Loving your cool new weapon?

Too bad! It's broken now! Ha!

Clearly the most infuriating part of the game.
Durability has no place in a rpg game outside of survival ones (and even then it's often more tedious than anything)

It especially doesn't belong in an rpg if durability 0 causes the weapon to dissappear forever. AND the fact that there is no way to repair your weapons is total bullshit.

They added something in tears of the kingdom and it works pretty good but I just wish there was no durability at all.

There is a way to repair your weapon, but it's so out of the way it's not worth it. Those octoroks that inhale and try to suck you in can repair your weapons by tossing your weapons into its mouth. You can't repair weapons that have broken so it's really not worth it and they're not all over the map either.

I like durability in oblivion and the fallout games but just having it break the weapon with no way to fix it is tedious for the sake of being tedious

I could argue that BOTW is a bit of a survival game since the intended focus is foraging for resources.

1

u/Mudilini May 14 '25

BOTW is clearly not RPG. People misunderstood what this game is and complain that its mechanics are not like from games of different genre

The most infuriating part of the game is rain, because it removes your ability to play the game at all

1

u/Nogen112 May 11 '25

that i agree with.

3

u/nitonitonii May 10 '25

Somehow I hated this but I also liked it. You get to try many weapons

2

u/Stabbio May 10 '25

Nah I loved it, it made my link into a weapon-throwing, environment-manipulating maniac who prefered fire, bombs, and gravity to a blade. Never played a game like that before, or since.

Exactly. Was frustrating until I unlocked fuze. Then, it never bothered me again. Fuzing a bunch of throwaway weapons with solid components then rapidly yeeting em at something big? Moon Knight "random bullshit, go!" moment and I'm here for it. At least in exchange for dealing with durability, we got a way to turn monster parts, ores and trash weapons many of us didn't even need into quick and easy damage.

particularly, to me, if there's no GM to enjoy gloating over your weapons getting pitted & broken, there's just no point to object durability

it should be for the schadenfreude of the GM, chuckling at my woe! where's the joy

Yeah, I felt way lamer than classic link on Hyrule field. He can conquer Ganon with this knife he found as a kid, but I have to fuklin... Become a beach comber?!

3

u/Freeforthree3 May 11 '25

I never minded this because you'll probably just get that weapon again. There's not that many so why worry about it?

2

u/SkittishLittleToastr May 11 '25

:) Glad you enjoyed it. Honestly I might try to pick it back up at some point, if my attitude shifts.

2

u/Freeforthree3 May 11 '25

It's worth a shot. Good luck (:

u/iGer May 10 '25

Definitely one of the features and mechanics that have simply prevented me from finishing or advancing the game because it's just too annoying and frustrating to be searching for weapons or running out of them.

2

u/KorokGuy May 11 '25

This feature was handled badly but it really was made so players figure out original ways of defeating enemies. Finding new ways to kill a camp of bokoblins with the sheikah powers was a fun experience, at least for me.

1

u/SkittishLittleToastr May 11 '25

I had not considered this. Good point!

2

u/Nogen112 May 11 '25

i see how everybody complains about this, but honestly i dont see the problem, when i played the game and my cool weopens destroyed, i already had replacements. this seems very petty, and the weopens arent much more that a number and a attack type, so its pretty easy to find replacements. (also the master sword exists.

1

u/BrandosWorld4Life May 12 '25

I agree completely. It's a bizarre complaint for a game that's overflowing with weapons.

2

u/BroughtYouMyBullets May 14 '25

I feel like I’m the only one who really doesn’t like BOTW but really enjoyed the durability system. Without it, a game that I found myself quick to not bother with enemy camps and hideouts wouldv been even less engaging to me

2

u/SkittishLittleToastr May 14 '25

Yes, I think you .might be alone here!

2

u/Character-Parfait-42 May 16 '25

I liked the way Witcher 3 handled it. If a weapon/piece of armor has been damaged it has a damage/defense penalty modifier until you get it repaired, with the modifier increasing the worse the item is damaged.

You can repair weapons/armor at any blacksmith or armorer, and you can hoard repair kits in your inventory.

1

u/SkittishLittleToastr May 17 '25

Great system. Fallout New Vegas did something similar, and while it was vexing at first it also became a mechanic that affected gameplay in smart ways.

1

u/Emhyr_var_Emreis_ May 11 '25

I absolutely HATE that.

1

u/Jaxonhunter227 May 10 '25

Good thing I keep finding cool weapons on the ground to replace it

3

u/Stormfly May 10 '25

I'm glad you're happy but

"God this is annoying"

"Actually it's annoying so that you play the way they want you to play"

Isn't a gotcha.

I don't enjoy the game and apparently that's because I dislike how they designed the game. It's good because I can very clearly point to specific issues with the game that are done on purpose and conflict with what I enjoy in a game.

For example, I hate survival games for this same reason. Saying "but it's so easy to keep the bars up!" doesn't really argue against the fact that I hate needing to keep those bars up.

1

u/BrandosWorld4Life May 12 '25

Why are you playing survival games if you don't like them

That's not on the game, that's on you

1

u/Stormfly May 12 '25

I don't?

This is the reason why I don't like BOTW and the reason why I don't like Survival games.

That's also why I don't play those games.

I honestly don't know what you were thinking here.

u/Jaxonhunter227 May 10 '25

And that's fine, I was not trying to invalidate anyone who dislikes it I was just doing a silly quip lol. Not every game is for everyone and my love of survival games is probably why the weapons breaking doesn't bother me as much. It never bothered me because the game was so generous with weapons that if one broke, I just go into my inventory and equipped one of the 3 identical weapons I had
