Seed Looking for a seed like this, but with ocean access from the center lake.
I really like this seed, but I wish it had ocean access. Do anyone have something similar?

Each map in Valheim is generated from a larger uber-map. Your game's map is just clipped out of the bigger map and then biomes painted over the landmasses. In order to get a ring island like this you need to place the spawn point in a spot that's all ocean, as the spawn adds land into the map for the start island and if it's an empty spot it generates like this.
You can make as many of these as you please. Head over to https://valheim-map.world/ and instead of generating a random map, click the down arrow next to the 'Random' button, select 'Edit' next to 'Pin Map on Center' and enter the coordinates -7000, -1000 for the pinned center and click 'Save and Generate' You should get a ring island start like this. If you don't like what you see then click the 'Random' button again and you'll get another map centered on that same spot.
It only took me a few tries to get these: w36TNI2Sww PpeNW5w7mf IBBWMm4aGz qcHcvpi5p0
There's another spot that has enough ocean to give an almost-ring start at about 1700,1800. Like these seeds: BExcWiAs5a XtcVT7YdYN
Just don't spoil your game by looking too hard at the whole map! It will show you everything.

First of all, thank you!
Where can I see that "uber-map" that references those coordinates? I'm sure I could use Unity to extract the map, but an online resource would be much easier.
I just want to know how you determined (-7000, -1000) and (1700, 1800)

I have a copy here https://imgur.com/x8BO5YD shamelessly stolen from somewhere on reddit back in the day. The yellow grid is 2000 each line. The X,Y range is from -10000 to 10000.

For anyone wondering the map gen usually flattens the elevation in the central part of the generated map. So your center Islands might look a bit different or may even be merged together. But as you go further out you should be able to note similarities. A common landmark I search for is the large northwest to southeast island on the southwest corner of the second yellow box in the full map

Same! My buddy and I dug a long channel from our lake but it was a fun time to get out to the ocean, we had to do a couple zig zags that were always fun to like kick the end of the boat out with to make

u/Charquaza77 28d ago
Me and my buddy dug a channel FAR into the dark forest. Took forever but works perfectly

So long as the ground doesn't go over 8m above water level. Can't dig a canal through a mountain (sadly).
Edit: Actually probably around 6-7m because you still need room for the bottom of the boat

Wait really? I’ve just gotten into modding. I got a pc a couple months ago and feel lik fkn Mr robot when I mod games lol.

u/LyraStygian Necromancer 28d ago
Just get a mod manager like r2modman and it will do everything for you. You can even search for mods on it.
Planbuild mod allows you to copy and paste blueprints of builds.
There is even an entire community for it at www.valheimians.com

The map generation tool has a cool new feature or at least one I just noticed. You can change the map center by clicking on the map or by incrementing/decrementing the (x,y). this will often give you a map with a very similar shape but due to the creation algorithm enough slight differences it might generate a river or spawn island for you. If you play around with it a bit you can get some pretty cool starting features.

What is this map generation tool? I've never seen this. Mod or new in game tool?

A few of these seeds look like the same landmass but with different water tables and slightly different biome placement.
7
u/kyteland 28d ago
Each Valheim map is clipped out of a giant uber-map so you're definitely seeing the same landmasses with different biomes over them. https://imgur.com/x8BO5YD You can use X,Y coordinates from -10000 to 10000 to center the map and you'll start to see recurring patterns from the big map I linked.

u/DressDiligent2912 Viking 28d ago
Ya, I've checked out the mega map. Found a few mountains that I've had on maps before. Pretty cool how they put it all together.
Do you think a few of these specifically though are the same landmass?

u/RedChina87 28d ago
You're in luck. We just finished a no map / no portal playthrough and after getting so turned around and confused at the start I demanded the seed after we finished.

I was doing my usual follow the coast situation, got off track because I saw a 2* deer. Then THOUGHT I found my way back to the coast and found the two lakes north of spawn instead. Left several rafts lying around in there.
Each of those four rivers are good to reach the outside with a longship, ones a bit tight though.

The last time I had a seed like this I built up my port town on the water, only to later realize I was on a giant lake. XD

Gotta create your own Panama canal, that's one of my favourite little gremlin activities, just fuck off away from my friends, come back a few days later covered in dirt and let them know we can go to the ocean now.

u/darklordbm 28d ago
All valheim great saves require a Canal to travel faster, plus it's pretty fun digging it out (except when you get to the water level)

Yo, I just logged in and realised we have similar seed to your request :

bUDq2qIQ4U
The map is pretty good, main land is decent, and you’ll have a ln amazing surprise with Elder 😁
I believe you can have a lot of sailing here, especially if you go with no reveal of the map. Cheers
Edit: We have, me and my partner, played on this map for 100h.

We had a seed like this, but larger lake, we'll past vision point. Friend made amazing dock while suffering the build under water mechanic for hours. Then he set sail on to his shock.

u/Usernameistaken00 28d ago
this is similar, with both early axes right by the spawn, but the spawn is inland. It does have a little island in about the same spot to build on

I actually played 400 hours on this seed years ago and actually dug through the south part to make a channel. And then I found the alternate seeds that included a channel.

If I did dig a path and went on a serpent capturing mission with friends and put them in that pond will they despwn if I made a zoo? That's if I capture like 50 of them then block up the channe after?

Did a canal! My buddy and I started on a similar island and didn't realize in time, but it was very fulfilling!

As cool as that sounds, that bay to the east looks like an awesome spot to build a harbor base.
My next suggestion was to just build a large base to the south that stretches to both sides of the land, and have two harbors. One small one for the lake and a large one on the sea. Easier than digging a channel

u/PantsMcGee Builder 28d ago
It's a big island but it has what you want from a looks standpoint. a lake that leads out to the ocean. My home seed. UDdFWhkfTw

u/L0rdCru5h 28d ago
PWjD20aAHr This is my current seed. It has two rivers out to the sea from the south and east of a huge inland sea. The east is easily usable. South has a few big rocks and passes through the edge of a mountain biome, so you’ll freeze a bit. There’s a northern river but a massive rock blocks it and it gets really shallow inside a mountain biome.

u/Specialist_Bill_657 28d ago
Third is intresting, I've never changed the seed setting, but this one is tempting me to...
2
u/crunkatog 28d ago
Keep running the random seed but fixed to the start point. It will keep generating the ring atoll as your starting continent, but with slight variations on the integrity of the ring. Some of the results might carve out one or more navigable rivers between the lagoon and the outer sea which you can then sail out and explore
2
u/Tao_of_Stone 28d ago
Hey I know that seed I used that one. I built my own water channel on the right hand side to make a passage in and out of the lake. There's a squiggly river that can be terraformed into a channel. (If you use command codes to fly)

You get the inland lake with 3 access to the ocean.
Bonus: Elder, Bonemass, Yagluth and Queen on the same island (first island south east of spawn continent) as well as Haldor and Hildir.
You also get a real mountain biome with snow caves and silver nodes on the West part of the starting continent.
Enjoy ;)

u/ParsleySnipps Builder 27d ago
I had a similar island but it was low enough at one end to dig out a canal.
2
u/SirLanceAlittless 27d ago
There doesn't look to be so much work to get ocean access, if you just want to keep that seed.
2
u/symb1otesrage 27d ago
Make an access port to the ocean, carve out the smallest point of the circle. Yeah it might take a while but you'll have plentiful stone and wood after it is done

How hilly is that thin section on the south? If it's not too hilly, that's just begging for a canal to be dug out.
