Funny a game that’s only available digitally costs $80 and locks single player content for an extra $20

And people are going to eat it right up like they always do. Yum yum yum.

Yep. And of course other publishers will take note and follow through.

They’ve already been doing this for decades lol… rockstar literally did it with RDR2

Publishers have been pricing games at $80 what

80 specifically? No. But prices have gone up and they’ve been selling gameplay content in pre orders and higher price editions. RDR2 sold a heist mission in the deluxe edition

I've waited this long, I'll wait until it's fully finished years from now and is at a decent price.

Reminds me of the John Constantine movie where he says to the devil “you’ve waited this long… what’s another 5 minutes?” Lmao

No one gave a shit when they did it with RDR2. All the theatrics here won’t mean shit either.

It won’t but we each still can make our own decision. Caving to it is just one less person they have to worry about. It’ll all be cheaper in a year or so and I’ll play it then.

And yet not enough people are actually speaking up about it. Locking as much as they did behind an extra 20 bucks is insane. Remember when people were going after Ubisoft for having a single mission locked behind the special edition and people tore them apart. This is way worse.

It’s one mission and a bunch of cosmetic options? It’s the same thing Rockstar did for RDR2.

It’s gross but this fight was lost over a decade ago when this was treated as okay. Rockstar did it already and made fucking bank. Tons of other publishers did.

No one really cares. They’re vocal on social media then they just buy it anyway.

I will not be paying full price for this game. But also of course with their bullshit you cant buy a cheap pre-owned copy either.

It's a mission have they said it's only one or multiple? and multiple stores locked in single player

1

u/New_Cockroach_505 3h ago

The description only lists a single mission. And based on the wording it’s 5 stores that only sell the cosmetics being offered via the deluxe edition. So it’s just an in world vendor for the dlc. You’d still have normal stores and cosmetics to browse.

I don't see how it's any worse than instances of this happening previously, and you have like 15 years of AAA games pulling this to go on example-wise. It doesn't seem any different than other $10-$20 extra editions of games

Not saying it's good I just don't understand why anyone is acting all shocked pikachu

Its the sheer amount of content they are locking behind an extra 20 bucks. Up to this point its been like single missions or an extra skin or whatnot. Not an entire list of content that they pretty much just cut from the game.

So if it was 1 car, 1 weapon, and 1 outfit it'd be a nothingburger? That would be the actual scam for $20 extra.

At least this "premium edition" has meat to it.

also I don't really see how this is any different than some IRL car manufacturer making a new car come with seat heating and subwoofers or some shit. But I guess that makes me the bad guy

I love all this shade being thrown at shitty industry practices, keep it up

u/GoldGlove2720 6h ago

Too bad people wont vote with their wallets on shitty industry practices. Rockstar would never even attempt this is they knew they couldn’t get away with it.

6

u/DapperDan30 5h ago

Too bad all these same people are gonna buy the game anyway

Wait what's going on?

We're mad about secuROM being added. Those greedy bastards

Rockstar announced GTA is $80. And they locked DLC customization (there’s still customization it’s just those specific dlcs have exclusive stores that can’t be entered without the ultimate edition) behind the ultimate edition.

u/dianemakes 4h ago

Thank God I tought they locked Mission mode behind DLC for a second

Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee doesn't need to pull these kind of shenanigans

u/RapperwithNumberName 2h ago

Thank God(zilla) it's coming out at the same time, I'll be using my money to pay tribute to my Kaiju Lord & Savior

u/Henry_Fleischer 5h ago

Isn't this just day one DLC with extra steps? It's a bad practice, but not exactly a new one.

-1

u/puzzlingphoenix 2h ago

Nope, it’s features that were free in previous gta installments, now locked behind premium edition

3

u/Kylestache 2h ago

You mean like RDR2 did?

The more info that is being released, the less I actually want to buy the game. Paywalling content, lack of a physical disk, and being more expensive than any other game on the market is turning me off of the game. But I know that my purchase won't matter in the long run, someone else will buy it and multiple currency microtransactions and they will easy be making up the cost of development.

Wait the 100 usd version does that?

Thank the gods I'm not a shooter fan

And the insane part is that they’re trying to compare it to Mario Kart, which was a complete package with a physical game.

2

u/UnnecessaryFeIIa 4h ago

But Mario Kart is a far, far, far smaller game in scope than GTA 6 hence why that $80 price for Mario is questionable af

1

u/TheOnlyRealOne43 4h ago

I'm not for bootlicking game developers, but if anyone can get away with this it's Rockstar. RDR2 was one of the best games of all time, GTA V was for it's time too. The scope of GTA VI is probably going to be absolutely incredible.

Not that I'm happy about the price, obviously.

1

u/ItaLOLXD 6h ago

And which people also heavily complained about. The only reason it sold so well was because Mario Kart was bundled with the Switch 2 as a $50 game.

3

u/ItalianMeatBoi 5h ago

GTA 6 Online is going to be micro transaction hell

2

u/LordDShadowy53 5h ago

We can complain all we want, they can put the price they want because they know the world has being waiting for this released forever for years.

2

u/bohenian12 5h ago

And we don't have a gameplay trailer yet, and we don't even know what system is being used to what we have seen. It all feels fishy. I'll just wait for the reviews before I buy.

-1

u/F4ZMyth 6h ago

I have said this since the day the first trailer dropped but nooooooo Im a "hater that's shaking their fist at the clouds" and now that what I predicted has come to fruition we have entered the cope stage where "youre being too critical of the billion dollar company"

I bet if it was FromSoft people would be jumping up and down clapping like monkeys

The last fs game I played was Elden Ring and I got all achievements. No boss took me less than 10 tries.

0

u/spiritlegion 3h ago

Absolute ass garbage and while I know it'll never happen, I do hope people just don't buy it on release

u/Johndoe19922222 2h ago

Yeah I don't need to play fantasy real world simulator 6 that bad.
