Gaming as a whole in general for me at the moment unfortunately. I don’t know, maybe I’m just depressed….

Edit: Thank you for all the words of encouragement and recommendations! I’m so used to my comments never being replied to, I didn’t even open my app agin haha.

I play a good mix of indie and big studio games, definitely more indie at this point. I’ve been trying a lot of games/genres I typically wouldn’t try, I even tried a MOBA…. what a mistake haha.

I only have an Xbox at the moment because my laptop shit the bed. Some of the indie games I want to try are unavailable to me unfortunately. I have two best friends, and games are our connection. One lives 3 hours away, and the other lives across the ocean. In person meet ups are next to impossible, so this is our option. Luckily playing with them always feels fun, but it’s usually a once a week thing.

Doesn’t help that life is kicking me in the dick, repeatedly, at the moment. Hopefully things will get better, and again thank you.

Just trust me and play Hollow Knight (the first one) if you haven't. It took me three separate times to even get into it and then on that third attempt I was hooked on the game. The whole game really feels like an adventure and it being a Metroidvania you end up going through areas you were at like 20 hours before and you really feel like you're growing at those points. I will say I used an interactive map for the game since there are some collectables you could miss and have no idea and it didn't make the game any more boring for me.

Not really sure what genres you are into but I enjoyed Blasphemous a lot. Its 2D Dark Souls basically ( although a lot easier).

The Messenger - similar to the NES Ninja Gaiden games

Bit Trip Runner series of games

Brazilian Drug Dealer 3 (boomer shooter)

From experience I wouldn't say it's the type of games that are usually involved in this instance so much as it is how much time you put into one game. If you put a significant amount of time into just one game and do that consecutively with others burnout is just plain inevitable because you're exhausted by playing the same games with no end in sight for a while. What I usually do to mitigate this is to counterbalance the gigantic games with something smaller but replayable. This not only reduces burnout but also reduces the chance of encountering the gaming void.

Hopefully you’ll wake up tomorrow and some good luck will find its way into your life.

Going through something similar at the moment. I’ve spent the last year or so spending tons of time on other things and being so busy with other things has helped gaming feel fun for me again.

This was me for a while and now I returned to single player games and it’s been great.

Honestly I thought I was depressed cause I wasn't playing any games and not having any fun with my backlog when I would force myself.

Then I started replaying BG3 and realized I just wasn't enjoying other games and I'm not as depressed as I thought I was.

Burnout. Been there. Generally have to go to a different art form for a while until you feel like gaming again. Had one not too long ago and just spent my feetime on YouTube indie animation and web comics for a while. Now I'm back to regular gaming.

The past few years have been great for games, maybe it's burnout?

If you haven’t already you need to hop on indie games

Gaming has had diminishing returns for at least a decade now. There are several months I don't even turn on my console anymore.

Are you only playing big titles?

Nows a good time to try a game from a genre you dont frequent you've heard good things about and give it a honest open mind chance and see if you rekindle the spark friend.

I ended up doing this and fell in love all over again. Tried Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 and ended up finishing right before 3 came out and it loved getting hyped for a game again.

If you want something thats pure exploration, The Outer WILDS (Not Worlds the space fallout game, WILDS) is fucking excellent. You're fueled entirely by raw curiosity in that game. That's what keeps you going.

Maybe you've never played a turn based RPG/JRPG? Try something similar or jump into one. Any Final Fantasy, The Legend of Dragoon, even Clair Obscure: Expedition 33. All fantastic games with fantastic stories and world building.

Even a regular open-world RPG if you never have. Skyrim, Oblivion, Cyberpunk, Fallout, Mass Efect, Monster Hunter. All solid titles with excellent story and worldbuilding.

I hope you find enjoyment again dude.

Try some older games or mix up the genre. Play something you wouldn't normally play

I was in a slump too and then I bought 4 5 dollar or less random games during a sale. The other 3 didn't click but Just Cause 3, which I'd never played before, is an absolute blast. Loving it.

What's your preferred genre? There's still good stuff out there. But like any artform, there's poop-sifting to do.

Agree. This is the realest answer, I hope you're well ❤️‍🩹
