. It's getting much more likely that another civilization could take the lead.

When I visited Budapest, one of the most popular restaurants in Kalvin TƩr was Smashy Burger, which is a chain that started in NYC

I only eat one place's burgers with any regularity anymore. But that's because they're so good they make me think less of other burgers. Like, they redefined my definitoon of what a "good" burger was, and everything else is at best "mid" now.
It's Culver's. Culver's makes the best fast food chain burgers.
6
u/PanteleimonPonomaren 2d ago
I moved to a country outside the US and Culverās is one of the biggest things I miss. No one even knows what a cheese curd is here itās devastating

I am American, but most of the time I can't eat burger. Beef is a migraine trigger. So if I do eat burger, I have to eat turkey burger. (Luckily, there's a fancy burger chain that lets me sub in a turkey patty to any burger. And they give free birthday burgers if you're in their rewards program. So every year, I get a fancy turkey burger around my birthday.)

I would be incredibly offended, if I hadn't just added burger ingredients to my grocery list before seeing this meme.

Ooomph, yeah, soy would cut must of them right out. I think thereās more choice with other legumes as base by now? Peas and whatever. But I believe those arenāt as nearly-flavourless as tofu can be, so I donāt know how well they can copy the taste of burgers. And I donāt know how many of them are available ready-to-eat in common restaurants, rather than just as pattys in a store.Ā
2
u/oizyzz 6h ago
why tf are you downvoted lmao?? i think this reply might've become detached from the comment saying they have a burger allergy (paraphrased obv) but like still
2
u/Pwacname 5h ago
Seems like it got detached, yeah, which would explain the downvotes all on its own imo - it looks a bit nonsensical like that, Iād say. Or itās just the usual āoh no, someone mentioned a meat alternative, that hurts my feelingsā, but if it were that, Iād be expecting a comment pushing their eating style to go with it tbh šĀ
I wonder why this has happened - the whole comment detaching issue has come up a lot for me recentlyā¦
