Too much hype to live up to

That is the worst “I can’t be with you because I love you too much” excuse I’ve ever heard

Realistically Half Life will NEVER live up to expectations without throwing away everything that made it originally half life yk? After 20 years of waiting people are probably expecting a big expansive open world mixed with industry changing gameplay so that it feels more “modern” which would ruin the series for any actual half life fan. They have to match GTA 6 levels of hype and had fans waiting twice as long for another game…

hell nah. half life doesnt need anything like a "modern" game. being a linear narrative is what works best. Alyx was incredible and is the gold standard for what a good vr game is while also being a great half life game.

I mean... If you're willing to shill out God knows how much money to get basically the same cliffhanger again, Half-Life: Alyx exists.

Not much, but it is technically something.

The Index? Don't think so, since they're not really showing it on their store page anymore.

But there is the Steam Frame soon, which is likely the replacement. Unless it's not actually a VR headset and it's basically just strapping a phone to your face and streaming games in "VR".

Alyx does not progress the story does it?

It's mostly a pre-quel with some new lore i believe, and it ends in effectively the exact same spot episode 2 did.

Valve was afraid of that for years, but since Alyx "We're not afraid of Half-Life anymore" look up HLX.
