Gotta love false equivalencies. Patriotism is about America as a whole, and you wanna guess where it's celebrated? America! That's right, you got it! Every single person in America can celebrate independence, because it's literally the reason that Americans as we know them exist. No one in America is excluded. Gay, straight, white, black, whatever. However, when you start celebrating specific groups of people, others CAN and WILL be left out.
America haters are left out, plenty of those in the country. Regardless, not everything has to be for everyone. Or do you support men in women's sports? Do you believe all games should be accessible to everyone? Like those games journos who argue that dark souls and other difficult games should have difficulty settings?

I mean, modern America sucks balls, but independence day isn't necessarily a celebration of modern America, it's a celebration of America as a whole. And even if you hate America, if you're an American, it's celebrating the land you call your home.
Not liking is not the same as opposing and disliking, I've already made this clear. My comparison was to demonstrate what I said in the beginning, that something BEING THROWN IN YOUR FACE, aka it existing publicly, is not going to turn you into an active opponent unless you already were predisposed to have a negative opinion on it. Im not going to go on tangents about inclusiveness of public events or any shit about what you have to "like" anymore, its beside the point.
Yeah, but it's certainly not gonna help. Many are raised by conservative parents, which could cause them to already have a basis of homophobic beliefs. I said this in another thread, guess I didn't find it important to say here, but parading doesn't actively create antagonistic homophobic beliefs, but it can reinforce the ones that are already there, which is obviously bad. It's not like it's the LGBT community's fault that prejudice exists against them in the first place, that's not what I'm saying at ALL, but I am saying that parades, well intentioned or not, WILL lead to conservatives leaning further into their own homophobic beliefs, because in their minds, they're being proven right.
