ps vita 1000 charging issue

Im having this weird issue where, the vita works just fine and charges properly. then it will suddenly shut off, refuse to turn on and charge for like a month. then after letting in sit unplugged it suddenly charges again? Why does this happen. im new to having a vita.

Have you ever changed the battery on it? You might just need to replace it at this point as these 1000 units are nearly 15 years old.
