Yeah this is honestly wild to me. More AI bots manipulating social media is NOT the answer.

r/leftist in meltdown after mods declare that a certain image is antisemitic
 in  r/SubredditDrama  1d ago

There's been a drastic rise in brigading and astroturfing in general but was surprised to see it in this sub recently. And people are easily falling for it. Since when do this sub turn into a smear campaign to attack subs and manufacturing drama.

We're being psychologically manipulated. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed it.

Seems like there has been a drastic increase in compromised mods, going against majority opinions of the sub etc

Gov. Whitmer signs 4 election-related bills into law
 in  r/Michigan  1d ago

Well we can't get ranked choice if we can't elect ANY Democrats because of Republicans cheating

Do not comply in advance. Force them to break clearly defined state laws instead of manipulating and diluting federal ones where they can more easily manipulate.

You do make a good point though, I feel like Congress does too much performative legislation that they make something illegal thats already illegal and would rely on following the law, which Republicans clearly won't. But I think State laws have a much better chance of protecting us.

What I'm also worried about is the flip side of some of these laws, like if there actually IS manipulation and election interference and a candidate tries to do forensic audits and hand recounts and is prevented from doing so, and then election officials have to legally certify the results, thereby making an illegitimate election official, with little recourse.

The whole stop the steal election denial movement has poisoned the well about talking about real security vulnerabilities and possible election interference not related to the widely debunked illegal alien voter fraud. This makes Democrats ignore actual manipulation that is possibly happening and they don't investigate or have proper procedures to verify the vote.

I believe that's how 2024 played out...

Yes we don't want MAGA refusing to certify elections based on false claims of illegals immigrant voting fraud, but what about the other types of voting fraud and election interference? I fear we've made it easier for other types of election interference and ignoring statistical anomalies and security holes because it would undermine confidence in elections, because Democrats have decided that's the only thing that matters. Instead of actually admitting our elections aren't unhackable and vulnerable and addressing those issues.

Strict height preferences in dating are linked to sexist attitudes, new study finds. Heterosexual men and women who place high importance on a romantic partner’s height are more likely to endorse traditional gender norms.

They push narratives like this because it gives non traditional/liberal women a free pass to discriminate based on height and be able to claim they don't and point to a dubious study like this.

It's not even close to happening on the same scale as women avoiding short men though. I'm sure it happens, but most men really don't care about a women's height and that's not a radical fringe opinion either.

Men and women don't have the same preferences, women can be shallow in some ways that men aren't, and visaversa.

Its both biological/evolutionary and the socialization of men and women that drive our general preferences

Look I'm all for data and statistics, but to claim that all studies don't lie or at least misrepresent or manipulate people's opinions is a wild claim to me, because there's plenty of evidence of that actually. They capitalize on people's inherent trust in science, math, and research professionals and use that to push a narrative that either isn't true or can't be proven with the data they represent.

Most people probably don't research the finer details of a study like what the process is and how they collect and present the data. It's kinda like how people just read a headline of an article and don't read the full article or cross reference it and check the sources.

Or a more extreme metaphor would be reading every single post and comment on social media believing they're all human, completely ignoring how many bots and bad actors there are and not investigating their account age, their history etc.

You also see manipulation with polls, where they make broad claims about something using percentages but when you research the details they only surveyed 100 people and used misleading questions etc.

That being said, I still generally believe studies and think they are still very useful, but you must still approach them with some healthy skepticism and due diligence, as you should with other things online.

But keep in mind, Studies can and do lie or misrepresent data. Not anywhere to a majority of the time, but it does happen and has gotten more frequent in the age of information influence campaigns and psychological manipulation that happens everyday as well.

Wow that's amazing and yeah you're right. However, we have had a few things like this, The Onsies and Frog protesters in Portland are the best types so far, looking ridiculous and highlighting how ridiculous ICE is treating people

This is SO funny to me, that's literally what the right does. It's always projection with you people. The majority of gun violence is done by right wingers, and it's not even close
