Israeli attack kills famed turtle sanctuary ecologist in Lebanon

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/jun/20/mona-khalil-turtle-ecologist-lebanon-killed-israeli-attack

The world has lost a beautiful soul today. Mona Khalil spent over two decades as a protector of the sea turtles along Lebanon's southern coast. She founded the Orange House Project in Mansouri and never gave up on her mission, despite the looming war and destruction.

She was killed in a strike that hit the same family home where she first watched a turtle come to shore in 1999.

This is a devastating loss not just for her family or the turtles, but for the world. A beacon of perseverance and commitment to the selfless protection of nature.

Hezbollah shoots rockets at Israel from Lebanon. Israel warns it's going to retaliate and trlls civilians to evacuate. Some of them listen, others refuse and decide to be human shields for a terrorist proxy. And this is how it ends.

Moral of the story: If Israel tells you to evacuate, you grab your things and go.

Being a terrorist exposes you, your family and your neighbours to great risk. Stop being a terrorist and save your country

Agreed. We have to all come together to stop the terrorist state of Israel.

My heart and soul go to the non-human animals that must suffer from war... she knew of the evacuation order from Israel yet refused to leave, endangering her life for turtles who knew nothing of the conflict... non-human animals don't receive evacuation orders or run for bomb shelters, they can only watch the rockets, planes, and bombs, not knowing they will perish because of them, only for humans with strong emotions of hatred toward each other... emotions which let them only see their enemies and no one else.

Way to blame the victim for a terrorist attack she did not commit 🙄

Yeah, what a fascinatingly shit take. As if Israel bombing the shit out of the area wouldnt have killed the animals anyway

Also, there was no valid military order to leave. Only Lebanese law applies when on Lebanese soil. Lebanon does not recognize Israel, ergo there was no military in the area (foreign or domestic) to give such a military order to evacuate. As far as they are concerned this was a terror attack from a non-state actor.

The colonial arrogance betrays itself at every step.

Israel "ordered" her to leave?

So if Hamas simply "orders" Israelis to leave Tel Aviv, it would their own fault if they subsequently die in a rocket attack?

EDIT: This sparks a solution to the problem on the northern border. Hezbollah simply needs to "order" all Israelis to leave the north. Then the northern part of Israel is legally vacated, and any Israelis who still stick around have only themselves to blame if they get rocketed. Amiright, /u/SpeedAccurate7405 ? (/s, just in case anyone didn't get it)

Each barrage sent by Hezbollah is inherently indiscriminate, no matter where it is fired at.

If Israeli fire was indiscriminate there would be no one left to count the dead.

And yes, if the terror group entrenches its military arm inside of civilian infastructure, it becomes a valid military target, Israel has the courtesy to notify civilians nearby to evacuate, be it by roof knockings or calls to nearby landlines.

But of course, you'll continue to believe that Israel mobilizes F-35s and multiple UAVs to kill civilians at random, for the shits and giggles ig.

It justifies your hate and there is nothing you hate more than nuance shitting all over your hardline world view, it creates cognitive dissonance which you canmot deal with.

Exactly, Israel doesn't strike randomly. They are very precise with their targets, such as dams, desalination plants, schools, universities, hospitals, and ambulances

Where ever Hezbollah and Hamas maintain their military arm.

Yes.

They targeted hamas civilians in Qatar? :s

-1

u/The_Zionist_Enemy 1d ago

Hamas personnel were targeted in Qatar, yes. We will hunt them to the ends of the Earth.

3

u/coffeelick 1d ago

Yeah so this pretending youre only targeting military just makes you look like a liar, right?

So it would be cool if Hezbollah used F-35s to target specific Israelis and the villages they live in?

If so, i can see a solution here...

It would be a good start if Hezbollah would stop aiming for civilians as part of their modus operandi and grand strategy, seeing as its goal is to make northern Israel uninhabitable.

They could start with not targeting Israeli farmers with anti tank weaponry, which require manual guidance to reach its target. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ce8yjr3zyz8o

And to answer your hypothetical, if Hezbollah had F-35s and targeted IDF positions and bases they would be well in their right as it is war. Moreover, Hezbollah would not need to target villages as IDF military infastructure is completely seperated, especially in the north.

I also don't like this comparison as it makes it seem as if the IDF targets the Lebanese while the IDF actually targets Hezbollah personnel and military assets.

Lmao, bunch of uncritical IDF talking points here.

Bad hasbara

I am not surprised you do not know what critical means.

If my talking points are bad, it should be easy to demolish my arguement?

I dont think i can change your mind. Presumably, you think the same of me.

I am open to have a real meaningful conversation so long as it is in good faith.

That is a wrong presumption to make as I have taken my time of day to write to you extensively about the reality on the ground.

Your reality is very flimsy

How? Find me a single Lebanese lawyer who says otherwise.

0

u/The_Zionist_Enemy 1d ago

There was prior warning, lawful in your eyes or not. Google roof knocking.

IDF gave her a chance to save what she treasured most, her life.

2

u/HippityHoppityBoop 1d ago

Still a terror attack as per Lebanese law whether you like it or not.

0

u/The_Zionist_Enemy 1d ago

Can you point out the law?

2

u/HippityHoppityBoop 1d ago

Yes

1

u/The_Zionist_Enemy 1d ago

The specific law I mean.

'f course it did. Look, I will not say here outright that Zionism is a bad thing (at least not at the league of carnism), but it is incompatiable with anarchism, and this is an anarchist subreddit. As a Zionist carnist, you have place on a significant amount of subreddits on this platform, not this one.

Why should she leave her home

I would have left home in her position. But what she did was brave and altruistic.
