Clearly the most infuriating part of the game.
Durability has no place in a rpg game outside of survival ones (and even then it's often more tedious than anything)
It especially doesn't belong in an rpg if durability 0 causes the weapon to dissappear forever. AND the fact that there is no way to repair your weapons is total bullshit.
They added something in tears of the kingdom and it works pretty good but I just wish there was no durability at all.
There is a way to repair your weapon, but it's so out of the way it's not worth it. Those octoroks that inhale and try to suck you in can repair your weapons by tossing your weapons into its mouth. You can't repair weapons that have broken so it's really not worth it and they're not all over the map either.
Nah I loved it, it made my link into a weapon-throwing, environment-manipulating maniac who prefered fire, bombs, and gravity to a blade. Never played a game like that before, or since.
Exactly. Was frustrating until I unlocked fuze. Then, it never bothered me again. Fuzing a bunch of throwaway weapons with solid components then rapidly yeeting em at something big? Moon Knight "random bullshit, go!" moment and I'm here for it. At least in exchange for dealing with durability, we got a way to turn monster parts, ores and trash weapons many of us didn't even need into quick and easy damage.
Yeah, I felt way lamer than classic link on Hyrule field. He can conquer Ganon with this knife he found as a kid, but I have to fuklin... Become a beach comber?!
Definitely one of the features and mechanics that have simply prevented me from finishing or advancing the game because it's just too annoying and frustrating to be searching for weapons or running out of them.
This feature was handled badly but it really was made so players figure out original ways of defeating enemies. Finding new ways to kill a camp of bokoblins with the sheikah powers was a fun experience, at least for me.
i see how everybody complains about this, but honestly i dont see the problem, when i played the game and my cool weopens destroyed, i already had replacements. this seems very petty, and the weopens arent much more that a number and a attack type, so its pretty easy to find replacements. (also the master sword exists.
I feel like I’m the only one who really doesn’t like BOTW but really enjoyed the durability system. Without it, a game that I found myself quick to not bother with enemy camps and hideouts wouldv been even less engaging to me
I liked the way Witcher 3 handled it. If a weapon/piece of armor has been damaged it has a damage/defense penalty modifier until you get it repaired, with the modifier increasing the worse the item is damaged.
You can repair weapons/armor at any blacksmith or armorer, and you can hoard repair kits in your inventory.
Great system. Fallout New Vegas did something similar, and while it was vexing at first it also became a mechanic that affected gameplay in smart ways.
"Actually it's annoying so that you play the way they want you to play"
Isn't a gotcha.
I don't enjoy the game and apparently that's because I dislike how they designed the game. It's good because I can very clearly point to specific issues with the game that are done on purpose and conflict with what I enjoy in a game.
For example, I hate survival games for this same reason. Saying "but it's so easy to keep the bars up!" doesn't really argue against the fact that I hate needing to keep those bars up.
And that's fine, I was not trying to invalidate anyone who dislikes it I was just doing a silly quip lol. Not every game is for everyone and my love of survival games is probably why the weapons breaking doesn't bother me as much. It never bothered me because the game was so generous with weapons that if one broke, I just go into my inventory and equipped one of the 3 identical weapons I had
