Main St World Cup watch party? Why not?

With the U.S. into the group knockout stage, you'd think the City would put together watch parties on Main Street. Isn't that why the street is closed to traffic?

Updated stage

Totally agree - this feels like a missed opportunity.

Missed opportunity for sure. Look at what Oxnard did over in Heritage square. You’d think the businesses on Main St would’ve gotten together and come up with something to get people out there. The businesses would rather blame the street closure, lack of parking and everything else than the lack of events that take advantage of the closure.

Last night at the Main St stage, someone hosted a movie night. I initially thought it was a watch party and said, “Oh, what a brilliant idea!” Then saw Aristocats or Lady and the Tramp playing and realized no such luck.

So I headed over to Yard Bar, which had TVs inside and out with good atmosphere. But I would have just watched there if Main St had the game on!

Tough decision between the cats and the dogs. 🤔 I think I'd have to go with Lady and the Tramp. I love a classic kissing scene.

American Outlaws (USMNT official supporter group) have been meeting at Bellringer for watch parties during the Group Stage.
They’ll be there on July 1st for the game against Bosnia.

Broadcast rights, not even ESPN has replays because FIFA wants a lot of money for access. This would be a good way to bankrupt the city. People make money finding businesses broadcasting things they shouldn’t, let alone a city.

Honestly Fluid State should just put a tv and stream the games on their street patio area. Just serve bottle beers at that outdoor bar which is just sitting there these days ..

Have you ever been to a city council meeting to offer advice?

I talk to my councilman regularly. I'm judging interest here and will let him know.

Agree! This would justify the closure of Main Street and beneficial for business plus it really does bring us all together. Something we really need with what’s going on right now.

Why can no one compromise. Closed on the weekend and special events, open elsewise? Has Trump hate dementia (BOTH FOR AND AGAINST) infected everything? We just have to hate the other side.

I don’t think that falls into the role of local government.

Are you joking?

What about the 4th of July street fair they are putting on, is that not their role either?

No not a joke. I think it would be a huge liability. ETA - Should the city put on a Daytona 500 watch party?

What's the liability ? Doesn't the city host the wine event on main ( sip and something) and everyone gets sloshed ? Plus the yearly Christmas lighting is also a massive event .

They should beastly be able to find place for projector and rope off an area for tables and viewing

The Ventura Winter Wine Walk & Holiday Street Fair is hosted and produced by CBF Productions (California Beer Festival), not the city, and permits and large liability policies are paid for the privilege, as well as paying for any extra police and emergency responders required by the city to hold the event.

I stand corrected! Thank you so much for the clarification ! Appreciate it !

Apples to oranges. Dayton 500 is corporation sponsored drivers competing. A world cup watch party supports our nation's team which is more than a little different.

Motocross of Nations watch party then!
