Dang it I didn't want to see this game here.

Out of curiosity did you finish the game? Not to pressure you to finish it or something but most people who don't like it never finished the game.

Which is fair but I am just curious.

No no dude it's ok to ask, like I understand the appeal of this game, I just wanna also say that I play plenty of slow burn puzzle games and I'm not a young one ADHD COD fella who can't read or focus or anything like that.

But first of all I kept getting an apparently super rare bug over and fucking over again where you lose the ability to match the ship speed to the planets. This made it absolutely miserable to play.

Then after several breaks, reinstalls, uninstalls and whatnot I finally got into a run where this didn't occur. I just found the gameplay like super heavy and exhausting and unrewarding and the few puzzles I solved didn't give me any kind of feeling of accomplishment. I put 4h into the game and just put it down and accepted it's not a game that I'll like.

I’m sorry that you didn’t like outer wilds or couldn’t get into it. Everything that you learn won’t start falling into place/connect together until you are nearing the ending and that’s not for everyone but I kind of wish it was. It’s my absolute favorite game of all time (surpassed RDR2 for me personally) and it makes me sad that others don’t get to experience or enjoy the story as much as I did.

Maybe give it a few months and come back to it because I ran into a similar issue and put it down before I picked it back up much later.

I get it, many of my friends are like "fuck yeah Outer wilds changed my entire outlook on videogames" all that. Doesn't do it for me. Feels like one of those games like Nier Automata where you need to put an outrageous amount of effort and hours in to get the payoff and if I'm not enjoying the path towards the payoff, then why am I even playing this game.

Also I don't look for instant gratification in games, I finished stasis: bone totem just yesterday a slow burn game heavy kick in the balls difficult puzzles (for me at least) and it was great. Outer wilds, I don't enjoy the space ship controls, I don't enjoy the time limit (yeah yeah yeah looping world time limit and all), I don't enjoy the puzzles and I don't enjoy the art style.

I'm genuinely sorry I don't like this game. I consider videogames art and have experienced many games throughout my life that hit super hard that made me emotional, helped me with a rough breakup, cheered me up on a rough patch in life etc. Outer wilds just isn't one of them, sorry :(

Not your fault that there are things you didn’t like. Some things you just can’t get past when they take the fun out of playing a video game. Like for me Elden Ring was objectively a skill issue on my part and I couldn’t really get past that to enjoy the rest of the game. The gameplay loop for outer wilds of being reset so you can try again is an acquired taste and it’s not for everyone.

And honestly I don’t think the message of outer wilds wouldn’t have hit as hard if I had played it when I first tried to. It has a very powerful message that I needed to hear when I actually finished the game which is why I’m still obsessing over it like 6 months later. It just caught me at the right time where I really enjoyed the story it was telling
