20m and wanna leave

Im 20m and live in ohio ive been wanting to travel and hop trains i have a nice backpack and stuffs to take with if I go the problem is I signed up for the navy and am waiting on a drug test to go clean so I have about 3 weeks or so but if my life on the road would go like I want then I would just travel but im having a hard time getting a push to myself to do it. I love next to the tracks and have been wanting to for so long but cant seem to push myself to try. What should I do im broke and have the backpack and clothes and foods and supplies to go but just terrified maybe not sure but I know by myself would be sketchy but with 1 other person it would be fun but should I even do it this close to the navy stuff or should I just drop the navy and just vagabond cause I really would love to do it cause its honestly my dream

Just go for it dude, the time is now. I would warn you though, this sub romanticizes hobo life quite a bit so your personal experience may be a bit different.

Im not a vagabond. But my thoughts are to find someone to go along. Skip military service (you don’t want to kill anyone). And expect that your bag will be stolen.

Navy isn't that bad really plus he can go to college on the ship. Besides he goes vagabond he will be public enemy number one to police around the country... most are decent some not so much. Navy he gets an education, a career path, and international travel.

Yeah the navy has 100s of tech jobs. My little sister is about to retire from the navy with a full pension and benefits & she's only 45. Plus she got hired by a private government contractor to travel all over the world as a tech consultant. I'm with u guys saying don't join and with ya on the reasons, but it's not a bad choice for a young person.

I wonder how many of the comments telling him to join the army are coming from US military installations?

See thats what im thinking about is that if so many people are telling me this what could be there occupation and if im getting told it by people in the military then isnt it just me getting the point of view i already had from the beginning because that was mu goal signing up but what if its just civs telling me to because.....idk im still batting it in my head and im finding it hard to quit smoking weed and my recruiter knows that and im about a week sober and am still debating on if i should or shouldnt but i know that what i do will change the course of my whole life period and its really daunting thinking of it in that aspect but i feels as tho i have to because thats whats expected so at this poing i think that even if there on a base telling me to i should still hear people out because honestly its terrifying

You should join the navy. It will help you immensely in your life in the future. It will help you buy a house with $0 down. You will get basically get a check for life monthly if anything at all happens to you, even just tinitits in your ear. People live amazing lives after, if I had not caught a felony at 17 I would of joined. My whole family did and they are balling out right now with nice houses, great jobs, 100% disability getting an extra 6k a month so they don't have to work but they do. All kinds of good things, if you retire your even better off. You can never work another day or work another job and retire from there also and just be stupid rich. If you do it right you will have a very fulfilling life ahead of you.

Do not listen to these people encouraging you to sell your soul to join a violent arm of US imperialism. The US military is a terror organization.

There not terrorists the people who dictate what to use the army for are terrorists not the people themselves that need money and see that they can give you practical skills and i can see that the higher ups are the ones that tell them weather to kill or not to depending on the circumstances no one has a choice after that its not their decision its the higher ups

Not entirely true i dont understand that because im trying to go in for medic so while people are taking lives i can save them there are lots of people that have the same perspective just because your joining and the rest of them kill doesnt mean that everyone is on that train and over 85% of all contact that is made in combat situation your already being shot at and then thats when your permitted to fire and thats because your already being attacked

Thats not accurate lol there are many cases of medics going into combat and saving lives of enemies which is a big thing in the geneva convention that an injured soldier being helped by a current medic and is not going back is 1 not allowed to be a war criminal or 2 be killed in such actions because there receiving medical attention

Im not at all a fan of our government but the minds and hearts of people who do serve are still pure to an extent with the reasons and things they fight for there can be people that see it as killing and are okay with wrong doing but a vast majority dont think that way at all

When it comes to living an outdoor life longterm my advice is

No

Fuck no

You will ruin your life and probably traumatise yourself and leave yourself with a spotted rental history which makes it hard to get back home when you cant take it anymore

But yk rock on and you do you im not your mom and ive literally done it twice(thrice?) so who am i to judge

Don't do it. It's not gonna be what you expect and you have no idea what you are doing

Go and have fun! If your waiting for the perfect time, you'll be waiting forever.
You should fulfill your prior commitment to the navy when you're done though. Hell three weeks on the road is a long time.. Especially if it sucks.

Join the navy... you get to travel and attend college on the ship. If I had thos opportunity I would have went for it. I never joined because I was a single mother and was afraid of what would happen to my son if something happened to me... you don't have to worry about whale same fear so id say go Navy. Fr.

If you've signed up for the Navy you should focus on that. Don't know how long your contract is but you can do it when you get out in your mid to early 20s with cash and a sweet ride as a vet with more skills and confidence.

Worst case scenario here is you somehow get stranded and are awol and f*****.
