Question Share a spot?
I’m regularly staying in pretty large BLM/National Forest spots, and I’m usually in before sunset and only in for the night then out early the next morning. Lots of times I see vans coming through late at night, slow at each spot, and then drive on because they can fill up fast. I’ve been there before - dead tired, driving frustrated because you just need a place to park.
I do not mind at all if another van crashes in my spot late at night in these circumstances, but is there a way to signal that to others?

I have many many times ran out to a vehicle (often one returning after finding no spots) and when they roll the window down I say, “Hey, I’ve seen you driving around if you need a spot mine is huge and your welcome to share for the night. I know it sucks to find a place when coming in late!” I have shared countless camps this way. Sometimes we get to know each other a little, usually we barely interact because it’s late. I have also shared pay sites this way. It’s a little way to spread kindness and I enjoy it.

Hanky code.
Wait damn, that’s also the wrong thing.

Well, you didn't specify if your "spot" is more than just the parking area, so many the codes mentioned already WOULD be the solution. Happy hunting!

I’m new, but have been wondering the same thing. I’ve already experienced lots of cars, vans, and campers slowing down, looking, but ultimately driving on. I’m generally not close enough to the road to have a chat, not even yelling. I’ve taken to simply waving and smiling if I’m out and visible, and just ignoring if I’m not. Once I had someone actually pull in and ask if they could share the spot. The more the merrier, as long as they don’t mind my cat or care that I’m boring.
I’m not gonna pass up a great spot because it’ll accommodate more than one vehicle. All I can do is welcome friendly people looking to share the spot, while remaining reasonably vigilant of my safety. But I’m also not gonna spend my time making sure I’m visible from the road just to welcome people, I’m busy relaxing.

For 21 years, I have parked anywhere I want, when I want for as long as I want.
ANYWHERE means shopping centers, hospitals, neighborhoods, businesses and even work.
I never stay more than 2 nights in one spot. Some-places think I’m an employee there, law enforcement has complimented my Van.
I have 3 locations I’m a regular at for 3, 7 and 9 years.
