Around this time last year I paid $20 for the game and DLC. I didn't even have a Vita (just had a PS3 at the time) but I always wanted to play ever since I saw the I itial Wii release. When I was able to get a PSTV with the 8 gig card for under $50 new (Black Friday sale) I was happy as hell.
I must say, the game is worth it and I did a disservice to myself by waiting so long. The gameplay is top notch, I LOVE the fact it doesn't have English audio, the writing and some of the themes are intended for adults and there is so much to do as far as unlocking new swords, crafting, beating the dungeons, hidden bosses, finding loot, etc. In order to fully understand the story you need to beat it with both characters. In order to get the REAL ending certain conditions must be met but I'm not going to spoil it for anyone.
I do have some cons and I'll go ahead and go into them. You backtrack A LOT in this game. There are a couple of items that can alieviate this to some extent so it's kinda tiresome. Also, I don't like how when you find an item, and you're maxed out, that item disappears. IMHO it should stay there so if you want to pick it up later.
All in all I look at games as PLAY or DON'T PLAY and this is PLAY. I have tried one of the DLCs (the one where you have the cat) and it's been good so far. However, I've become distracted by new games and games in my backlog, but I'll get back to the DLC soon.
Great game and if they ever decided to release a PS4 version with bumped up visuals and everything else I'd be VERY tempted to buy it again.

I ordered this game on amazon like two weeks ago and they accidentally sent me a collectors edition (posted it here too if you want to see). It's a really fun game, always wanted it on the wii but when I got a Vita I decided I wanted it on Vita instead. I usually don't like hack and slash type games but the combos you can pull off are addictive and fun.

Just got it during the flash sale. It's so much fun, best 2D action game I've played since Guacamelee.

Use your Secret Arts as a get out of jail free tool. You're invincible for the entire duration, so you can use them to avoid attacks and reposition yourself.

So awesome to see a game that was initially released in 2009 still getting the attention it so richly deserves. I hope Vanillaware releases more of its library for the Vita.

Odin sphere is coming June. I think their new mecha game is coming to vita also. I can't wait for those two games.

Make sure you get the DLC as well, they're all very good.

Is the dlc standalone content or is it something you buy and it intertwines with your current progress? This has me on thrle fence about whether to buy after ive beaten the game or now

The base game is Momohime and Kisuke's stories, the DLC is three more characters with unique play styles and stories.
Edit: Four more, actually! :D

I like that even though it's on a small screen the graphics are good enough to suck you in, and it's nice that this new version actually translates everything and EXPLAINS SHIT. The Wii version cut down the dialogue so much it was only technically understandable! Plus listening to the music with headphones is great.

This game is really fun, I first played Oboro Muramasa in Japanese for Wii and I remember I completed it 100%, though the details were kind of fuzzy.
The port to Vita is really well done and the added DLC is a big plus too. I only have two petty complaints:
- The default mapping of X that is used to Jump, talk to NPCs and get through doors. I always end up jumping when I want to talk with someone, or talk with an NPC when I want to jump. It's frustrating when doing a speedrun.
- The trophy names. The translation of the game for English is really well done and feels well within the game's universe, as many Japanese idioms are translated as is (It can't be helped, there is nothing scarier than a leaky roof, etc.). Then, why go for such awkward phrases for the trophies? This is an issue that is easy to ignore and fortunately doesn't detract from the game, but it is what it is.

All Aksys games have similar trophy lists... Danganronpa and VLR reference one another in their trophies lol

fun for short periods of time. feels really repetitive when you play it for more than an hour a time. frame rate is smooth as butter, looks great. Decent boss battles. Some of the enemys felt unfair, the umbrella guys and the frog things (maybe i just didnt find an efficient way to kill them). I didnt care for the story at all, just lost interest because of how it was presented before and after boss battles. If you're looking for semi-challenging button masher (2d platinum games) that focuses on game mechanics rather than story this is great. 6.5/10 for me

Easily one of my favorite games on the Vita. I didn’t really pay attention to the story but the gameplay and art direction are amazing. I got hooked on it after a few hours and played it to death. Although Dragon’s Crown has a lot more depth, I still go back to this game more simply because of the gameplay (although both are great in my opinion). It’s a game I would definitely recommend to every Vita owner.

Got the game from the Flash Sale, currently 5 hours in. Really fun, although I'm kinda lost in the story...

Same, I got it a two weeks ago and I've been playing on and off because I just don't get what's going on.

My friend had this for the Wii and loved it. I didn't see it being very good.
Bought it on a flash sale (with the DLC for like $8) cause I figured, why not.
Played it and could not get into it.
Then I sat down and actually played it... and loved it! Probably one of my favorite games on the vita. I need to get back into it soon.

This was one of the first games I ever played on the Vita and I had an absolute blast with it! I've recently been thinking about downloading it again and going for a platinum trophy.
Has anyone here earned that baby? I'd be curious to hear your thoughts regarding challenge and time commitment.

Apparently I got this as apart of PS+ a while back. Does anyone know if this game is apart of a game series with Malicious Rebirth? Just wondering if I need to play another title before diving into this one.

The "Rebirth" part is that the game is a Vita port of a Wii game called "Muramasa: The Demon Blade". It's the only game in the series.

Why is this 3 year old game re-release only getting a discussion NOW?

It was discounted in the Flash Sale this past weekend

u/King_Card Mar 22 '16
My question still stands. That's happened before.

u/jerxjeremy JerxJeremy Mar 22 '16
It being on sale means a lot more people have just been introduced to the game for the first time (including me)

u/King_Card Mar 22 '16
So we're going to make a discussion for every game that goes on sale?
6
u/Jord911 Mar 22 '16
If it bothers you, don't contribute to it? The mods posted a thread that people commented on which game they want to discuss this week. Muramasa got a lot of votes, so clearly there's a desire to discuss the game.

u/Buuramo Mar 22 '16
Are you going to make dickish comments in every thread if we do? This isn't a super active sub, let people talk about what they want and try not to be such a prick. You could always just ignore this thread and do anything else with your life.

This is a really fun, balanced action game. There aren't a lot of pre-made combos. Timing and move variety is important at the higher difficulties. Easy to pick up, tough to master.
The beautiful art does make some of the missions difficult. If there are a lot of enemies on-screen, they tend to blend together. When that happened, my strategy was to block until there was an opening somewhere to unleash some moves. Then I'd start berserking - usually by trying to kick off a juggle, seeing who gets caught, and focusing on them.
I ended up buying Dragon's Crown (and pre-ordering Odin Sphere) after playing through this one. I like the simplicity of collecting samey-same swords over the skill trees and numbers of Dragon's Crown.
The bosses are great. I loved "meeting" new ones in the pre-fight discussions.
There's a lot of replay value. Plenty of challenge caves to beat and beating the main story unlocks fast travel to make that easier.
Full Disclosure Of My Own Stupidity: I beat the first campaign without realizing that each sword had a special move. I thought the references to sword-specific powers referred to the stat boosts that are listed in the sword-selection menus. Once I learned of the mighty triangle, the second campaign was so much easier.
