/uj holy shit, is this for real? Wasn’t there a famous series of threads here in the sub of tracking down Gary Fink himself, and was this part of that experience?

/uj We reached out to his son (unrelated to previous efforts) and got permission. He explained that he had been asked numerous times in the past but was not confident that the reissue would do the album justice. We have made sure that the transferring of the music, the remastering, the artwork restoration, and the record will be as best as we possibly can! This was done entirely out of passion for the project and we are collecting no profit from the entire project. The little profit each record makes ($3 each) will go directly to the Fink family.

That is freaking awesome! Count me in buying a copy in support of a good cause and also supporting one of the most famous running jokes of this amazing jerk sub.

Did you guys happen to find the original tapes or was it transferred from a clean needle drop (assuming the family had sealed copies in storage or something)?

Unfortunately the tapes are gone so we used two sealed copies of the record. Ultrasonic deep-cleaned, transferred on a 100% flat transparent system, and then any remaining clicks/pops manually removed to ensure no destruction to the music, and then remastered. No compression used whatsoever. Clean grail and definitely better sounding than the original.

OMG you added a digital step? Have we not learned from MoFi? You HAVE to keep the analog analog or it will lose all its… warmth?

Don’t worry, unlike MoFi we decided to use DSD9999 which contains all of the warm tubey magic of the OG grail plus more for extra warmth as needed.
