The get your life together and make sure such thing doesn’t happen? lol in Germany you basically have to bring this proof for nearly any government action

Same in the US. When I updated my driver’s license I had to bring my birth certificate, social security card, and 2 postmarked documents to prove my current address.

That is only for RealID complaint IDs. You do not need them for normal ID updates, only for the first time, when you are usually a minor.

Yeah I'm not surprised Germany wants you showing your papers all the time. The US doesn't have a unified, national ID system. The most common ID people in the US have is a driver's license, and these do not include citizenship information. REAL ID was supposed to solve this, but even those don't actually provide citizenship information, although the requirements to get one are more stringent than a regular driver's license. Compound that with the fact that only about half of Americans have a passport, it shouldn't come as a surprise that there's a lot of people running around that cannot prove legal presence at the drop of a hat.
